But sometimes it’s annoying because it’s downplayed, like I read until Friday night by Allie glines because of someone’s rec and the amount of internalized misogyny in that one book was insane. I hate it when the characters only have a relationship based on their sexual attraction but i dont think the emotional conection has to necesarily happen first. I'm okay with books where the characters start having a sexual relationship and then it turns into more. as long as the author developes the relationship well i don't really care which one came first

I remember reading a fantasy book with a child speaking to his mother while still inside the womb... Like she found out she was around a week or two pregnant then her child started to talk to her, help her in her journey, and more. I'm just there throwing a tantrum of that cringe parts of the story. The book was decent and I actually started to "love" it, but then the child pops up... Edit: I also remember the child stopping an angel army at a month old... AN ANGEL ARMY WAS STOPPED BY AN INFANT.....

Also not once have I read about high school MCs actually studying when they're in year 11/12???? and like I understand thats not a priority in many teenagers' lives but how do these book characters go through the entire school year surrounded in all this drama yet still somehow find themselves on their way to an Ivy League school after graduation like???? most people aren't geniuses like that and actually have to work for their grades and therefore dont have time for all this drama plsss lmao you could have had the whole school setup thing going on while making them have realistically busy and drama-filled lives by making them uni students !!!

As someone who wants to write a book, this was definitely helpful. I agree with everything you have said. If a relationship or character is portrayed poorly it will stop me from reading, no matter how good the plot is, and vise versa. I also really despise unnecessary information in books as that leads to plot holes. I have read a few books where the side plots are totally irrelevant to the main plot, which leaves you wondering if it was even needed in the story. Like you said, the endings should be rounded up properly as well. I also hate it when authors will drag out a story and rush the ending. As a reader you just end up feeling like you haven’t achieved that satisfaction with finishing the book, and it makes you wonder why you bothered to spend hours to even read the story.

I both agree and disagree with the "distinguishing reality from fiction" idea because on one hand even if a book touches on problematic ideas or behaviours it doesn't mean that the person reading condones those behaviors BUT I find it really hard to read books with problematic aspects where the those ideas aren't ever challenged or denounced because it just reads as romanticisation of those toxic behaviors which is super harmful. Like in After for example my main issue with that book is that it rarely points out or acknowledges just how toxic the relationship is and the fact that they end up together in the end after all that borderline abusive behavior with little to no character development is just very icky to me I much prefer when books like that end in the characters splitting up and learning from the bad aspects of the previous relationships to become better people.

I appreciate this video, lately I have been getting more mad at books because so many of them just end so abruptly, like whatever conflict gets solved and then it’s over a few pages or one chapter later and it makes me so mad.
