This was extraordinarily fascinating and informative, thank you!! As you said, I think many of these would likely be shared by a lot of submissives, and in a way, some of them are what might be seen as positive/appealing traits in anybody - being polite, observant, trustworthy, appreciative, inquisitive, honest about fallibility, a feminist and such - and I can imagine that the appeal and importance of those things can be heightened within the context of a BDSM relationship and/or play session when you're sharing your yourself, your mind and your body and the maximal vulnerability that goes with it. I love being able to understand someone's mind and thought process, no matter the topic at hand, and why they like what they like and why they don't like why they don't like, so this was tremendously interesting and helpful and I have taken many notes! And I have no doubt that this will be very helpful to new and experienced dominants alike because no matter how experienced one is there is always the capacity to learn something new, the capacity to adapt and the capacity to improve. Not least because, as you listed, there's something to be said for taking the time and effort to learn how to do something!

Everyone I’ve ever played with has been because of 100% honesty. I knew what I wanted, they were eager to try, we talked through what we both wanted to try, and had an amazing time. A really good video, as always. Should be watched by all new dominants. Watching and listening for the reactions to every thing you do is absolutely crucial to my topping. Is the reaction positive, negative or absolutely nothing? How did they move? If a blow was too much or almost too much, the bare feet often show that, even if the sub doesn't vocalise. In 19 years of playing (as a switch) I haven't been safeworded and only get a yellow sometimes with people I haven't played with before. With regards to the top being clean and well presented: of course! Who would want to be up close and personal with someone who smells bad. I would extend this to making an effort with clothing. How many cishet male tops expect their subs to be hairless, corseted and in towering heels, fully made up, but wear jeans and a t shirt? Make a commensurate effort! Praise: after one particular sub mentioned how much they enjoyed when I told them how well they were doing, I make a point of during and post scene giving praise and encouragement. Ok, I have a question: the last favourite comment. "Like an adult". An adult as opposed to what???

An adult as opposed to a child. In the spanking world there's often some element of age play (parental storylines, school storylines) which tends to encourage performers to behave in a different way from how they naturally might IRL. In this case, my play partner was indicating that he wanted the absolute opposite of that, and he found a very hot (to me) way of expressing his desire to cane the 'real' me, rather than the on-screen version of me.
