I should’ve gotten a f*cking settlement when I was falsely incarcerated after a faulty drug test. Instead I sat in jail for 43 days. They finally got the real results from the lab so they released me. I sat there for that long because one of the court staff screwed up the paperwork or some stupid shit. I couldn’t afford to take it to court but I DID deserve, at the very least, compensation for lost wages. I didn’t even get a damn apology. Innocent people DO go to jail ALL the time.

Lots of attonories will take your case regardless of whether you can afford it or not. Usually they only take a % if you win. Then again there are also those who want a retainer fee.

I suspect that GM verdict and damages were partly due to the fact that the case was basically a re-run of the Ford Pinto case 20 years earlier. Right down to the company thinking it was cheaper to pay settlements than to recall the cars! Ford did recall the Pinto; I don't think GM ever recalled the Malibu, though.
