I only took the taxi while I was in playa. I also did my best to pay as close to local rates as possible. I followed the taxi rate chart. Generally my rides were 35 to 50 pesos and I didn't ask the cost. I just handed the driver the money. I know they aren't treating locals well, so I refused to be part of the problem with overpaying.

I’m not sure I agree with this delineation of what expat is versus immigrant. It could be kind of a part of a woke trend to overpolice language, no? The usage of the terms is different and I do think it’s different audiences and groups with different needs. Expats are generally people who are moving to a new country bringing in money and investments, rarely looking for a job competing with local salaries. Immigrants, as it’s most commonly used, are generally moving out of economic necessity and are willing to work difficult jobs in their new country and are usually not bringing in much money, rather Human Resources. I don’t think one group is good or bad, they are just different and it’s normal for people to respond differently and use different terms because each group has a different effect on the host country and different needs and wants and hence different marketing for each. When my ancestors came to America they were immigrants, escaping religious oppression and poverty. When my uncle moved to Costa Rica he was looking for a cheap place to retire and enjoy his savings. Totally different groups and markets and it doesn’t mean to recognize they are different makes you elitist or racist. That card is really overplayed nowadays imho.

I appreciate this video and the insights you've shared. I do think there are a lot of American and Canadian people moving to Mexico. For comparison, I just googled how many Mex Cdns we have in Canada: 155,380 (0.42% of Canadian residents by ancestry, 2021 Census) 90,585 (by birth, 2021 Census). So I'd be curious to learn how many Cdns have moved to Mex in last few years. I bet it's a lot!

@ForTheRoadTravels
@ForTheRoadTravels Жыл бұрын
Hey Ron 🤗🤗 You're most welcome! Rent is largely dependant on how close you want to live to the beach - we live about 20 minutes (by car) away from the beach and average rental here is around US$600 per month. If you're wanting to live near the 5th avenue, we would imagine rent is closer to US$1000-1500 per month 😊😊 If you look up a channel called @freedomplaya Letita works in the realm of real estate in PDC and I'm sure she'd be able to give you a better answer 😊😊

The most economical will be taking the colectivos (van) and taking the public transport in Cancun to get to the ferry port, it is safe but some of the vans love to pack the units and tend to go faster. Our best recommendation is to take a tour like this: shrsl.com/4gtxk The are other more affordable options too: gyg.me/FCqJ1QFo *_P.S: Disclaimer: The links above are affiliated; booking through it does not cost you extra, and we get a little kickback that helps us create more FREE content on KZbin. *Hola Roger,* 👋👋 Thank you so much for watching our video 🙏🙏 It is definitely something we've been so sad to see about the taxis in the entire region, they're charging prices that you might not even pay in the US, ADO is great we highly recommend taking the ADO straight to Tulum, but do not buy the tickets until you arrive, once arrive to Tulum depending where your hotel is located, you might get a "decent" taxi driver who can take you all for a reasonable price, however, they are charging 30USD to take you from Tulum centro to the Tulum beach zone, total rip off.

*Hola Christian* 👋 There is no such a rideshare with the taxis here, in fact, we strongly recommend not hopping on a taxi that has already a passenger, for safety! Unfortunately, Uber is far from reality to operate in the area while the taxi union keeps striking due to the regulation, so the only options are the taxis and local transportation 😔. Thank you for watching and commenting amigo, this really helps us out 🫶

This makes me nervous because I'm moving there with my 2 month old twin babies, 5 year old, and 7 year old sons. Me and my spouse have decided we'd probably have to book 2 Ubers every time we go somewhere as a family, but now reading about the taxi situation I'm wondering if maybe Playa Del Carmen isn't a good fit for us? We were looking for somewhere walkable, but also on the quantana roo side. Last year, we lived on the Yucatan side near Progresso. I'm wondering if it's best to just go back there? I've also thought about Campeche. Do you happen to know if there are any places in the Quantana Roo side that does use Ubers? Or, is it just banned all along that area. I'm not too sure I can risk corruption/any trouble with a family of 4 younger kids. It'll be A LOT on me... Thank you for your videos. I just subscribed :)

Great video! Thks for sharing. Yes, i tried using radio taxi app but it didn’t work. On the street all of the taxis would ask for triple what it was supposed to cost. I decided we shouldn’t use colectivo bc we are 5, and it’s not fair to ppl who need it to take 5 seats away frm ppl who rely on it. Definitely why they are getting overwhelmed, i hear frm many tourists that they use the colectivos. We are on a budget tho, so we changed our plans used taxis for cenotes once + on cozumel once, then did simple day trips on foot the rest of the month. We skipped xelha bc the admission was already too steep for our fam of 5, nevermind the crazy priced taxis 😂 Loving the walk ability here though! 👌

