As someone stuck in a wheelchair cross draw carry is awesome. It's the only way to conceal comfortably on your person. Most wheelchair users carry off body because appendix is to uncomfortable and strong side is to hard to get to with a wheel and armrest in the way.

I have been carrying cross draw since forever. I learned from a Lieutenant on the Williamsburg Police Dept. It has many advantages. It is no harder to hide than a strong side holster. A shirt of some kind will do nicely. A Hawaiian shirt in the summer works well. They are generally not tucked in and are a bit large. Any shirt just a pinch on the large side will also do nicely the rest of the year. Next. If you are injured and really have to you can get your pistol with your weak hand you can. Try that with your strong side holster. You can discreetly have your pistol discreetly in your hand under your shirt ( you are not brandishing ) before anyone knows it is out of the holster. Go for you strong side holster gun and the neon sign on your chest flashes "going for gun, going for gun" You can have it out cross draw under your shirt and no one knows. Try getting a strong side gun out in a car or a restaurant booth quickly or discreetly. I can slide my dross draw out under the table very discreetly. In a car which way to probably want to point your gun?? If you want to protect your gun from getting snatched all you have to do is put your left arm over it and hold on to your belt. Your strong arm is now free to slug the miscreant. Virginia had a " restaurant ban" for years. You could not carry concealed on anywhere with an on premises liquor licence. I could put my left arm over the butt of my 1911 and walk into a nice restaurant with out frightening the patrons. So there are a LOT of advantages. when you think about it .On a personal note I like a cross draw holster that is a bit more verticle than yours so you do not flag quite as bad behind it also tucks the butt in closer.

Love me some cross draw. I often carry my 5 1/2" Colt single action cross draw in a Bob Mernickle holster, and even a hogleg like this hides away surprisingly well, if you wanted to conceal, which I don't usually. Here's a few reasons I like cross draw: 1 - It's super fast to draw when seated in my truck vs. strong side. 2 - It doesn't interfere with fastening my seatbelt. 3 - I can draw left handed if I need to, and can draw leftie on my Harley, with my right hand still on the throttle and fire left handed (granted, I rarely need to do that, but still). 4 - It looks cool!
@jakmarlin82338 ай бұрын
Cops used to carry cross draw back in the day. Especially plain clothes LEO's. It's very efficient drawing from a seated position like a car. Police got away from cross draw because in a scuffle, the bad guy could grab your gun easier. But as a civilian, we don't have that concern. I wish more holster makers offered a cross draw option.

Glad someone's putting videos out in support of cross draw. Back when I first did my CCW license, while I was waiting (way too long) for it to arrive, I was working through my tactics and "problems" with carrying so that once I could carry, I would be ready (beyond just the stupid little class I had to take for the license). I carried around my house (so pretty much all day since I work from home) and dry fired pretty much every carry position out there. I realized that at least for my body type, cross draw was the was the most concealable, comfortable, and I could carry a full size handgun with WML, red-dot and suppressor height sights, with essentially no printing. And even with the bit of printing I had, when I asked my cop buddy if he could spot it, he couldn't (and couldn't believe I managed to conceal a full sized semi in jeans and a light T-shirt). Granted, I do IWB, which makes the lighter clothing a bit easier to work with. Everyone I talked to said cross draw was unsafe, bad tactics, etc.; but I did daily dry fire and draw & move exercises on video (which I would then review to spot issues) to work through those issues until now I just naturally draw safely and efficiently. I took a force on force/simunition class a few years back, and at first the instructions thought I was nuts for cross drawing, but after watching for a few minutes realized I had it down pat more than most other people in the class who were carrying appendix or strong side (because I actually practiced). That's not to say they couldn't find ways to put me in situations where cross draw put me at a disadvantage (just like they put people doing appendix or strong side in situations that caused problems for them too)... There were certainly problems I hadn't previously considered I later had to work through. But even with fixing those problems the solution wasn't to change carry position, I just made adjustments to my EDC technique to give myself options if one of those situations came up.

@CJRoberts88128 ай бұрын
Hi Yankee. I just gave this video it's 1000th like.😃 I'd like to make a suggestion, if I could. When you draw crossdraw, instead of drawing and swinging towards your target, draw the gun to your center chest. This way, you can meet it with your off hand and push the gun straight towards the target. Even if you don't use the off hand for support, it still gives you a better presentation. When I draw from my strongside, (I carry open and strongside) I still bring the gun center chest first. If you practice this, then whichever type carry you use, the presentation is the same.

@@freddyfox5002 There was a time when they switched from on the belt, strong side, to the shoulder holster in, pretty much all branches. I think it started with aviators though. This was before body armor became a common thing like it is today. Plate carriers are worn by everyone now but even in the early 2000s this wasn't yet the case. Officers and those issued pistols used to have shoulder holsters and on the belt holsters available. I don't know how much of a choice you had but both were done. Fast forward to the modern plate carriers and a lot of guys chose to use a holster mounted to their Molle on the front in a sort of variation on the shoulder holster or cross draw by strapping it to their chest. Again I think this started with aviators but in vehicles of any sort, or just having lots of gear on your war belt or bottom of your vest, this allows much easier and reliable access. I've seen lots of SpecOps guys opt for this method too.

I have been cross draw carrying for close to four years now and definitely prefer it over strong side and especially over ISWB. Even if it is open carried people from behind can not grab it and shove you forward at the same time. But I will have to say at first the holster held the pistol tight, but over time the handgun can fall out if I bend over far enough, or take to running. So a retention strap would be a smart thing. Any way revolvers do not have the same issues that semi-autos have with the damn thing just begging to go off with the slightest of pressure on the trigger so it is inherently more safer cross draw than any semi-auto will ever be strong-side carry or any where else for that matter.

"It's [i.e., the objection to cross-draw] usually coming from the appendix-carry people." I think that this is a clear case of coincidental correlation - NOT causation. There's nothing inherently special or different in appendix carry that would cause those people to have any more problem with cross-draw than any other type of pistol-wearer might have. The probable reason for there being more appendix carriers objecting is simply because appendix is far & away the most popular - hence most common - way of carrying; hence the larger numbers of appendix-carriers objecting. Having said this, I'll probably switch to shoulder & cross-draw carries, as appendix is less comfortable when sitting, and when in combination with a "beer belly", lol.

I only carry guns with a hammer. my tactics are directly formed around the weapon I'm using and my physical ability and build. my cavalry twist draw isn't limited to revolvers, I carry an automatic. I'm no cowboy and I don't ride horses, to be clear.
