The church looks like it can be saved.I think that’s a crime to demolish such a beautiful building.I suppose this is their way of building back better by destroying history. We send crazy amounts of money to all these other countries while everything is allowed to crumble around ourselves.I believe anything is possible if we had more people like you two.Thank you for at least saving whatever is possible.I hate hearing about these circumstances.

The surviving churches in my hometown looked much worse... even for decades... after the bombardment and firestorms at the end of WW2 and money and ressources were scarce in East Germany after the war. Just tent tower helmets or no helmet at all, just a flat wooden roof, windows bricked shut. It's a shame... 😟

I'm an atheist too, and I think it should be saved. I'll donate. Where I live (because of the bad weather, ocean, and constant high winds that hit 140km/h a few times a year) ,if a place makes it to about 100 years old it's considered a heritage site. The thought of them tearing down a building that's older and MUCH more beautiful literally turns my stomach.

I'm a sixteen-year-old architecture enthusiast, and this makes me want to scream and cry and bang my head against the wall! In 1801 there was an agreement signed between France and the Holy See. Via the French Revolution, France is owner of the Catholic Churches. 1905 the Concordat died. The French law of 9 December, 1905, on the Separation of Church and State, against which Pius X protested in his Allocution of 11 December, 1905, was based on the principle that the State of France should no longer recognize the Catholic Church, but only distinct associations cultuelles, i.e. associations formed in each parish for the purpose of worship "in accordance with the rules governing the organization of worship in general". In case of the non-formation of such associations destined to take over the property, real and personal, of the churches or fabriques (see ECCLESIASTICAL BUILDINGS; FABRICA ECCLESIÆ), this property was to be forever lost to the Church and to be turned over by decree to the charitable establishments of the respective communes. By the Encyclical "Gravissimo Officii", of 10 August, 1906, the pope forbade the formation of these associations cultuelles or associations for worship. Rome feared that they would furnish the State with a pretext for interfering with the internal life of the Church, and would offer to the laity a constant temptation to control the religious life of the parish. Thereupon, the State applied strictly the aforementioned law, considered the fabriques, i.e. the hitherto legally-recognized churches, as no longer existing, and, in the absence of associations cultuelles to take up their inheritance, gave over all their property to charitable establishments (établissements de bienfaisance). Exception was made for the church edifices actually used for worship; at the same time nothing was done concerning the numberless legal questions that arise apropos of these edifices, e.g. right of ownership, right of use, repairs, etc. At the present writing, therefore (end of 1908), the Church of France, stripped of all her property, is barely tolerated in her religious edifices, and has only a precarious enjoyment of them. On the other hand, since ecclesiastical authority has forbidden the only kind of corporations (associations cultuelles) which the State recognizes as authorized to collect funds for purposes of worship, the Church has no means of putting together in a legal and regular way such funds or capital as may be required for the ordinary needs of public worship. Thus the churches of France live from day to day; neither the parish nor the diocese can own any fund, however small, which the parish priest or the bishop is free to hand down to his successors; all this because the State stubbornly insists that only the above-described associations cultuelles (which it knows are impossible for French Catholics) shall be clothed with the right of ownership for purposes of worship. Though the present condition is necessarily a transitory one, it appears, unfortunately, to offer one permanent element, i.e. the certain loss of all the property once belonging to the fabriques. The worst enemies of the French clergy must admit that, in order to safeguard its principles, the Church which they accuse of avarice has sacrificed without hesitation all its temporal goods. (See CONCORDAT; FRANCE; ERCOLE CONSALVI; PIUS VII; NAPOLEON BONAPARTE.) Source: Home > Catholic Encyclopedia > C > The French Concordat of 1801 Basically the Churches are prevented from raising funds. with the exception of one prefect that has maintained the 1801 ruling - that is another lesson in history.

people really need to wake up FAST! the zionists want Christianity and the WHITE RACE ERADICATED! That's why "governments" have no problem to demolish churches! Here are just a few quotes from JEWISH scholars and rabbis: "...The goal is to meet the challenge of interracial marriage. It's not a choice. It's an obligation. If voluntarism does not work for the republic then the state will move in with more coercive measures..." (hence: they have SHIPPED-in millions of African muslims in Europe...) -NICOLAS SARKOZY, former president of France - "It is in the Jewish interest, it is in humanities interest that whites experience a genocide. Until white children are burned alive, white women raped, mutilated, murdered and all white men who have not been slaughtered watch powerlessly as their people are terrorized; only then will mankind be on a more equal footing, ready to discuss white privilege and the apparent chip on the shoulder that minorities have.” - ISHMAEL LEVITTS - "Our control Commissions will, in the interest of peace and wiping out our interracial tensions, forbid the whites to mate with white. The white woman must cohabit with members of the dark races, the white men with black women. Thus the white race will disappear, for mixing the dark with white means the end of the white man, and our most dangerous enemy will become only a memory. We shall embark upon an era of ten thousand years of peace and plenty, the Pax Judaica, and our race will rule undisputed over the world. Our superior intelligence will easily enable us to retain mastery over a world of dark people. “Goyim (non-Jews) were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world - only to serve the People of Israel. That is why gentiles were created.” “In Israel, death has no dominion over them… With gentiles, it will be like any person -they need to die, but [God] will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money.” “Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat” - RABBI RABINOVITCH - Budapest in 1952 “The Messiah will come only when Edom, Europe, Christianity, has totally fallen. So, I ask you, is it good news that Muslims are invading Europe? It's EXCELLENT news! It means the coming of the Messiah! Excellent news!” - RAV TOUITOUR - sermon November 20-2013 - “Whiteness is not a culture . . . Whiteness has nothing to do with culture and everything to do with social position . . . . Without the privileges attached to it, the white race would not exist, and the white skin would have no more social significance than big feet.” - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV - “Treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity. “ - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV - “The key to solving the social problems of our age is to abolish the white race. Until that task is accomplished, even partial reform will prove elusive, because white influence permeates every issue in U.S. society, whether domestic or foreign.” - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV - “If you are a white male, you don't deserve to live. You are a cancer, you're a disease, white males have never contributed anything positive to the world!" - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV - "The goal of abolishing the white race is on its face so desirable that some may find it hard to believe that it could incur any opposition other than from committed white supremacists... Keep bashing the dead white males, and the live ones, and the females too, until the social construct known as 'the white race' is destroyed - not 'deconstructed' but destroyed.” - Dr. NOEL IGNATIEV -

