I think when they attack out a bunch it to spread their troops thin and possibly connect together to make pathing easier. They know they have lost so make it easier by creating a path and only have 1s around so you dont loose too many troops pathing through

turn based stratedgy. it's a former board game. the computer makes dice rolls so much better. the board game can easily take 3 days.
