i think its amazing how they balanced them for the story: usually the bottom of the barrel are ''the low'', the weak and the filth and lame, but in this case, the fact they are not ''pure blooded'' or at least ''thick blooded'' and dont have all the vampire powers makes them stronger in other ways: they are weak for vampires but powerfull for humans, they are not held back as much as the purer races and are able to better continue with their human lives and the best at keeping the masquerade. Its a relation of love/hate in my opinion cuz you want (lorewise) the ability to be special and not have weaknesses of a half-breed and the other hand, you want the power and the thrive of a pure blood. In Bloodlines, wether you have one or the other ends up as a preference of your personality and properly dictates a stand for a portagonist

A smart ventrue would keep thinbloods close in their circle, having a network that can roam about in daylight with higher powers than ghouls seems like a great asset to have.

Actually, Ghouls can learn any of the Disciplines just like proper vampires, if you bother to train them properly. The main problem is that many vampires regard Ghouls as mere servants, and choose not to expend such effort. It would be quite the surprise for anybody who walks up to a Ghoul, thinking they'll be an easy take down, only for them to bust out Obtenebration, or Dominate, or Protean!

@@Nyrufa ghouls are limited in the level of disciplines they can learn, thEy can in most cases learn the 1st dot if they have the blood and training. To get a 2nd or higher dot (in v20 at least, v5 just has them capped at 1) they need the blood of a lower gen vampire (depending on the rules used, either 8th or 10th to get the second dot)

Ghouls have the capacity to learn more disciplines and expand their powers, but it's considerably more expensive for them to do so, as they are not true vampires. Also, like I said, most vampires don't bother expending the effort to teach them, as they view Ghouls as mere servants and cannon fodder.

This whole thinblood thing raises(/raised) an interesting philosophical question (in the context of VtM). Are thinbloods actually the end of vampires because of their blood "weakness", or are they the next step in vampire evolution and are actually much stronger because of their human phenotype and number? ps. I like to think duskborn are how the first Tremere may have happened- their alchemy is somewhat reminiscent of blood sorcery, but then again I don’t know all the lore. At the same time, Tremere can’t seem to ghoul or bind anyone either….

Yes, they say you wouldn’t be strong enough to finish the game without the power of a full vampire. My guess is that you diablerize another vampire to raise your generation artificially, and whom you choose to diablerize determines what clan you become.

Not exactly. The thin-bloods in the game are stronger than in the book, but so is everyone else. A thinblood will only ever learn one unique discipline, and even if they had their alchemy it still wouldn't bring them the same power as a proper clan Kindred. The actual proper vampires may be less human, but their powers and strengths are also much stronger

Thin Blood Alchemy on level 5 allows you to get powers of other disciplines on level 4. You still need ingredients for that though. So, the most powerful thin blood is still less powerful than a highly leveled vampire. It's the lifelike stuff that matters though, after few decades of unlife you start missing the simple pleasures.

I was thinking that maybe there's another way for our Bloodlines 2 character to be able to join a clan and become a fully fledged vampire without having to diablerize someone: Maybe our character will think he/she is a thinblood while instead being a high-gen, non-thinblood, caitiff. The World of Darkness is full of caitiffs that hang with the thinbloods, like them not knowing what they are, abandoned or shunned by their sire, their true powers yet to manifest. This will also avoid all the problems that usually come with diablerie: Like having every camarilla vampire you will ever meet in the next century look at you like the antichrist (possibly wanting to destroy you). Or having to share your body with the soul of the diablerized vampire (likely an older, wiser and more powerful vampire than you, probably not so pleased by your action) with the fear than one day it might take over your own mind and body, replacing yourself from within.

A pity V5 didnt go with "Inception", or rather, the previous legacy ability that some vampires had; "Inceptors", the ability to create disciplines from concept alone. IIRC, this was the most basic but also a true mirror of *The Final Path - The Path of Blood* which allowed Caine the ability to create any effect he desired, essentially rendering all the other, more specific disciplines moot, once the path was mastered. Thin-Bloods were referenced as having a natural affinity for this "inception" capability, with lower-generation Caitiff coming in as a close-second.

When asked if we could play as a thin-blood for the whole game they said something like "you won't be able to survive as merely a thin-blood", right? That kinda implies the choice to diablerize a clan vampire to take their clan's bloody birthright is not a choice of if, but which one. I think it would have been interesting from not only a gameplay perspective (as a hard mode), roleplaying perspective (as a vampire who wouldn't ethically stoop to murder and cannibalism) and story perspective (as a thin-blood who actually took on the night with their own blood alone) to stay a thin-blood and not diablerize another kindred.

Who knows, maybe they will allow us to skip that, or you can always do a challange run using cheats or something. Vampire is a universe where enough bullets will kill even a vampire, and they don't have to be silver. So technically, a thinblood has as big a chance of survival as a hunter without true faith, which is decent.

I would love to be able to remain a thin blood but in the same time making the game harder by choice, kinda like in Dishonored 2 where you could refuse the gift of the outsider. But maybe making you chose a clan they make the choice more important.

