My observation is that in the middle of all this insanity we began to think that tube amps were out. Now, at the seeming end, there’s all kinds of new mid tier tube amps, and there seems to be a resurgence of interest in amplifiers, unless the KZbins decides next week that amps are out again

Who’s we? You got a french-speaking mouse in your pocket? Well I do, and I’d argue that WE don’t want anything to do with digital crap tones when Princeton Reverbs exist. I remember back in the early 90's I used to go to Thoroughbred Music in Tampa and be able to try out many great guitars and amps. That was back when the Matchless amps first came out and they would have one of each model in stock......... as well as Marshals and Kitty Hawks, etc...... they stocked a lot of really great guitars and amps..... Now if I go to the local Guitar Center in another city and they hardly stock anything I would even be interested in....... I only go in there to buy strings once in a while...... hardly anything on the walls I would trade any of my guitars for, or amps........ I ended up buying one of those Sampson era Matchless Tornadoes in '94 and still have it...... Many place don't stock much now......

I've only purchased two guitars online, and it was a mixed bag. I bought a Squire bass for my son direct from Fender last Labor Day because it was a killer deal. ($230 shipped for a CV Jazz Bass.). The setup was awful, the fretwork was terrible, and the inner box was coated with dirt and black soot. But you couldn't beat that deal. And last summer I bought another Squier, the 40th Anniversary Vintage Tele from Amazon. I wasn't in the market for a Squier, but I couldn't pass up the deal. Completely opposite experience. The Tele was setup almost perfect out of the box. Just put on new strings and a minor intonation adjustment, and a fun guitar to noodle on (and pass along to the kiddo to learn on).

Sounds to me more like manufacturers creating artificial scarcity so they can keep already overly inflated prices high for a little bit longer. Interesting. What you guys are describing is very similar to Porsche's longtime marketing ethos: "We will build one less than you can sell." Ferrari's scheme is more dire - Probably more like "we will build five less than you can sell." It works for the respective manufacturers, but probably also helps to sell a lot of Corvette's and other sports cars. Law of unintended or perhaps, intended consequences.

If a NPI looks to be a hot one, it might be an idea to coordinate colors with other shops in your general area/region... "Yeah, dude... we don't have it in that hot, new Baby Poo Green Clear Coat Metalflake, but Acme does! Let's give 'em a call and see if they still have it! Dude." There's no price-fixing or whatever, just a cooperative network of product supply. This way, each store only has to buy, say 6, and they coordinate colors...😁

Would the exciting new thing from fender maybe also have the same Fienne Valley wood that the Suonas do? Fend got a hold of 800 trees, I'm sure some weren't usable, but even 400 trees is a lot of wood to just make guitar tops out of. I'm very curious to see what else they do with it. Probably top an acoustic with it, but what else? A solid body electric would be very appealing.

Firsr there's a flooding in building and selling guitars and related equipment., things settle down to a tighter production schedules, then there is the prediction of used equipment( possibly flooding the new market..and I'm assuming there's some kind of surplus of musical equipment that still needs to be sold with the bigger companies..with so much gear already out there how is it going to affect the "end user" down the road in say 2-5 years. Is the gear we buy today going to hold its value at the levels we see today? Is the gear we buy down the road going to spike in price? Are the quality standards going to continue to improve across the board? So many questions to wrap my single minded musician head over.

Ah, but what does that mean for the line worker? Cut hours? Lay offs? Then after the line workers, it goes up the chain, the janitor(s), shipping staff, office personnel? These kinds of changes in factory settings have ripple effects. How these larger manufacturers thought the wave they were riding would go on forever is really unfortunate, now the little guy, the worker will pay that price.

Pros & Cons: Con = when we(guitar players) get G.A.S. the local shops may not have what we’re looking for, and that’s a real bummer. ‘Possible’ Pro = if the makers could tighten up quality control then this would be a huge benefit. Will we see that as a real benefit/change? Doubtful I’ve just gone through some guitar buying(10~12 guitars total with 3 new guitars that I’m keeping) in May/June/July 2024, and I can tell you I’ve visited two local Las Vegas GCs and ordered online from SW, and I can tell you that QC has been garbage across the board for Fender and Gibson with dead spots on the fretboard even after a professional setup. Had to sell two guitars brand new condition losing $1000 on each one. Others were within the return policy period and were sent/brought back to the retailer.

These manufacturers have become so big and bloated, with so much invested into their current infrastructure that they've eliminated the possibility for lateral movement. Manufacturing across the world is moving towards on demand, and these guys are 10 years away from paying off their current equipment and even being able to think about changing their processes. They are handcuffed by contracts and agreements, that all they can do is watch as more agile brands take their market share. Their manufacturing processes are indicative of their corporate structure, outdated, antiquated, and uninspired. You look into who owns these brands and makes decisions, and they're people who don't know or care about guitars and music whatsoever.... and it shows... When the owners name is no longer the one on the headstock, quality drops dramatically every time.
