Loved your country and thanks for watching. The political arrangement left by the Spaniards supports the inequality... I call it the colonizational hangover it's in every Spanish....and English colony. Sucks but I think we will overcome it....in time.

this is what happened to us in Lima 13 years ago. We weren't in the city of Lima center, but some really poor area and we stayed for 2 nights . it was horrible. nobody came to meet us, the guy went MIA...his dog popped all over in common areas, and it was gated ...no tourists to be found...so scary! And we got scammed by cab driver. he told me one price before we got in and then later raised it.

And Mexican tortillas are different in taste, texture, thickness from Guatemalan tortillas, the common thing is that tortillas are made from corn…!! And Guatemalan tortillas are hand made, not machine made….!!!! And have to be eating fresh….!!!! People buy tortillas for each meal or 3 times or 2 times daily….!!!!!

I actually just got back a few days ago. They all live in very different areas of the city but they all love Cayala. They see it more as a place to go on a night out. Which is what we did. @@TheYarbros I mean I clicked on the link in your description…if that’s the dorm, yes. Still a good price! That’s usually how it goes…I don’t think I’ll have time for G City anyway…looks like I’ll do Antigua and lake Atitlan solamente…
@TheYarbros
@TheYarbros 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheresaofTheWorld Yup, that's how it works. Somethings wring though. I just clicked the link and it says $30 but no dates are available at all. This is a huge dormitory so I am assume some renovations are happening or something. Either way thanks for letting us know and we hope you enjoy your trip.

Cayala would not be on my list, too much of a ‘gated’ feel/fabricated playground/north Merida, nah. Don’t get me wrong, I occasionally splurge on gourmet chef meals (foodie here), but I like the usual working class feel/neighborhoods and centros where everyone meets,,,I need more people, local culture full of people from all walks of life, but I do ‘get it’. The homogenized-wealthy want something else-a homogenized community, it IS pretty, just weird to me.

You're 100% right in your suspicions about Cayalá. Ultimately it's a haven for the wealthy, designed to keep out the regular "riff-raff" out that in the mind of the rich, make up most of the rest of Guatemala. There are a lot of critics of Cayalá and the development premised on segregation that it represents.
