I got told I had perthes when I was about 4 years old. My mum was constantly told I was a 'lazy child'. After changing my gp I finally had my diagnosis. The damage was so great that I eventually had a hip replacement when I was 18. I'm 25 now & the hip joint has come loose but I'm grateful I can still play & chase around after my daughter & I can still do the job I love ☺️

@amberelsley21063 жыл бұрын
Yes I still have pain. Especially in the colder months. Due to walking with a limp when I was smaller I get a lot of back problems too. Is this something you suffer with?

@@amberelsley2106 doctora couldnt diagnose about what my promlem was for two years and got operated twice when i was 10. I can walk and run like normal people but i cant wear my right shoe or cant cut my right nails. I cant reach my right foot. I have constraint movement on my right leg

@@4getful_boy have you been diagnosed with it now? I find that a good fitting, decent shoe helps my pain when walking & doing other activities. I can reach my feet etc perfectly fine now I've had the operation. Before surgery I wasn't much good to anyone & could barely walk most days.

I had this disease as an eight-year-old boy. I spent nine months in hospital on traction strapped to an abduction frame, which was like some medieval torture contraption! I then spent two years on calipers before making my recovery. I went on to become a long distance runner, completing my first half marathon aged just twelve. I'm fifty now, and my hip is beginning to hurt more and more, and I suspect arthritis, and a looming hip replacement. But hey, could be worse!!! Good informative video by the way.

Despite the medieval torture, it seems like you came out of it ok compared to some. I had no intervention. Early onset arthritis. Definitely no marathons for me. I'm $40 and very limited in physical activity due to pain. Refused hip replacement for any and all reasons they can think of. One being I'm still in child bearing years. As if I could cope with pregnancy with my hip in the state it is!

And how your hip doing right now? I had it at 6y.... hospitalized over a year in rehab. I am in a bad pain since 18y..... now 40 I can't handle the pain anymore . .... doctors keep saying I am too young for hip replacement...... they also saying the hip last 15-20 years. Were you without a pain after hip replacement? I mean sure the hip itself, but around that...... thank you

@@JP-rf7cu yes compared to the short leg and messed up joint and ball. It made quite a difference. Admittedly it's not in its prime condition now but still manageable I guess . but I did use the heck out of it also

A friend of mine's child has had the diagnosis. Perthes disease cause has no explanation. I have an hypothesis. The problem is blood supply to the head of femur bone, Blood vessels run through muscles (the ones acting on around the hip. Tight muscles often apply what I call: "the garden hose principle" tensions (even dehydration of the muscles (what we don't use, we lose!" crushing or pressing the blood vessels stopping completely or partly the blood supply to certain areas. Get bac to me if you read this. I'd be curious to hear what happens with your child. AND would be happy to help from a distance (for free). I am a massage therapist specializing in pain relief. I had perthese disease in both hips as a child and have gone on to have avasular necrosis in both hips at the age of 45 needed hip replacement in the right hip and now the left will need to be done. Would like to know if this was inevitable or could it have been prevented along with the severe osteoarthritis or is it just in my genes

I had legg calve perthies when I was a child. Now that I am a adult I found that I have post legg calve perthies but my medical doctor will do nothing to prove that I am WRONG. But everything that I can dig up on it it shows and tells me that I do have post legg calve perthies but the doctor will not listen to me or to an expert about the condition. So what I have learned that they think that you are CRAZY and that there is nothing wrong with your legs but that you are only weigh too much. So I guess that I still need to figure out a place to get the much needed hard proof to show my doctor that I have the condition and that it is NOT in my mind but that it is the TRUTH. If you have the disease as an adult FIGHT, a good FIGHT and teach your MEDICAL DOCTOR WRONG.
@MrWoof-ki3uo3 жыл бұрын
the disease is somewhat genetic, caused by mutations in COL21A. It's actually characterized by avascular necrosis to the femoral head, not the other way around. OA is very common with it, not much you could have done. Surprisingly, very little research has been done on the disease
