@RedRumble14 Жыл бұрын
Damn bro, this touches my soul. I always wondered who are the people who organise such events, what’s their lifestyle is like, how they are temperamentally, how did they come up to such an idea. Also, is it considered a job and you are being paid?

Hey@@RedRumble14, thanks for your curiosity! Well there's two types of persons in that case haha most of my experience was as a volunteer in a group that we made with some friends simply because we wanted to do something in our town. We weren't paid at all, and actually the events cost us a lot of money. When we had bigger events (concerts and such) we basically walked all around town asking for contributions from big and small businesses, and you'd be surprised how many of them are willing to help when they realize it is for the community. Some gave us food, some gave us money, some their talent or maybe equipment that we needed for the event. But most of the money still came from our pockets. The other way you can organize this sort of event is when you work for a public or private institution that is willing to finance that. In that case, you are getting paid, yeah, but most of the time organizing said event is only a tiny part of the job you have to do to get paid. Afaik, you can actually get a job where 100% of the time you are organizing these types of events, but it's really rare, usually that means you either work for the government or for a very wealthy NGO, and that's pretty rare. Bottomline is anybody can organize an event if they want to, and you can even do it for very cheap (or free!) if you are willing to walk around and speak with people about your project and ask them for help. A lot of them will actually support you if what you're doing is something that aims to make people happy in your community.

I can’t wait for the flight attendants to get tons of gift cards after this
@JP-rh7eb Жыл бұрын
Also entitled people complaining when they do not get an upgrade after that.
@MikeA-pe2eo Жыл бұрын
It's pretty common that frequent fliers already give FAs small gifts such as Starbuck cards, chocolates, etc and they are greatly appreciated by the FAs. However, FAs don't have the authority to dish out upgrades, especially pre-flight, so I'd take that portion of this video with a grain of salt. The UA upgrade process is all automated now and the gate agents come back on board to upgrade already seated passengers. Also note that he was not originally sitting in a middle B seat as his ticket showed, likely a D aisle seat. How do I know? I'm a 2 million miler on United...
@ditokelio7860 Жыл бұрын
@@MikeA-pe2eoI understand everything you said and think you're right. Although I don't think he is showing an official upgrade, it would be the FAs letting someone sit in an upgraded seat because there was space(no one except the FAs and that one passenger would know). I work in hospitality and I do stuff like this(upgrading someone's room for example) for people I like, usually regulars. If I get grilled I just make up a reason like there was a problem with the seat or the guest was treated badly or had lots of problems so did it to keep them happy. Also, all 3 seats could have been empty when he got on so sat in the aisle seat to get their attention.
@esmeecampbell7396 Жыл бұрын
@@MikeA-pe2eoyeah the point is that it isn't an official upgrade but rather because there's an empty unsold seat in business class somewhere. While you can't GUARANTEE it will work if you hand over a card, they can't GUARANTEE you haven't already spent everything on the gift card...thus the "unethical" part. Now I'm someone who doesn't fly, so I'm interested in your opinion, as a self confessed frequent flyer, why the flight attendant cares enough to bother upgrading someone to that empty seat, rather than just having it be empty or giving it to someone else they like the look of... 🤷 It seems to me like more effort than it is worth for a nebulous gift card that may or may not have money on. It's not like there's only a few planes flying around and they'll probably meet you again thus making it worth striking up a "business arrangement" surely? And if this does commonly work, then it makes you wonder what else they might do for gift cards 😂🥴

From my perspective, I don't see how that first action is unethical. You gave them gift certificates without asking for anything in return. They freely gave you an upgrade. I suppose an argument could be made that your motive was not virtuous. But calling it unethical is a bit of a stretch.

I actually did this "life hack" for many years already when traveling. Always buy them a big bag of sweets, gift cards or whatever. From my experience as a luxury hotel worker, whenever you try to make an entrance on normally paid for stuff such as breakfast, spa, massages etc. They will catch you in the act if there is enough staff that day. I'm assuming for the first hotel you went to and inevitably failed to enter the pool of, the spa probably was an extra even for guests (meaning they would normally have to pay for as well). The paper you had signed there was stating that your credit card left at the reception would be charged for using the spa. So technically, you could have gotten someone in trouble if there was such a hotel room exact to what you wrote. As a bonus, you might have been in legal trouble of theft if you were to actually go on and enter the pool.