How can you become a clan member as a Thin-blood? The only possible way is through "diablerie" and that is one of the few things that are punishable by death. I think they'll be opening the clan choices at the start of the game, otherwise, if they do put "diablerie' as part of the story, then they have to do it by introducing a Blood Hunt in the story, the player choose what clan the vampire they'll be hunting is, and then they will be able to diablerize said vampire, without the kindred community turning them away. Since the only case where diablerie is not frowned upon is when killing a target of a Blood Hunt, they use it as a reward for Thin-bloods who wants to belong in a clan.. and even if so, if the target of diablerie is not really of a significant lower generation, then as a Thin-blood transformed to whatever clan you choose, you will only be 13th or 12th generation. That's weak sauce.

@@pepethefrog6809 That's what they are going to do. The prince is going to call a blood hunt for the vampires who massed embraced and have the Thin-Bloods be foot soldiers. For the Prince, this is the best position to have. For the Prince, worst case, the thin-bloods die and he can just have "real" vampires deal with the blood hunt without having to dirty his hands killing the Thin-Bloods. Best Case, the Thin-Bloods get their sires and diablerie them. For the Prince, this completes the Blood Hunt and has the Player Character's Thin-Blood owe him a favor for letting them become a full vampire.

Thin Bloods are a cool roleplay concept that is still weak on the technicals. The numerous social disadvantages are only offset by being able to play a little during the day...in a mostly forever night social dynamics game. There's the alchemy...which gives you a lower dot version of an established discipline, temporarily. But here's the thing. They're supposed to suck. It's about underdog appeal. It's the same reason Anarchs are a big thing now. WW is betting big on the allure of being an anti-system punk. It'll be interesting to see how many players actually opt for that experience over the dark power fantasy of the Camarilla and Sabbat clans. I do wish Bloodlines 2 included a challenge mode where you stayed Thin Blood. Warn the player it's tough,but let them risk it,if they dare.

No one who paid money for crazy is gonna complain.

Concerning Thin-Blood groups wasn't there some mention in V3(The version of VtM I played) of a Thin-Blood group that acted as vigilantes and basically satisfy the hunger by feeding on human criminals including corrupt politicians/businessmen along with protecting innocent humans from supernatural threats as well. I could be mistaking since I haven't played VtM in a long while.

Regular vamps: clan restricted powers, cannot walk in sunlight.. cannot repeoduce even by accident. Thinbloods: if i mix my blood with, some hair and the blood of a really pissed Off roid raged person, my blood becomes an explosive.. also i have been hooking up with randos for 50 years and i had a kid.. also i can mix a potion and change my sex at will.. or to walk in sunlight Seriously tho, thinbloods have the most potential because of their humanity since they can change the concetration of their vitae and adopt other disciplines into it.. they are like blank slate vampires. And yeah, lets not forget they can wake up elders from torpor.

I know there was some displeasure with the decision to start as a Thin-Blood but I think the idea is really cool so long as the transition to Full Blooded Vamp makes sense (Come on Diablerie). I would enjoy being able to use disciplines from other clans like single-use spell-component requiring abilities. Mixing together some rare and odd combination of ingredients to be able to mimic other clans. Stuff like mixing an intact wolf's eye, a sprig of rosemary and blood with an angry resonance to gain a brief animilism transformation, or a bit of organic diamond, some of your own blood and blood from a tired person to gain a few seconds of kineticism's absorption and exertion of kinetic energy. The process of finding these recipes would probably be a combination of trial and error and the cookbooks of other thin-bloods.

I kind of like it. You start out as a thin blood, can dabble in all the different powers and choose your preferred specialization (clan) based on the experiences you made during play. Actually, I think I love it.

I've read into a core book a bit and I'd really love to play as an outgoing Thinblood. Just see him as a great asset to the coterie with his ability to walk in the sun and bend light as he developed a unique formula to do it. The coterie an asset for him as they are his unliving shield against other agressive Kindred and his Sire.

It would be interesting if there was a shock twist ending, or a DLC, which opens the possibility of sacrificing your abilities to become a human again. Then have to face a final boss using your weak stats, relying on running around non stop and shooting a gun.

over all i am not that familiar with v5 and much of that stuff sounds weird to me, but apparently one of the rule changes is that bloodbond "cooldown" is a year instead of a lunar month? as far as i remember, 3 times in 3 different nights (or days i guess) until the moon does a full cycle from the first time and then a bloodbond is forged and lasts as long as both sides see each other regularily, and if they dont it goes dormant but can be re established if contacts is reestablished, even without blood

According to the website you are a thinblood the whole game and get access to 3 of the 5 original powers from whichever clan you choose to side with. Meaning you're still a thin blood no matter what, and just get training. There are 2 powers from each clan in VTM 1 that are missing.

