i love seeing the play and the songs - it adds so much to the experience - although i don't imagine Buttercup quite like this - it is really comedic and she's really good. he's just perfect as the 'hero'. :}

Oh, I love this! The G&S operettas were supposed to be silly and funny and bawdy, an intentional jab at the overwrought seriousness of Opera (and the Victorian era). Bravo!

I have to agree that Rima Te Wiata's playing of Buttercup was stronger. She played it with a strong cockney accent and as a young common girl, which fitted the character. She also played it mainly to the audience as thought it was a pantomime. Her interpretation lent itself to playfulness in this duet. All said, this is an earlier interpretation though and is still quite splendid in its delivery.

Doesn't matter how many times i watch this, this will always be my favourite G&S LOVE IT! Although Rima Te Wiata (from when the same group toured New Zealand) makes a better Buttercup in my opinion Amanda still does a stand up job though.

I love this performance of this "newer" version of the duet in the Pinafore score!!! p.s... to essgee007 - which version contains this and the other revisions? My score of Pinafore on the bookshelf at home is the "older" version, good but not as great as this one. Ditto on Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Mikado." thank you! marc

“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s THE MIKADO”? Is that different than ones by Gilbert and Sullivan, Lerner and Loewe or George and Ira Gershwin??

I don't really get everyone's preference for Rima. She was a bit more "natural," but I don't feel as though that really fits the character - I've always pictured Little Buttercup as gaudy, melodramatic and over-the-top. Compared to Amanda, I felt Rima's performance was a bit flat and boring, if I'm honest.

perspective - Prince passed during Dad's eulogy. Belated because the ship sank when he passed so nobody in the family saw it. Oh carp, actually, I'm blood related to this town. I was probably related to the audience and hid under my hat because I'm the only brown woman in the cast. This was FUN! As I was working my family tree, wondering where we were in 1840, I finally figured some of it out. I was mostly singing in the chorus and boosting tenors from back stage. The next show, John Blackwell Jr. passed while I was trying to reach out about the Maritime Codes of Honor and conduct. (Dad and I were both Navy) My maternal Grandma was born in Wichita, KS when her neice? was in the Amato Since the World's fair, competition has been fierce, but the privateers went too far. I'm a Grant-Blackwell from Order of Garter and Culloden. People hate my facts. sigh That's why this was to be performed, WAY BACK when he made Captain (equivalent) fascists held back our records, but only Real Jacobites can answer the call. By this time titles were up for sale. (I was happy with page turner, but the director roped me and I'm so glad we did, but Prince's Hit and Run tour was ripping me to shreds. The next show, John Blackwell Jr passed, July 4th. Brain cancer is a trait I'm now finding.

Pretty decent version, though as others has stated, Rima Te Wiata played the role of Little Buttercup much beter and seemed more natural.
