Again great video, this is really gonna help with my projects. Like always very informative and perfect for people like me who can't afford to buy expensive power tools to get a piece of timber flat and square. Looking forward to the next one.

Love your videos, always clear and well explained. Great you show it isn't always perfect first time and show how to correct it.

A great tip I learned from Tom Fidgen: after scoring the line with the marking gauge, draw pencil lines from the gauge line to the edge of the board, every inch or so apart. That way, when you're planing to the gauge line, it's extremely easy to see the distance between the surface and the gauge line by looking at the vertical pencil lines. Makes the job so much easier.

Great to hear some explaination of what you are doing as you are planning. I bet there are lots more little things going on that you don't even realize, but have become such a part of you that you don't think to mention them. I just wonder if you pulled out the "horses bedroom" line on the fly or if you had that one in the queue, looking for the right place for it.

I've seen a (well respected) violin luthier split a block of wood, square the sides and with nothing more than gravity to hold them together, glued them up to make the top of a violin.
