The more consolidated a company is the harder it is to approve and deploy new features. KZbin gaming is basically joined at the hip with KZbin, which is joined at the hip with Google Ads, which is joined to Google, which is under Alphabet. It'll never be as easy to add features for a KZbin Engineer as it is for Otto with an independent extension. I think Otto being independent is the best thing about the entire thing. He's probably getting paid on par with Google engineers anyways

I listen to this on Spotify at work to make Wednesday less shitty. And it always makes me laugh. The final five minutes when you were talking about in my opinion the golden age of speedrunning was a fun throwback. Since a lot of us don’t even look at speedrunning anymore. I remember watching Narcissa do that 18:10 live and everyone going off in chat. A long with classic Agdq 2013. It’s awesome hearing all of you guys were around for that. Also I loved Slime’s reference to YSG. The man was a legend. Thanks for reminding me of that time which is almost 10 years ago now. Also Aidan is 100% right about that melee video Narcissa released back then. I think it was around the time the original smash doc came out getting us all into melee.

serious answer to aidens thoughts around 4:40, I think the important thing is the scope at which they can conceive of the concept of happiness. Overall I think more people made it to a higher percentage of happiness, but the max happy you could be was much much lower. These days the ceiling for happiness is so much higher, so in comparison a life at 50% seems depressing, even though you are actually happier than the happiest of people back in the day. We tend to take for granted the simple joys of life because there is always more to be gained, whereas before it was much easier to enjoy what you had because it was all you had. While generally the "back in my day" arguments dont work for me, the appreciation for what you have is something that I think has been lost to some extent and I think we as a society would benefit from taking some time to appreciate things like friends, family, and hobbies a little more.

Dan Gilbert (former Harvard professor, got doctorate from Princeton, one of the most famous social psychologists alive) gave a presentation summarizing a lot of his studies on the human pursuit of happiness in the modern age, though I totally understand if you don't really subscribe to those beliefs (as some of them can seem a little outlandish in the context of a twenty minute video), but sorry if my original comment felt misleading or disingenuous.
