Nick, as much as I like and admire Gary as a guitarist, in my opinion, my favourite line up was Phil, Brian, Scott & Robbo (Brian Robertson) they rocked. My favourite concert to watch / listen to, is One night in Dublin (A tribute to Phil Lynott) Gary & Brian headline the concert but past members of Lizzy perform most of their hit's.

I'm pretty sure I heard that For Those Who Love To Live was written with George Best in mind. (Legendary Belfast soccer player dazzled crowds with his playing, Man Utd football star, and legendary party animal, womaniser.) There's a great story about when his fame and partying was overtakng his soccer prowess and a lad was delivering room service, brought champagne to George's room where he was in bed with Miss World, wads of notes everywhere, the guy, a soccer fan, delivered the champagne and sadly shook his head, "George, where did it all go wrong?".

Nick ck out Phil Lynott - Can't Get Away. this was 2 months before he passed. Phil was working with his good friend Huey Lewis and Johnny Colla. Phil's vocals for most part in higher register than he normally sings. its a beautiful song and if Phil would have lived and released it it would have been a smash. Phil was planning a third solo album and had three tunes ready. Laurence Archer was the guitarist, delivered a banger solo. By the way, Huey Lewis encouraged Phil to go up on octave. Lex will dig it. peace

I agree with a couple of other guys, there are a couple of tracks here that were stocking fillers. We have to remember the older they got, the more the drugs messed with their creative abilities. Me? I'd say their last truly cohesive album was Bad Reputation. Chinatown which followed it has a few strong songs on it too, and its saving grace was guitarist Snowy White who almost single handedly carried them over the line After that it hurts me to have to listen to their end of career stuff like Renegades and Thunder and Lightning. Phil vocally by now sounded asthmatic - a side effect of too much junk - and lyrically he was just recycling themes and ideas from earlier times because heroin kills a persons imagination dead. Thunder and Lightning was their metal album. Why? Because metal is the "easiest" form of rock to play. Phil used to rise above all the meatead types, but now he found himself down with them and the knuckledraggers and that was the end of them within 3 years of them splitting up Phil was dead at the age of 36......! What a waste of life. Scott Gorham said their biggest mistake and his biggest regret was him and Phil getting involved with heroin. He said he wishes he could have been strong enough to say no but he couldnt. He also went on to say that heroin destroyed them as a band. It killed Phil and very very nearly took Scott too. I really am glad you are highlighting Thin Lizzy Nick. Truly. I think once you know their back catalogue well, you will hear for yourself when they were really really on their game (Robertson - Gorham - Moore era) and when they clearly were not. Enjoy the journey. You still have plenty of stunning gems to find yet.

Thanks for continuing with these marathons. It's misleading to call Thin Lizzy underrated. Only in America, and even then the people who mattered were listening. Thin Lizzy were very successful, and even more influential. It's also misleading to keep emphasising the metal aspects of the music. Thin Lizzy has fans right across the musical spectrum, if you look at the diversity of acts who have covered their songs. That said, I don't think everything they did was great. Leave This Town is uninspired album filler, which Scott admitted drew heavily on ZZ Top, and I don't think Ode to Liberty is worthy of any of the talents involved.
