There are _quiet hours_ at night and midday when you should avoid making unnecessary noise (no construction work starts before 6am). There's a difference between flushing a toilet and watching TV at full blast at 3am.

Regarding shoes, it depends on where you are hiking. If you are hiking in the Alps, you should wear sturdy shoes that fit well, provide support and do not slip. The terrain can be very steep, and you will occasionally walk over scree and rocks. Equipping yourself properly for a mountain hike also has to do with respect. The mountain rescue teams sometimes have to risk their own lives to rescue tourists who have had accidents while wearing inappropriate equipment and with crocks on their feet. 🤔☹ Thank you for your great reaction videos and best wishes from Switzerland! 🫕🙋‍♀

There is clubbing and partying in Switzerland. Some smaller cities may be really quiet at night but you can definitively party from Friday evening until Monday morning in Zurich if you can stay awake that long. And the toilet flushing at night thing is a myth. No one gives a sh*t (pun intended) if you take a dump at 4am and flush.

I'm from Geneva, even though Switzerland isn't the temple of party i quite disagree with him. I mean, I spent my week end at rave parties near the lake, in abandoned warehouses, in the country side, etc. The "big" cities also have a lot of alternative culture places, bar, night club and so on. Of course it's not Berlin or Paris, but you can easily find places to party.

On public transport, for example, you can talk to each other at a normal volume. But it is less appreciated if you are loud. At the weekend, however, it can get louder when young people go out or come back from a night out. Regarding the rule of "flushing the toilet at night": Tourists are often surprised by this rule. We Swiss people laugh about it, to be honest. I don't know anyone who has ever thought about it. Most buildings are so well insulated that it doesn't bother anyone and you hardly notice anything. So you can use the toilet at night if you need to. Or are you trying to wet your pants? I think this rule refers to the old days or old buildings where you could still hear everything. 🙂

Swiss German is NOT German. It‘s different and there are dozens of (more or less) different varieties of Swiss German. 🤪 Of course people in the „German“ speaking part of Switzerland understand and can speak normal German. But we normally just don’t speak it in the everyday circumstances. We speak our Swiss German dialects and love to drive Germans crazy with it… 😂

Hmm... About the shoes...of course we got a good and affordable medical system in Switzerland, but I would say a broken foot is just as expensive here as it is in the USA. The only difference is, that the cost for us locals is carried in solidarity and therefor max 1000CHF depending on ones individual health insurance configuration, so healthcare is accessible to everyone. But since you will not have access to swiss healthcare financiation as a tourist, I would highly recommend you some good shoes that give you enough length and width in the forefoot and keep your ankles still, and are waterproof and at least somewhat insulated against the cold, because yes, there's snow till summer in high altitudes, and walking through rivers will leave your feet very cold once they've become wet. I think Switzerland's most worn shoes are Lowa Renegade for light hiking/trekking and the La Sportiva Nepal series for the rough stuff. They are suitable for heavy hiking, ice climbing and crampons. There even is a model of them with S3 foot protection toecaps for forest workers. Basically a work safety shoe and a hiking shoe combined. These may be the ones you can rent in certain tourist spots.

Well, about the being at the phone on trains or such... it may only be partially be because people don't appreciate it. But if you see something every single day, I guess it is not as special anymore as to someone who does not see it every single day. Like, I find the valley I live in quite pretty (Swiss myself, living in the East, in Graubünden). But I don't know if I could survive commute without listening to something or watching something, especially in the mornings. n.n" But I do appreciate how pretty my country is nonetheless. And if I travel to areas outside of where I live, you bet I am looking outside too. Maybe not every single second, but I will. I think plenty are just familiar with the vistas of our nature but still appreciative of it. Also, about Switzerland being expensive. One has to put it into perspective. We do earn more than many other countries, so of course our prices are a bit higher too. That's why people from countries where wages are lower than here, yeah, Switzerland can be rather expensive.

Just one thing: Flushing the toilet late at night is usually not a problem. I lived in Switzerland my entire life and have probably flushed the toilet at every possible time throughout the day. You may get complains when you regularly shower late at night (depending on how easy it is to hear in the other apartment) but I never heard about anyone getting complains due to toilet flushing. That‘s just something that circulates through the internet, that is not really a thing.

