I may have posted the same comment before, but I always liked the way the bassline from Part 5 went all the way through Part 6 and then segued into Part 7. It must have been nerve-wracking performing it at the time because I sounds like a single take.

As a kid I just let myself float on the audio landscape that Jarre created with Equinoxe. Almost 50 years later I'm still hearing new nuances and my awe for the many intricacies keeps growing. As you said, at the time there were no DAWs were one could easily correct mistakes or tweak things after the fact.

OK, this is good, this is nice. This i like. Equinox is my most favorit JMJ music. And, when I am in the right conditions, part 7 puts me in a trance. (And when I'm not, the whole album almost puts me in the right condition... I think about it, I should listen to it all on repeat. Except for part 8 which is very good, but it's more about re-emerging).

This is genuinely moving - a near perfect recreation that beautifully balances the mechanics of electronic rhythm with the nuances of human performance that have always been a huge part of Jarre's attraction for me. With those delicate grace notes and the cheeky bridge notes you've absolutely nailed that feeling of the humanised machine... or the mechanised human - never quite sure which way around it is! I've heard many recreations of this track and they always lack those subtleties, so it's wonderful to hear them properly delivered here. Bravo sir - and mange tak!

Bravo :) I'm a huge Jarre fan and this middle eastern style bass note sequence has always fascinated me, just goes to highlight how much a simple repetitive pattern can be manipulated with glides etc. I also love the middle bold bass note section from Oxygene Pt.1, the way those notes are played as part of that dark crescendo, the ARP-2600 was definitely Jarre's secret weapon and forms a lot of the Equinoxe sound and effects. Speaking about Equinoxe, I have always wanted to find the exact notes being played on Pt.2 (my fav section) can't find the sheet music online and the one demo video I found was hard to decipher, I bet you know :) ?
@thhedk
@thhedk 2 жыл бұрын
Hi thank you ;) I agree, ARP2600 really made Equnoxe! But all the effects is from EMS VCS 3 or EMS Synthi Part 2 is SO complex and strange but still beautiful. It's really hard to say what genre it is, it's just so strange :D I have tried of cause, but it's really hard to keep the real tempo to the "beat" of the SmallStone Phaser and I think he used both keyboards on the Eminent to double octaves sometimes, så it's super difficult. Also the chords in the last part is very hard to hear and decipher because of the opera sound - I'd like to turn the voice of that lady down! :D

Checking this out again as I managed to do something almost exactly the same in the new Vital synth. It doesn't have a built-in arpeggiator so I did this all via 2 custom-drawn LFOs pairs (one modulates pitch, the other one amplitude and filter) and it actually was the key (sic) to achieving this effect as MOST arpeggiators that you can find in synths will not retrigger the note in the middle of the step when you press a different key, thus making the trills and not-so-quantized key changes that give the original that feel impossible. With LFOs it's obviously much harder to program but works like a charm. I remember discussing this with S. Gervais (he complained about the arp issue described above) while he was doing the Electronica Tour with JMJ.
