Things about video games that I hate: 1.So many “hidden gem” or underrated NES games costing over a hundred dollars online. 2.Having trouble either getting into a game or struggling with the difficulty of a game that everyone seems to love. 3.Having to decide between playing a game I need to finish or playing a game on the dreaded “backlog” just because I’ve had it too long and haven’t played it yet.😡 4.Having a love/hate relationship with how many stinking video games I have!! 5. That horrible glitch in one of my favorite wrestling games ever, WWF No Mercy, where occasionally all your data randomly gets erased!😬

I'm good paying a boring story heavy game that puts me to sleep. 😴. Alternatively I know some like pokemon sleep. I am glad the switch has a sleep mode. Helps with voice of cards, mato anomalies, pokemon mystery dungeon, and sea of stars. I do remember falling asleep to disgaea. Glad we got better strategy rpgs that don't push level/ability grinding as hard as that and fft (which I learned has a fanbase/guides that misinform). I am glad there are advance wars clones with better pacing or stories like wargroove 2, and customization.

Underwater stages with different controls reminds me of how bad I was at video games as a kid. I haven't significantly improved, but I learned one valuable skill: read the manual! I got an NES for Christmas, but it wasn't until the following spring, maybe summer before I got so far in the original Super Mario Bros. that I finally got to a water level. But immediately I was stuck! There was some pink coral blocking my way, which I could normally jump over, but for some reason Mario's signature jump was really short. I was flummoxed. I paused and unplugged the RF connector so my parents could still use the TV, and waited until I could meet with my friends to ask them what I was doing wrong. I finally learned that after I jumped, I could jump again before I landed, and this was called "swimming".

Great video! I always took care of my retro games. I kept them in their respective box or case when not playing them and stored them in a place not subject to extreme heat or dust. One peeve of mine was letting a friend or family member borrow one of my games, but it being returned in worse condition! The straw that broke the camel's back is that I had a mint condition copy of an N64 game I really liked and I let an acquaintance from high school borrow it for a weekend. When I picked up the game, the box and manual were missing and the cartridge was all scratched up. I got so annoyed that I never allowed anyone else to borrow any of my games again.

Micro-transactions, over reliance on DLC, patches to get “finished” games to run properly, games as service (which means that these games will not be playable once the servers go down), digital only games, games being licensed instead of owned (Ubisoft), expensive game services that slowly take away what they offer while increasing the price of the service (Xbox and Sony), Sweet Baby and other influencer companies injecting woke DEI garbage into our games while making women ugly and men emasculated… is that enough?

I hate that retro games come with a lack of saves. Now emulation has fixed that with save states, but if you want to play on original hardware then ur outta luck. Retro games can be some of the hardest games already, but often having to repeat a portion of the level JUST to go back to where your STUCK is not my kind of fun. The insane prices of classic retro games that keep going up. 4. When you want to play a game you played as a child, and you find out it's now for some reason selling for insane prices when it in the past never was costly. 5. All the insane microtransactions and in-game purchases that have replaced rge earning-by-playing factor. 6. Having only AAA titles with no decent selection of AA titles or decent A titles. 7. Not releasing completed products that are filled with glitshes and/or bugs that ruin the game experience (Ubisoft, EA, Activision, Sega etc.) 8. Nintendo's inhumane hunting for killing legacy content and archives/rom when they don't care about the content anyway. 9. Nintendo's unwillingness of having the offer of a modern e-Shop with the option to purchase legacy games - only subscription access sucks. 10. Nintendo not willing to co-op with decent studios over legacy IP's they have not cared for in many years = Wario Land, F-Zero, Star Fox, Ice Climber, Pilotwings, 1080 Snowboard etc. 11. Sega not willing to co-op with decent studios over legacy IP's they have not cared for in many years = Golden Axe, Altared Beast, Alien Syndrome, Nights, Eternal Champions, Ristar, Crazy Taxi etc. 12. Konami not willing to co-op with decent studios over legacy IP's they have not cared for in many years = Castlevania, Rocket Knight, Silent Hill etc. 13. Capcom not willing to co-op with decent studios over legacy IP's they have not cared for in many years = Mega Man, Final Fight, Strider, Lost Planet, Zack and Wiki, Ghosts 'n Goblins etc. 14. Online-only games. 15. Water levels with a timer and/or complex design. 16. Cheap deaths due to faulty programing and/or game design. 17. Over difficult boss fights. 18. Die in a game only to find out the last checkpoint is long way back and have to do all over again.

If we're mainly limiting it to 8-bit and 16-bit games, one thing you didn't mention was cartridges with battery saves. Having the option to save without spending way too long writing down a password and, later on, spending way too long inputting said password was awesome back in the day but today it's either an annoyance having to open the cartridge to replace the battery or a nightmare if the decades-old battery has leaked, potentially ruining the cartridge completely. Also, you sort of alluded to it with the Cadillacs and Dinosaurs arcade game example but another annoyance for playing classic games (officially) on modern hardware instead of having to find an original cartridge, optical disk, or arcade PCB and then having still-working hardware to play it upon, is "licensing limbo" for games with external licenses where the cost of re-acquiring a license for a re-release likely exceeds the amount of money a game publisher would get back from people buying a new release of an old game. Obviously, there are examples where a license is still popular enough to warrant a re-release, such as with the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, but, for every licensed game that gets a re-release there are many that don't, even games worthy of a modern re-release such as OutRun 2/SP/2006, a game with a very expensive car license attached to it preventing Sega from re-releasing it "as is". (Yeah, Sega could release a new version of OutRun 2 for modern hardware without having to re-license the cars from Ferrari by simply replacing the Ferraris with generic cars but that would be stripping the soul out of the game.) It goes without saying that you can still play these "license limbo" games on many modern devices in ways that aren't exactly "official" but it's still nice having an official option.