Well... maybe not the best vampires, but still better than being human. Heck, I guess it would be almost perfect for me: if I were to feel ok, and be healthy, I think I could make enough money to buy enough blood, carefully 'hunt' from time to time... And yeah, higher vampires might look at me like I'm trash, but I can easily live with that... If I can enjoy everything, and there are pretty much no downsides (over being human) hell yeah!

Thin-Blood in VtMB2 can also be considered as a deep tutorial. Unlike that long survey in VtMB1 where maybe we played a clan that sounded interesting but very fucked up for someone new. I did not know anything about WoD, the game chose me nosferatus and I did not understand what happened, nor how to use the points, it was too difficult for me and I I gave up. Another day I went back and tried another clan and I loved it xD.

Yeah, ever since learning more about how Thinbloods work in the updated setting (and playing your game!), I figured that the ideal vampire state would be a Thinblood made in a place where there aren't a lot of other vampires. You may be at the bottom of the heap, but the heap is not very big, you have a good number of vampire advantages without many of the familiar drawbacks, and you have the chance to both become a full-blooded vampire or go back to being human if you're willing to hunt down that sire of yours. Especially if you have the power to throw bats at people (I may have already decided on what my Thin-Blood discipline is going to be in Bloodlines 2 XD). Thanks for all the information -- being someone who was into VtM as a kid, and thus before V20 and V5, I'm kind of relying on you to help bring me up to date on stuff!

what if, its two different characters? I had this idea. There is a rumor going around that you get to customize your character twice. Once at the beginning as a Thin Blood, and then again to choose your clan. What if playing as a Thin Blood is just the beginning? Then we basically start a new character in a clan to continue the story. Kind of like how in AC 3 you play as Haythem for the first couple hours, then switch to Conner.

From what I understand based on reading early preview material from PC Gamer Magazine and Polygon but at the start of the game when you are a thin-blood you pick your Discipline but you can only chose one. So rather than getting three Disciplines you have the potential to know all three but you have to chose one. This is why they have such an emphasis on having abilities that are useful in combat, exploration, and manipulating the environment. There is currently no word yet on whether your thin-blood Discipline stays with you when you advance to full Clan status but I would hope so otherwise it sucks to invest experience in powers you're going to lose anyway.

Before V5 thinbloods was a lesser form of vampire because they was so removed from Kain, but but but they were also removed from any clan curse and more touched by their humanity and less the beast. What they are in V5 I can't really recognize.

I love PnP lore but in a videogame it is not an exaggeration to give so much power to a Thin-blood in the same way that in the first game it was not an exaggeration to give so much power to a Neonate. (VtMB1 Spoiler) Of course they "fixed" it by saying that the Dark Father was involved and that our generation was impressive, but that "fix" can also be used in VtMB2. For example, hypothesis: We are the puppet of the Dark Mother and in reality we are not a Thin-Blood but an 9th generation Caitiff. It is as farfetched as it was in VtMB1 but it is a video game and should focus on entertainment.

But yes, with that explanation I do see how they are useful for narrative purposes. One of the tricky things about embrace is that there is no natural way in world to allow the player to choose his clan. Sire chooses children, not the opposite. Giving the player a "paid internship" in vampiric society thin blood solves it. Same could be done by making the PC a ghoul, but there is more corners to negotiate in that direction.

Around 12:40, the talk about thin-bloods becoming vampires by diablerie. I've read somewherer that strong vampires who commit diablerie on another vampires of higher generations(weaker) there might be a chance that they gain a generation themselves as a result, i think? It has been a while i've read this stuff. Care to confirm? If i said something right, what happens when lower gen vampires practice diablerie on thin bloods, maybe lots of thin bloods?

That's what I thought and I roleplayed my last vampire this way, losing his gens out of jealousy towards Thin-Bloods and their human-like "powers", diablerizing them on the go. Turned out I was wrong in the middle of the campaign when we read the v5 book more carefully. I think it should be only logical, but no, there's apparently no way to heighten your generation.

@@morphmeneses the only way to become human again is a legendary tale of Golconda. V5 book doesn't confirm it mechanically, but once you learn secrets of Golconda you're able to walk under the sun again and even soothe your hunger partially, but it doesn't last and is incredibly hard to get. If diablerie fails, victim vampire takes over the new body, but their generation stays the same.

Hey Outstar, I recently started following your VtM content and it's super cool to see a true fan create very informative content and keep up the hype. My only recommendation for future videos, however, especially the Clan reveals, is if you can also reference V20, especially in terms of history and Lore. While I like V5 as an edition it was incredibly sparse and in some ways even superficial when it came to actual lore, and newer fans are not interested in reading up on the very deep lore of V20. They think V5 rewrites everything. It would be nice if you could also mention V20 metaplot or clan history, even bloodlines where relevant, to the newer fans as you dive into the Clan analysis.

Yes, If irc one of the possible Gehennas (end scenarios) for the Vampire franchise is a "Not with a bang, But a whimper" type affair, Where all the ancient super-powerful vamps have been harried and killed by huge packs of thinbloods that don't have the ability to procreate.
