I've been a regular listener of your narrations since I was about eighteen, so it was pretty surreal seeing this pop up on KZbin. Thank you so much for reading my work! I truly am so, so grateful. Yourself and the other narrators did an incredible job of making my somewhat clichéd, "definitely written by a twenty-year old" dialogue seem true to life! Thank you also to everyone offering kind words and constructive criticism in the comments here. I'm trying to get back into writing short fiction more regularly, and I typically post on Medium as "Julian J. Alexander" when I do.

That was INCREDIBLE, Ronnie! What an amazing story, and you brought it to life so well 👏 my favorite thing was that the word “wendigo” was never mentioned, it was a breath of fresh air from so many pastas trying to “domesticate” the legend. It’s so refreshing to have a story that’s fairly obviously about a Wendigo (or similar), but doesn’t feel the need to spell it out via some kind of diegetic myth or folktale, and instead just presents the events and trusts the reader (or listener in this case) to put the pieces together. I absolutely loved it! 💖
@JulianJ.Alexander Жыл бұрын
This comment means a lot to me, thank you so much! This is pretty much exactly the angle I went for when I wrote the story however many years ago. I adore the concept of the wendigo but wanted to explicitly avoid a pulpy wendigo tale that stripped the mythical status from it. It's a terrifying legend and I hope I did it some justice.

My thoughts on the ending. Grundy didn’t fight back at all because I assume he wanted them to kill him. He probably realized he deserved it, or at least felt extreme guilt for the things he’d done. So even when he had fully transformed into that monster there was still enough of him in there to simply allow his death to happen.
@huntercreed1 Жыл бұрын
Personally I took it as what most of the story was. Subversion of expectations. Multiple times the MC tells us how surprised he is that real life isn't like the movies. Going into his partners apartment and finding it clean, orderly and well kept. The lady who survived the murders living in a house with a nice lawn, a well behaved child and a clean living area. So when Grundy says that he can't be killed because he is simply built different, I think he really believed he was immortal, invulnerable or very difficult to kill. So it's a further subversion of expectations, we expect that these monsters and things that go bump in the night must be unkillable, because most stories have these creatures need military grade hardware or super specific conditions to harm them. So to have him simply go down with two mags or cylinders of ammo catches us off guard.
@Xero_Kaiser Жыл бұрын
I kinda figured that the thing possessing Grundy just didn't have a reason to care about being "killed" since it can just find another host. Seemed to be what the ending was suggesting to me, anyway.
