on the topic of john madden: he was a great coach for the raiders, but after he went into broadcasting he had a huge impact on how football is shown on TV. he came up with a ton of the innovations that football fans take for granted now. one of the biggest ones was probably the yellow line for the first down marker. before john madden, there was no indicator on TV that showed where the first down was. he also really set the standard for how TV commentators could breakdown and explain football in an entertaining and understandable way for a casual audience.
