Hi Fel! I discovered your vlogs this evening and I really enjoy watching them! I lived off and on for over ten years in China, mostly in Yunnan province. In hindsight, I wish I'd done some vlogging, because I had a very special countryside lifestyle with the indigenous Wa people and other ethnic minorities like the Lahu, Dai and Akha. Some Wa friends would often get asked by fellow countrymen which country they were from and they would drop the name of an African country and noone could tell they were joking! 😅 The Wa are sometimes called "中国的黑人", the Black people of China. They're indigenous to the Wa hills of southern Yunnan and Wa State in Myanmar. I recommend you to travel to a Wa autonomous prefecture like 西盟 or 沧源. It's easy to get to 西盟 by plane to 澜沧. I bet you would really love it there like I did. My experiences there are deeply embedded in my heart and soul. They have amazing jungle with large old trees, waterfalls you can bathe in, fresh water springs, great spicy food and beautiful mountain villages with huge banyan trees in them where they leave offerings for ancestral spirits. The Wa have a very warm, welcoming community. They have awesome, energetic folk dances and folk music that can make you feel like you traveled back to ancient times. They have some ancient customs preserved, like animist rituals led by local medicine men. It's especially fun to go to 西盟 during the Lunar New Year when they celebrate in the villages in the mountains with big communal feasts with dancing, drinking, barbecue and offerings to ancestral spirits. They're so welcoming to vistors from other countries and I think they'd be especially thrilled to meet Africans. I found that they are proud of their dark skin and will rejoice when babies are born especially dark-skinned, which is great since there's been an obsession with pale skin in China since ancient times, with people thinking it was the epitome of beauty. The Wa people are gorgeous, both the men and women. Do visit their communities if you get the chance! I know many locals and could give you some contacts through WeChat if you use that.
