The idea behind the project is to collaborate online to record these covers.
Although some good friends of mine form the core of the project, the band won't necessarily be the same for every song. We will have guests from around the world participating, mostly on vocals though, at our discretion.
How does it work?
Each guy in the band records their parts (audio tracks and video) at home or at a local studio and sends them to me.
I then put the audio together and mix it. This has been a great exercise for me (mixing). I learn the concept behind the sound of my favorite albums and try a whole bunch of cool techniques attempting to replicate it closely.
I AB my mix with the original song but don't get too crazy about it. It's difficult to get the sound exactly right due to a number of variables. When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there.
When the final stereo audio track is done I take it to a video editing software and sync everyone's videos to it. After a bit of editing and level/color correction it's ready for KZbin. :)

We all learned our parts by ear. That's the only way we're able to release it this fast. Paulinho actually recorded his drum parts less than 24h after the original song was out, since drums are the foundation for all others to record over. What takes longer is actually mixing, editing, post-production. Just playing the song 1-2 days would be enough, but instead we needed 8 for the whole thing, especially since life gets in the way. :) Thanks!

James LaBrie is around 50 years old having had two serious vocal chord injuries. He's lucky to be even able to sing at all. From 1987-1994 there was no one more raw and out loud in the world. He was the best in metal for a time. DT are a new entity these days and so is James.