2:50 on some mountain tops it is always white yes :D However in recent years due to climate change there have been less and less mountain tops that stay white all year round and glaciers are melting FAST. It kinda sucks because I remember even in the early 2000 when I was a kid in Valais you could always see white mountains from down in the valley but now there's some years were all the mountains you can see are brown/grey and you have to go way up in the mountains to see snow in summer. On the topic of crocs, some people here did wear them outside when it was kind of the craze in the mid to late 2000s but now nobody wears them outside, some people wear them as house slippers and a lot of people who work in medical facilities like hospital or cliniques wear them on the job.

Haha... Who chokes on Fondue? Americans I guess... But Raclette is a vastly superior dish anyways. Brotha, there's snow in the mountains and lots of it, so it'll start melting maybe in March and take a while until it's gone. It'll stick around until around Mai/June on the higher Mts. So not much hiking and biking until well into Spring. Obv you'll have pretty nice warm spring days but the peaks are still white. As to the views... Most regulars/Swiss see this everyday for years. You get used to it. Although some areas clearly stand out. Where I live (secret) Im still in awe after almost 40y. Never gets old.

I mean, I've seen indian tourists on top of Jungfrau Joch walking across the glacier view platforms with flip-flops at -28°C. Absolutely cannot recommend, but it was funny to look at them sliding around the ice. But hiking in the alps does require some proper hiking shoes. You will have to deal with some larger rocks or even climb some of them on a few routes, so Crocs won't do at all.

Swiss guy here. - I can't imagine choking on fondue. I feel like you'd have to do it on purpose. - our weather is absolute bs. A running gag around here is that you can experience all seasons in one day (especially in fall and early spring) because the morning can start super cold and misty, maybe you'll get a rain shower or even hail a little later, a bright sun and t-shirt worthy temperatures in the afternoon and then some very chilling wind and maybe even some snow in the evening. - swiss german (or schwyzerdütsch) isn't hochdeutsch, that we can agree on. There is no written grammar for swiss german, it's all by ear. The fact that schwyzerdütsch varies a LOT from canton to canton doesn't exactly help. Even if you grasp the language from Bern pretty well, you might have issues understanding the one from Thurgau. That said, as a french-speaking swiss, every swiss german I've ever met could understand and speak high german, and if they see that you're struggling they're usually very accommodating. - I do shake my head disapprovingly at rule-breakers lmao - 12:53 there is no "lake geneva", it's called the Leman! Geneva is barely swiss, it's basically a part of France at this point, it's not their damn lake! I will absolutely die on that hill (or in that lake). - I wouldn't say there is no big party in switzerland. It's pretty easy to find bars and clubs, and big cities organise at least a few festivals every year. - We do enjoy our peace and quiet, but the "don't flush the toilets at night" rule only truly applies to people with bad neighbors, or to those who live in old buildings with no good sound isolation. I'm in my thirties and I've never had an issue flushing at any hour of the night. Stay quiet on the trains tho, that's the important piece of advice. If you're the noisiest person in the wagon, there will definitely be some disapproving head shakes from the people around. You've been warned. - Also, yeaaah, we're not the friendliest. It's considered polite around here to leave people alone unless they clearly signal that they're available. Most people will be polite if you strike up a conversation, and you might find the exception who actually likes to talk to strangers and makes friends quickly, but yeah even between us it's often hard to actually open up so we're not going to spend our energy on tourists who'll disappear the next day and we'll try to exit the interaction as quickly as possible without being too rude. - SWISS CHEESE SUPREMACY!!

17:50 those two are more myths than fact. There can be rules from the landlord about keeping it down after 22:00, but you'd have to have an ass of a neighbour for them to complain about flushing at night. In public, if you shout around or play music on speakers for an extended amount of time, you will be asked to leave or at least keep it down after 22:00. Only if you are an ass about it or still continue, you maybe get a fine.

Tipping in Switzerland is not a thing but appreciated if good service and if you have the money. Most of the time, it’s more like a nice gesture. For example, your bill cost 12,80; you can round it up to 13 or 15 CHFs. Some people go to some restaurants ans have like 300 bill and they leave like a 10 CHFs tip. But again, it always depends if circumstances! 😊 Personally, I’m on the poor side so I never tip. The servers never give you a nasty eye or treat you differently! It’s completely normal!
