People should realize 3 things: - Brazilians come from football stadium culture , if you ever seen a football match , you’ll understand me - It’s a rare event , for a Brazilian to win a gold medal , and we were hosting the olympics - French athlete celebrated like he had already won, he even went to the crowd and hugged some people.. That is beyond disrespectful and Brazilians hate viscerally any demonstration of arrogance

I'm seeing a lot of non-Brazilians / Latin Americans saying that the audience was being disrespectful towards the other athlete. I imagine that none of you have ever witnessed any sporting event in Brazil of any kind, football, volleyball, basketball, judo. The audience feels like part of the show, they cry when the athlete loses and they celebrate if he wins and they scream the whole game winning or losing and it’s like that in practically all of Latin America. If the other athlete feels unfocused with cheering, it's his problem.

No, Brazil does not have the worst crowd, because practically ALL the athletes loved it, it was support for ALL who were competing, it happens that like any other fan you will make a small pressure for the opponent not to win. Tiago had never jumped so high and GOT. He deserved it. He won the medal because he deserved it. Someone has to lose, the next one knows if Tiago does not win again because he deserves it. So shut up, the Brazilian audience is one of the better not the best.