The loss of an historical building is heart-wrenching and the town’s people and mayor are probably devastated that a piece of their heritage will soon be gone. If the town was a tourist destination like the city of Paris is, the church would be saved. Hopefully the church has digitized all of the church records. Hopefully someone will create a plaque or marker on that site to show future generations where the church was situated. So kind of you Billy, to offer storage for items from the church, that are salvageable. I’m guessing that the building has been declared unsafe to enter, to salvage the altar items. Sad situation!

As someone already pointed out. Church and state are separate in France, the government will do nothing. Add to that the thousands of churches in France that are like this, they can't all be saved. The building is obviously not A listed, otherwise, they couldn't demolish it. If,it could be proved that there was something important happened there,it certainly could be stalled for historical investigations. Other than that, its gone. It is sad to see an old building go,but, its a reality of life these days. No one can afford the repairs, and it's unsafe. The reason it would have been closed in the first place would be lack of attendance. If there isn't a congregation, then Rome will close it down.

Hey Ryan/Billy, perhpas the mayor with your help could try to find a developer who wants to convert the church to housing. They’ve done this in The Netherlands a lot. This could safe it from destruction and it definitely bring more movement into town, good for economy too.👍

Its very sad but I do understand what the Mayor explained and his hands are tied. The history that comes with this church would be very interesting. The many peiple its saved, the weddings and funerals, baptisms etc. Plus I dare say some very interesting stories from the older locals of perhaps the part it played during wars and uprisings. Obviously it is placed at the top of a hill and on a prime piece of land, so if sold the town and locals may benefit from this eventually. Thank you for offering to store any artifacts that can be saved from this very sad event. 💕🇦🇺

Its sad but you can't pay millions to rebuild a church that nobody uses anymore, the money would be better spent on a community center for the people of the town and support for the older people and children who need help in rural France. To be frankly honest would you attend the church when it was rebuilt, like the convent it became too expensive to maintain, and at least the convent had a use as a hospital and would have a good reason to be saved.

If people can purchase some of the stone or other items and the money goes to the town maybe the Mayor can use the money to save another building?

The front half of the church is the most pleasing architecturally, and it looks to be the least damaged. Someone with a few million euros could tear down the rest and build a stone wall to enclose what was salvageable. I hope they consider your offer to store the interior fittings and decor. Perhaps, too, you might make an offer for items that would enhance the convent chapel. You have some blank spaces.

I am wondering if there might be some way to demolish the parts of the building that are as you say "nackered" and then build new walls to close the back of the remaining structure. I hope the you can at least help to save some of the contents, especially the windows. So sad about this. 🧡

Part of the problem as well is churches are just not doing well, people aren’t as involved in their churches , the congregations are so small the church itself can’t afford to maintain the buildings or even pay anyone to preach. One church in particular ……..no I won’t go there. It’s a sad thing that the beautiful historic buildings are just being torn down though, hopefully you can help salvage some of the interior. 🤞🙋🏼‍♀️

That is upsetting and sad. I hate seeing old historic buildings destroyed, especially churches. Once they’re gone, they can never be replaced. Unfortunately, it’s not a famous landmark like Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. Unless billionaires and large corporations support restoration efforts, the building is doomed. 😢

I think what you guys should consider is : You need to form a corporation and get investors that are sentimental to saving French history to assist you in purchasing and at least getting these structures (church, chateau) weatherized (roof, windows) for future renovations and saving. Think about it.

This church was built with love and craft to devotion in Jesus name to God. They refuse to restore it ,when it could be repaired to help house the homeless or used for the good of the community to whom it was always intended to serve. What do they intend to do with the land when the church is demolished at great cost to the community?

It would be worse to convert it to apartments. If the building can't be saved at least build a museum or a new church in its place with the same exterior appearance as the original.

There are plenty of folks in the world with money. People gave to repair and rebuild Notre Dame. France is losing its history and heritage quick. Just think of all the jobs this would generate? Laws need to change local government can't generate the funds. French government needs to take responsibility and repair the historic buildings! This is heartbreaking! The poor citizens and Mayor having to tear down the village Church! This happened to my grandmother's church in the USA. She was devastated. Thank you, for doing this video! We had no idea!

These churches are becoming redundant in large numbers across Europe. In a similar situation in Alkmaar, The Netherlands, the church was renovated to include single-persons apartments under the roof, and 2 stories of small shops inside, in a large gallery formation. The exterior is unchanged apart from roof windows (not dormers). Another, very large old church, was modernised to include underfloor heating, and is now a multifunctional venue - church, expo, trade shows, celebrations etc. Of course I don't know if this is financially viable in rural France, nor how many other local old churches are in a similar situation. But all countries must recognise the loss of heritage (and striking landmarks) when they destroy such places, religious or not.
