When I made Aliyah, I sold everything. I sold my home. I sold my car. I came to Israel with two suitcases. That’s it. For all the furniture and stuff that I sold, I use that money to buy new stuff in Israel. It’s easier than having it imported. I know you guys are already packing so advice for that is probably not that much needed, but if you can purchase it in Israel, please purchase it in Israel. Do not bring it with you. Bring only the things that you need, buy the things that you need here, and bring with you only sentimental things that obviously can’t be replaced.

I’m 4th gen in Israel, your family makes me excited. Israel has gone through a lot and there’s a feeling that something is changing and transforming, as if the Jewish state moves closer to its goal of being a moral lighthouse of the world. I have this though that a higher souls are making their way here to take part of this change and help push it forward. I wish you a safe and happy journey, and can’t wait to see you here in Israel.

We received our Aliyah approval email four weeks after the Jewish agency interview. They requested another document after the interview that’s why it took longer. Then we booked our flight and submitted our passports for the Aliyah visas which took another two weeks. Now we are packing and getting rid of a lot of stuff as we are not bringing any furniture. Our Aliyah flight is August 6th out of LA! Very exciting development

For some families it is not easy... Israel and Israelis are very different from America. You must know too things: Israelis are very warm and good inside, but sometimes they appear as tough and even rude. Second, we used to so many Aliya, almost everyone's parents or grandparents wasn't born here, so you are not so different from all of us. This is our story... Good luck!

This is very true. We have an informal way of speaking. We are very direct and to the point. We don’t believe in all the fluff. Think of it as like a New Yorker. They’re gonna tell you like it is. You are very positive people. You will need that and it will serve you well. I've noticed that the positive people, especially those with school-age children seem to adjust much faster. At the same time, I'm glad some people have been "telling it like it is" so that you know you've got a serious adjustment in front of you. The adjustment was hard but I am happier now than I've ever been in my life. Not to be materialistic, but bring lots of your favorite cosmetics with you. You can get a lot of stuff here but it's good to have your own favorites to comfort you as you adjust. Hatzlacha raba! Please ask Israeli residents about specific brands so you don't bring things unnecessarily, but you do bring what you might initially miss.

It is a huge challenge, but it is so worth it. This is home, and once you come here you can't; live anywhere else:) your neshama will find it's place. Remember, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai said - three things are bought in tribulation: the Land of Israel, the Torah and the world to come! And it should make you happy, because as soon as there is suffering, it is a sign that you are on the right path. It's like a woman gets pregnant, she suffers during pregnancy, the baby kicks, and then she's in labor, but she's happy, because that's the only way she knows she's on the right path. I wish you and the whole family the best of luck in the land of Israel. And protect your children well from foreign influences, especially in the Land of Israel. Welcome to the Holy Land.
