I hear people from outside South Africa calls soweto a "slum", from what i knw is, slum is another word for "information settlement"mybe i dont understand the meaning of slum but soweto is not even close to be a slum because homeowners in soweto do have "title deed"( a document constituting evidence of a right , especially to ownership of property)for their houses. I know this because i am from soweto.

@IcksYikes3 ай бұрын
You'll find that the majority are born in Soweto but most people in Soweto comes from rural areas/villages.......this is what he literally sad, listening is indeed a skill He would still be right if he said initially, nobody was born in Soweto/JHB because blacks indeed came from rural areas to work in the mines, as house girls & garden boys. Those who worked in the mines lived in small rooms built for them by mining companies, those rooms were within or close to the mines & they would always go back to the villages at the end of the month. The rise of township was a result of villagers coming to JHB & there are a lot of men who left their wives at the villages and re-married(we've seen such stories on Khumbulekhaya as well), some men also decided to never ruturn back home(rural areas/village). Some came to JHB, started a new life and JHB became their home & that's how we now have 3-4 generations who have been born in JHB but DON'T SAY THE MAN WAS TALKING RUBBISH BECAUSE HE WAS NOT.
@dinaledi40853 ай бұрын

@@dinaledi4085 1932 means we can safely say there is 3-4 generations that have been born there. Which is what I said. I am yet to hear anyone say no one was born in Jo'burg in this day and age. Unforgettable. I felt safer walking the streets in the neighbourhoods there than I do in my own. No high walls, everyone is outside in their gardens chatting to their neighbours. It's a sense of community we don't get to experience in middle class neighbourhoods.

Soweto, located in Johannesburg, South Africa, is predominantly inhabited by Black South Africans. The majority ethnic group within Soweto is the Zulu, followed by the Sotho-Tswana, including people from ethnic groups such as the Tswana, Pedi, and Sotho. Soweto is historically significant as a center of resistance against apartheid and remains one of the largest and most culturally rich townships in the country, with a population of around 1.3 million people. I know this is a positive video but there's a lot of mis information here. Hector Peterson did not cause apartheid, he was one of the many students who were protesting against the apartheid government to not make Afrikaans the language of instruction in June 1976. It would've been nice if you had a south African tour guide as your driver knows nothing about our country seeing he doesn't know the difference between Soweto and Orlando. The white people didn't give black people to enjoy Soweto, people were forcefully removed from their homes and land. Gauteng or Johannesburg was land that was occupied mostly by northern Sotho people. Most black people were then relocated to bantu stands.
