I hear people from outside South Africa calls soweto a "slum", from what i knw is, slum is another word for "information settlement"mybe i dont understand the meaning of slum but soweto is not even close to be a slum because homeowners in soweto do have "title deed"( a document constituting evidence of a right , especially to ownership of property)for their houses. I know this because i am from soweto.

Well, it feeds into their misinformed narrative that all black South Africans live in slums while formal housing is only for white people.

What. That’s horrible. There never seems to be an end to ignorant people with racist remarks. I am from Canada and had two babies and they were delivered by a doctor from South Africa and he was a great doctor for me and my girls. And he worked hard. In the small community I was from he delivered all the babies esp the moms who were having complications. People that r racist need to stay home almost their own family and friends and leave the world alone

@IcksYikes
@IcksYikes 7 күн бұрын
You'll find that the majority are born in Soweto but most people in Soweto comes from rural areas/villages.......this is what he literally sad, listening is indeed a skill He would still be right if he said initially, nobody was born in Soweto/JHB because blacks indeed came from rural areas to work in the mines, as house girls & garden boys. Those who worked in the mines lived in small rooms built for them by mining companies, those rooms were within or close to the mines & they would always go back to the villages at the end of the month. The rise of township was a result of villagers coming to JHB & there are a lot of men who left their wives at the villages and re-married(we've seen such stories on Khumbulekhaya as well), some men also decided to never ruturn back home(rural areas/village). Some came to JHB, started a new life and JHB became their home & that's how we now have 3-4 generations who have been born in JHB but DON'T SAY THE MAN WAS TALKING RUBBISH BECAUSE HE WAS NOT.

@@IcksYikes Soweto started in 1932 and Alex in 1912 so many of us have grand parenst who were born in Johannesburg. Its always people who came to Joburg as adults who say no one was born in Joburg .Many people from Soweto no longer even have ties in rural areas because their families been in Joburg for generations now.
@IcksYikes
@IcksYikes 6 күн бұрын
@@dinaledi4085 1932 means we can safely say there is 3-4 generations that have been born there. Which is what I said. I am yet to hear anyone say no one was born in Jo'burg in this day and age. Just like the first guy you rubbished made it clear that most people came from the village, made Soweto their home thus we now have 3-4 generations being born in JHB

@IcksYikes my maternal grandparents died in 1966 &67 in Alexander. All their 6 children moved to Soweto when they married in the 60s and 70s. My aunt eldest in her family died 2019 aged 96 in Soweto. The rest is history. My grandparents had come from areas in Pretoria Selborne. I have cousins living in Soweto and their children and grandchildren.

Lol, many of us born and bred in townships, especially in Gauteng, have never even been to a village. Granted a few generations ago, our relatives came from there, but we aren't all born/raised/have current-day ties to villages.

Soweto, located in Johannesburg, South Africa, is predominantly inhabited by Black South Africans. The majority ethnic group within Soweto is the Zulu, followed by the Sotho-Tswana, including people from ethnic groups such as the Tswana, Pedi, and Sotho. Soweto is historically significant as a center of resistance against apartheid and remains one of the largest and most culturally rich townships in the country, with a population of around 1.3 million people. Next time find a native soweto tour guide 😊

Everytime when tourist visit south Africa 🇿🇦 they always hire some clueless tour guider from somewhere in Africa to show them around 😂 Wonde Maya is a very great example of that😂😔

If I may add ,not everyone who drives tourists is a South African,you might find that a person lives but is not a Sowetan,I think the first thing you must ask that person is are you South African,No DNA just RSA,not every black person is South African, South Africans are lighter in completion, and how they dress,that is a distinction and the accent is different and the knowledge about Soweto is different , don't be fooled,Sowetans have lived the experience, unlike those who read about us then want to tell us about us

I dislike your captions, feels offensive regardless......I think it is time for you or us to change the narrative and see our African townships as just good to live in than perfect.

I know this is a positive video but there's a lot of mis information here. Hector Peterson did not cause apartheid, he was one of the many students who were protesting against the apartheid government to not make Afrikaans the language of instruction in June 1976. It would've been nice if you had a south African tour guide as your driver knows nothing about our country seeing he doesn't know the difference between Soweto and Orlando. The white people didn't give black people to enjoy Soweto, people were forcefully removed from their homes and land. Gauteng or Johannesburg was land that was occupied mostly by northern Sotho people. Most black people were then relocated to bantu stands.
