I’m from Brooklyn and I know what you’re talking about on a generational level. As a result I am planning to move abroad (Mexico)and I have 20 years worth of stuff in my apartment that I have to purge through. For me it was finally moving to my own apartment in 1998 and filling it with things that I wanted that represented my own style and way of living, which was the opposite of the stuff my older family owned that I tied dysfunction to. Now that I have done some emotional unpacking, it will be easier for me to get rid of these things that no longer represent me. I also think that impulse buying is a form of imposter syndrome, having things that you may believe represents the so called American dream. It can go so deep. ❤

Yes I agree, but for me impulsive shopping isn’t even materialistic things or things that cost $$$$. It’s mainly food, and I legit have a bag of VS undersea that has about 20 new pairs in it ( just in case ) . It’s tough. What part of Mexico are you thinking about? I was living in Merida for several months before here . I’m wishing you the best of luck with downsizing ♥️

Lord knows I don't want to be the person to bring up race and culture, BUT a lot of what you shared is relevant to Black folks (and other individuals from generations of 'struggle')... going centuries not being able to buy what you want... first because you literally couldn't by law (owned by other people) and then because you were lucky if you got a job as a Black person, you didn't get paid much. So we've gone generation after generation, barely getting by. Now, with better access to jobs, money, etc., we just buy stuff because we can. Add on top of that the fact that we live in a consumerist-based society, so a ton of folks have credit cards, crazy car notes and unnecessary loans and are just buying just to buy (what you were saying). It's a challenge to fight the push by the media to buy, buy, buy... This issue is hitting everyone... I'm a professor now educating my low-income/first-gen students on this so I really appreciate you sharing this video with your challenges and how you're working on it... :)

Hello, We are retired military (Army) and moving to portugal. Do you have any idea how we could continue to get our medication from tticare. Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gerry & Estela.

From my understanding it would have to come from Rota, Spain. For the most part prescriptions are affordable and you can file a claim for reimbursement.

Thanks for your reply. We call Rota Spain and all we need to is transfer from Germany to Spain and they will assign us a primary care doctor

I suggest you come to one of our events this summer. I’ll be doing a lot of traveling so unfortunately I can’t commit to meet ups outside of the events we have planned for Black in Portugal.