*Really?* We have not used the app in months, but we are working on something, and we will be testing Radio Taxi as well as another new one that has been released. We can believe that they always tried their best to rip off people! Thank you so much for sharing your experience, and we hope next time you can visit Xel-ha park! 🫶🙏

@@ForTheRoadTravels thk you!I look fwd to hearing about the apps! Radiotaxi didn’t wrk for me the day I tried and non of the whatsapp numbers posted online were in service any longer. At avenida 25, the taxi drivers were not interested in making deals, they only wanted the tourist price or they would let us walk. Too many ppl unaware of actual prices + willing to overpay.

Yeah, most of the taxi drivers really make PDC look bad on the tourism we hope they improve their app and stick to the rate sheet and not trying to rip off the tourist and locals, this will change some much to move around this area 🫶

*Hola Lisa* 👋 Awwww, thank you so much amiga. Awesome, where will you be staying in PDC if you don't mind us asking? Cozumel is super safe, PDC we highly recommend avoiding walking on dark/empty streets at night and not flashing any fancy jewelry. and always avoid the people offering drugs at 5th Ave. Other than that PDC is very safe, and we bet you will have an amazing time. Thank you for watching and commenting this helps us tremendously on our channel 🙏🥰

Hi there … just came across your videos and have watched a few so far - great content 😊.. I’m considering Mexico in May this year and would appreciate your recommendations.. I prefer staying in quieter resorts with access to lovely beaches (I was looking at Playacar?- is it worth it) I def want to experience the local culture, food and shopping (souvenirs) and would like to see the Ruins and experience the Cenotes … any advice will be greatly appreciated.. I’m thinking to def visit isla mujeres as the beaches look amazing from your vlogs.. thank you 😊

Hi Michele 🤗🤗 Thank you, we're so happy you've been enjoying our videos 🫶 Amazing, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with a trip to Mexico - it's such a beautiful and diverse country 🇲🇽 Playacar is actually amazing, we stayed there for our honeymoon and absolutely LOVED how quiet, beautiful and peaceful it was! 🌴 But if you do stay in Playacar, its absolutely worth getting out of the estate in the day time to experience some local cuisine 🌮 You've got to try a torta de cochinita, a queso empanada and a marquesita too 🇲🇽 You'll find all the souvenirs you could dream of on the 5th avenue ☺️ We went to the Tulum ruins a few years ago before moving here and they were definitely worth seeing, but go in the morning because it gets SO hot by midday 🤭 If you're really into history, the 2.5 hour drtive to Chichen Itza is amazing and much bigger than the ruin site in Tulum 🙂 There are a TON of cenotes in the area - we'd recommend checking-out Cantun-Chi if you'd like a full day worth of cenotes - they have 5 amazing cenotes on site and offer lunch and lots of hammock space to enjoy the jungle 🌴 Isla is a must do - definitely get there early to enjoy the beaches nice and quite, or even stay a night 🙌 We've got a full Riviera Maya playlist with tons of fun things to do in this region of Mexico 🫶

Hey great video! Really enjoying this. We are from London and looking to go to PDC in July, we have a 4 year old kid so this looks like a great destination. Would you say there's enough 'authentic' less touristy stuff to see once you get outside of the hotels? I'm guessing this area is also better for families vs Cancun right?

Hola amig@ 🙌 Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. Your question is really interesting, and we'll definitely keep it in mind for our next video on safety. 🙏 We completely understand your concern, and we want to assure you that we aim to be transparent and not sugarcoat any of the challenges that can exist here. Fortunately, we've been living together in PDC for some time now, and we've been fortunate enough to not experience any safety issues. We have heard about incidents of violence, but it's important to note that the majority of these cases are related to drugs and are often targeted. 🧐 The government has taken steps to enhance safety by increasing the police presence on the streets. PDC is a fantastic place to live, and as always, we recommend doing a discovery trip to get a feel for the place before making any decisions about moving here. 🫶🤩 We're committed to creating more content that can provide this kind of information to our audience. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we appreciate your support. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or suggestions. 🥰

I disagree with the expat I think there’s nothing wrong with that’s word expat means someone who moves to a new country with the goal to return to there home country one day and a immigrant is someone who does not want to return home

There’s clearly a difference between the 2 terms I live in Canada and lots of foreigners come here I heard people from Japan, India and many more places call them selves expats it’s not a term only Americans use so I disagree with that vid that guy clearly spent 0 seconds reaching the difference between expat and immigrant
