As a drumline member I’ve witnessed many comrades go down to the fabled trash cans, drum major ladders, fire hydrants, stairs, ramps, fence, people etc. and every time that’s happened my percussion director always said “is the drum ok”

i play 4th bass at my school this year and the first day of band camp i literally took a gash of drywall out of one of the half walls at the entrance to our theatre because i couldn't see over the drum. drum was fine, wall was (and still is) not

When I was in drumline, we would pretend to throw an imaginary stick around in between reps. Each throw and catch got more exaggerated and intense. I loved it.

We have a running joke where every week one of us gets whacked with an imaginary bass mallet that came from orbit. That person then proceeds to chuck said mallet back into space, where it wreaks havoc on another poor soul the next week.

I’m primarily a trombone/baritone player even though I also play snare - the amount of times the trumpets would complain about keeping their horns up during spring training was infuriating so tenor players, I feel your pain.

bc u know, a 4 lb trumpet is significantly harder to march than bari sax, sousaphone, horizontal tuba, or tenor drums. so sad.

oh my god this right here, sometimes mainstage just decides to go on strike and there's nothing you can do while you have the loudest patch known to man blaring on every speaker with no way to turn it off as the midi reset key has joined the union

Not a drum instructor, but as a band director I'd be lying if I said I didn't do a few of these lmao. Particularly at 1:12, I'm bad about "Yeah just do it like this" and flubbing it. In fairness though, it's usually on a secondary instrument lol

I remember in summer band me playing bass 3 I was hitting the drum a little hard to the point I lost control to my right hand letting go to my stick and hitting a snare player.

The drum tech my freshmen year was having us run a section of the music and the snare kept dropping his stick so the drum tech grabbed it when it fell asked if it was the Snares which of course it was and he threw it as hard as he possibly could and it landed in the woods so the snare had to spend thirty minutes looking for his stick while the rest of us kept running that section

@@aidenheinz4237 in diameter ya but there are different sizes in depth which really doesnt make the pitch lower itself but more depth it is the more able it can support a lower tuning

4:35 I felt this on a spiritual level. I got switched to vibe my last season of indoor at the last minute and didn’t know exactly what I was doing. So when the tech (he was a college freshman music ed student and I was a senior) gave me a comment and after the next rep I would ask if that was better and he would say oh idk I forgot to watch u. 8:20 from personal expierence I can tell you: You absolutely can march in those shoes. Traditionally the marching bands wear those whilst paradeing and strolling through the city for 3 consecutive days.

The kids I teach are terrified of a pair of sticks I carry with me. I have my normal clicking sticks, but I also have my “tick” sticks. Those sticks are an abomination, they are Vic Firth Tom Aungst tenor hybrid sticks with the tips of the sticks sawed off and they are vertically taped(dumb thing I did in high school because I was bored). Any big mistakes they make, I have them use the tick sticks for a rep😂

2:02 One day during indoor rehearsal two years ago, we were walking to the gym and the guy on bass 5 had his AirPods in so he couldn’t hear anything when we said watch out. He ended up walking straight into one of the janitors trash cans on wheels. Luckily he didn’t fall down and stayed on his feet.

As a former bass drummer, I have tripped on a sousaphone and done the exact thing shown in the video. This was right before we performed at a football game. The drum was fine.

10:46 our loading dock is basically just an elevated slab on concrete about three feet off the ground and about 200ish square feet. We did not like our band director so at the end of the year with a little help from the football team, we got his little Prius onto the loading dock. Needless to say did not return the following year…

Oh my god, the number of times the synthesizer has broken before games are insane. I don't know if it was always broken, or if everyone was just an idiot at fixing it. I'm not a drumline/pit btw, I'm just a clarinet so idk how to fix it myself 😅

In my drumline when we slow down or speed up when we're not supposed to, it goes something like this: Instructor: "Why are you guys changing the tempo?" Bongo player: "Well, I was just listening to the bass drum." Snare player 1: "Yes, me too. He started to slow down, so I went along. Bass player: I was actually listening to you guys. The other snare players thinking: "We don't know what happened, we're only focused on playing our parts correctly.

Saturday I tripped over a little divit in the concrete....I have the biggest bass drum we march.....it thankfully landed on me and not the ground....the people helping out at the competition asked if I needed some water...I took the water....as well as the humor of my friends.....but hey, we got superiors so it was well worth it.

WHY IS SCOTTY WEARING PANTS?!!! I ran track when I was in elementary school and the teacher yelled at me when I brought soda as my drink. Thanks for bringing back that memory. Also, *drummer’s Oh, and you can say “Coronavirus” again in videos now. That demonetization rule seems to have been dropped months and months ago. Other KZbinrs I watched have said it. Or maybe they just said “covid.”

One of the cymbal players said to me “we’re not a competition band it’s fine if we make a few mistakes” after I got on them for marching 10 extra yards during pregame. This person is also the worst cymbal player.

I am a snare player in the drum line and we have the famous “one more time” phrase. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard it. Other ones for when we screw up include: “if you can say it, you can play it”, and “it sounds like thunder in here”.

That first one already wouldn't have happened from my band. We took very regular water breaks (almost too often I feel at times) because years before I joined, someone literally passed out during practice, and our director had to carry her to the bleachers to make sure she was alright. Ever since then, VERY sure it won't ever happen again.
