Thicken That New Lawn // How to Fix Bare Spots in Your Lawn

3 weeks into the newly seeded lawn, and we are creating some awesome tartan stripes. However, there are a few bare spots which is more than likely from wash, so this evening we are looking to over seed the areas in order to fill the gaps and make the lawn look amazing from summer. This process can be used for urine burns, fert burns, or any gaps you may have in the lawn

I personally think that your lawns are looking great. I was laughing when you kinda went the wrong way with your cut and then rectified it on the new lawn. I do this often. Love the big dog just lying watching his dad working away, he is a beauty. Keep up the great work big man.

Looking good dude. I did my renovation this weekend. ( just seen your neighbours short and commented. ) I put a bit more on than last year. 65g/m2. Weighed out and several passes. On low. My gate on the spreader stuck open at first so it dumped a heap on the ground. But blow that around. I was surprised however to notice that I have a few high and low spots. That have arrived from last year. Putting that down to excessive rain. I’ll lawn sand them out when I have established plants. Thanks for the content dude. Looking great mate, and you defo did the right thing putting more seed down on the bare areas. Even if the dwarf rye is that c.s.i type, they say it can take up to 18months before it starts to creep. The new seed will soon shoot up in a week with this weather and plenty of water.

Great video mate - am defo getting a webb. Am fighting a losing battle on the biggest of my 3 lawns (15m x 10m approx) with dam crabgrass - am thinking it would be much easier starting from complete scratch i.e. re-seed whole lawn after digging out all weed?

Looking great. About as far along as my fescue / bent lawn. It's strange as bent only took 5 days to germinate but everywhere states 14-28 days .

That's good for bent. I was looking at bent for this lawn but I felt it would take a bit too much managing and won't be as vibrant a colour as the rye

@@TheReelMowingMowingClub How many times a day will you water the lawn now you have overseeded it? I'm never sure how to water. I usually do it 2-3 times a day depending on how fast it dries out and do a deeper watering every 2-3 days in the morning until the grass is at least an inch in height.

@@stevenbelcher5658 I'm watering in the morning and evening just to moisten the seed. It will probably take a bit longer to germinate this way, but not wanting to soak the whole lawn, as I want the roots to go deep.

I'm doing 3 before the next mow the make sure it sticks and doesnt get sucked up in the mower. not all is covered as I only covered to very thin areas. I did another overseed of the other back lawn on the weekend in my experiment to exchange grass species. I'm thinking of using the reel mower without the grass box off so the tips cover the seeds as a cheap alternative to compost over the entire lawn. I'm not sure if thats a good idea but its worth a go.

Thank you. I will be cutting again today, just with the reel mower as a rotary could lift the new seed. I saw a bloke on my estate a few months ago put some seed or fert down on his lawn then go over with his rotary 🤦🤦

Cheers! I put some fert down last week I think, so that will be in the rootzone for the new grass to take up when ready. As its good stuff and not 4 in 1 weed and feed it will be ok. I'll be mowing today (2 days since putting new seed down) but with the reel to make sure I don't pull up and seed

Which sprinklers do you use? You seem to get good coverage with them. Is there more than one and do you use some form of splitter so they work off one hose?

I used ICL Greensmaster Prolite Invigorator granular in the early spring, and the liquid I use ICL Greensmaster Liquid CalMag 9-0-0+13Cao +3MgO, which will boost the leaf growth and improve the colour. @@willo300 Hi, they're a great little firm and sorted me out lots. Make sure to use the discount code! I'm using about 2ml /m2 application rate I think. So on the side lawn with is about 160m2, I use 320ml of fert in 5 ltrs of water ish.
