To all you people arguing about the origins of parang. Trinidad's version, which is what is relevant here, is distinctly Venezuelan in its roots. You don't have to delve too deeply into Trinidad's history with Venezuela, or their proximity to each other, to understand why this is the case. To "Iayam", I have talked to many, many people from Spain and Cuba, and they know nothing of parang, or la parranda, so I'd like to know where you got your information. Interestingly, my friend, Juliette, who is Jamaican, says they have parang there, so how Cubans don't know this music is beyond me. Juliette also says that she thinks parang was brought to her country by Trinidadians. I don't know if that's accurate, though.

I know some of these people in this video. Please look up the history of parang people, before yuh start talking about it. Nowadays yuh could just Google Trinidad parang music. I remember when I was a little girl at Christmastime in Morvant going around to people houses & those were the good days. ANYWAY, Parang is a popular folk music originating from Trinidad and Tobago, it was brought to Trinidad by Venezuelan migrants who were primarily of Amerindian and African heritage, something which is strongly reflected in the music itself. The word is derived from two Spanish words: parranda, meaning "a spree or fête", and parar meaning "to stop".
