That is just one incredibly lucky owner that her car ended up on the receiving end of Baz’s expertise in the overhaul & repair of the dreaded 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine! Surely with that oil pump pickup so blocked, causing the oil pressure warning light to be permanently on, it would only have been a matter of a few more miles before the engine would have been total scrap! However because his vast experience led him to do the initial check for camshaft wear, which proved to be only very slight anyway, he was then able to go on to completely save the engine. Amazing job as always 😊.

Great video again. I'm an engineer and mechanic keeping classic and vintage motorcycles on the road. I'd hazard a guess that the only thing that saved this engine to get it to the point where Baz could sort it out is the quality of modern synthetic oils. Obviously the engine had been running with much reduced oil pressure for a while and as Baz points out, very poorly serviced. This was a superb save. It does hassle me that people are more and more treating cars as throwaway white goods. This video just goes to show the huge difference an intelligent technician/mechanic who understands the intricacies of what he's doing makes.

I agree, like you I love restoring engines and despair at peoples basic knowledge of what they need to check on a regular basis. However I see why, they are accustomed with modern cars to see warnings come up from sensors for oil, tyres, windscreen wash etc etc, not realising with some of these lights the damage is already done. This has only gotten worse with PCP/leasing where people treat cars as throwaway items, relying on the annual service even for tyre pressures and windscreen fluid. However even in the past things went wrong, a friend of mine (a good engineer) bought his daughter a car, a small mini. He showed her how to do the basic checks, but she obviously never listened carefully, I was with him when the phone call came. 'Dad, the engine oil light came on, so I filled it up through that hole you showed me, it took a lot, now there's oil everywhere?' that was a new engine needed.

Top work as usual. Funny I heard the brand Kamoka but never used it. I bought some Bosch filters for 1,5 euros each for one of the cars. Also like to change oil every 6 months or 5k Kms for the daily and and the 2-3k Kms for the fast road car. It is always funny to watch these neglected engines. I knew a case that didn't know you need to change oil, so the car stopped working at 60k Kms with no oil in the engine. (Lol)

The DV6 1.6 hdi as well as the 1.6tdci same engine i took all the turbo filters out as you said it killed them. I ran a 207 with the 90 bhp engine , after replacing the turbo on it for a year without the filter. Never had an issue if anything in Europe it became the norm to take the filters out, the diameter of the oil feed pipe was good enough to alloy small debris to go through without the filter.

@alanoliver535 The Ecoboost is just like the Rover K series, great engine with one fatal flaw. Drive either with mechanical sympathy and service them on time with the correct spec fluids and quality filters and they will last ages. Many manufacturers including VW and Honda are using wet belts in their engines it's a bad idea being adopted industry wide not just an ecoboost problem. Would I buy one yes but only if it was either brand new or had a full main dealer history.

Great vid Baz spot on mate the turbo feed gauze when I done my wet belt probs can't remember 🤣 I'm the one that snapped the starter motor bolt in the gearbox for the locking tool when I done it, but yea that turbo gauze I deleted that didn't put back in along with both the VVT pulleys gauzes as when there blocked they starved top of camshafts and VVT pulleys so they got deleted also, 100% agree with u Baz rather have dirty oil get to it then no oil exact same thing on DV6 PSA engines land rover, some subaru, VAG, Alfa Romeo quite a lot of manufacturers, a lot end up actually getting rid of it Alfra Romeo on one engine done a recall I believe or some update and they said get rid of it 🤷🏻‍♂️ and many others have so yea that's why I done that in the end I've seen loads of cars ran without them for like 80K+ miles and have been fine so I'll stick with that imo it's designed to fail so when u neglect a vehicle u get bitten in ur ass even more by destroying ur turbo 🤣 think about it no engine from late 90s early 00s really had this turbo gauze imo designed to fail love the vids Baz keep it up bro 👊🏻🫡😎

Cam belt, full service with every fluid, filter and plugs changed, new AC radiator and I now have a 50mg commute car for my 100 mile a day trip.

Looking at the general wear on this engine I reckon this car has probably been looked after quite well until the last owner got the keys and it was all downhill after that, poor unsuspecting woman bought it from someone who probably told her they'd lost the receipts for servicing etc. I reckon folk that don't service things don't look after things and it's generally best to steer clear of their cast offs. Would be interesting to see the contents of that Polish oil filter as the belt wasn't as bad as expected?
