I totally agree I am 62 retired 2 years ago & am downsizing the house to sell at some point. I sell as a side hustle so I have to keep up with donations being done. I have gotten rid of almost half of my house contents already including a dumpster full it feels so good. I will never need or have this much stuff again in my life. I just want to travel with extra money I can stash or on experiences. Awesome you are thinking of this now Ann all about a simple life to enjoy it.

Very interesting Ann. I’ve been watching you maybe two years and must admit I wondered about your subscription purchases and the extreme couponing this spring. But I’m very much a ‘you do you’ sort of gal and if it gave you pleasure fine with me. I feel you’re on a much healthier financial path now 🎉. I’m twenty years older than you and really getting serious about declutterring. Two areas hardest for me are my books AND the family heirlooms. My two adult children have expressed not wanting most of it and there’s just too much. Trying to let go and let others appreciate these things. Not easy but feels good to lighten the load!

Great ideas! I'm 70 and retired, so make up is vey minimal now & only when I go out lol. Clothes also are just for comfort and no longer have shoes that match every outfit or purse lol. I have updated and bought new "pajamas" which can be worn as "lounge" wear, for those do-nothing days.

Good video, we all need to reconsider and just spend on what serves us! Saying that, lol, mayyyyyyyybe reconsider the advent calendars, there's just so many fun ones!! And if it's FUN to do it then it's "worth" doing, especially to have something to look forward to in the dark winter days. I got 4 for myself, one has little craft items in it so I'll do a little artsy thing every day. Another is essential oils, I use them anyway and every day I can use a different one in a burner. I don't have a lot of people to buy for, just like 3, so doing advent stuff is something I can spend money on and helps my mental health in December.

I'm so glad to see you post this! I started to do the same last year and it's been like a life refresh. I've donated or tossed so much stuff and with every tote gone I feel less stress. Plus I enjoy seeing the financial benefit. And I love your gray. It suits you well.

Hey Ann! Yes, we'd like to see a list of what you're spending money on now! Thanks for sharing!! I will miss the advent calendars, but you're right, tons of other YTuber's do advent calendars too!

Simplifying can really reduce stress. So nice to be able to find as much enjoyment in later years and that doesn’t truly come with things. Surround yourself with what truly makes you happy and leave the rest. So funny “cereal” I buy things that are “healthy” for me and then don’t eat cause I don’t like it so why am I buying it! I’m 58 and I’m tired of “should do”. I am in same position right now with my mom, give you whatever she’ll eat doesn’t matter what so to much stuff piling up. It’s nice to watch a video of someone can actually relate to. Oh my gosh I alway say to if end of world is coming I don’t want to be fighting to survive I’m going out with a Diet Coke and pizza in my hand.

I quit wearing any eye makeup. I no longer miss it. I only wear foundation when I work or if I'm visiting someone.

Love that you’re posting ❤❤. You have a good list! I laughed at feeling like you need to agent cereal. Never thought about that as a need haha. And don’t forget your fat free Pringle’s! 😋. I love grocery delivery too, it’s the best!!! And it’s a money saver for us- not in the store impulse buying.

I totally understand cutting back on stuff you wind up wasting . I do buy Raisin bran, Cheerios etc as my snack. I tried the Fairlife protein. It just didnt jive with my tastebuds. But cutting back on "stuff" is very much the thing to do. Shoes are something else i splurge on. By that i mean I wear em hard due to bad feet. I'll buy if i need em. I do hope we see the doggy advent treat calendars. Ive loved it on your channel

Smart!..being retired...I've cut way back on shopping..will be downsizing in the next few years...I only decorate a few areas in my house because the grandlittles like it😊...our county food pantry takes all those bath/hair products and have a noncontact 24hr drop off area❤

Great list :) Grocery delivery has been a major budget helper for me. I'm a snacker but even with that I've cut back to the 'staples', not buying random stuff on special because it's a great deal. I have a very basic wardrobe too. I have several of the same tops because they are comfy. I haven't needed to buy clothes in a few years now but I will have to get some new sleep pants soon. I don't wear makeup. Sensitive skin and not working in an office now, I just don't feel that I need to. I never enjoyed wearing it so I don't miss it. I do very much like certain body wash and hand wash so if there's a sale, that's when I stock up. My weakness is craft & stationery supplies. We're having a garage sale in November (it's spring here in Australia) so I'm in the midst of a major purge. Lots will be donated if it doesn't sell. My other weakness is getting stuff for my boys (2 cats). It's the one area that I'll still indulge in because donating stuff to shelters makes me happy so nothing is ever wasted when it comes to the animals ❤
@jmknudsen53578 күн бұрын
Stockpiled hygiene items can be donated to shelters.
@AnnEckhart8 күн бұрын
This is easier said than done. Any time I’ve tried to donate products anywhere it always ends up being such a hassle to get to the location, to find a staff member to accept the donations, etc. Most shelters don’t allow people to visit because they are trying to protect abused women and children. I find it easier to just donate cash rather than spend so much time and effort couponing. Time is money and I’d rather just give them money, which is what they prefer so they can buy what they need. The food pantry, for example, can buy 10 times more food with money versus accepting physical donations.

Hi Ann - Fun video hearing all about your cuts! Will miss the Advent calendar reveals (cheese & Godiva) - but understandable as many calendars are gimmicky & overpriced! ❤

Well, that was a challenge to me, Ann! I need to get rid of the accumulation of stuff that has gradually filled my house over the years. Last week, I sorted out clothes in good condition that no longer fit, books, ornaments, general bric a brac and filled three big garbage bags which went to the local charity shop. If I have a coupon for a free item I sometimes I take the free items to the local foodbank. So I will carry on getting rid of stuff - you have inspired me with your video. Carry on clearing out!

Good idea to donate the free items to the foodbank. I need to start doing that.

Can people somehow use coupons if they are ordering for delivery from grocery store ?
@AnnEckhart8 күн бұрын
Target allows this through their circle app because all discounts are applied when you order online or pay in store. Their discounts apply automatically now so it’s effortless.

My partner has a bowl of cereal as an after dinner snack every night. On my first trip to the US from Australia, I bought so many boxes of cereal there lol. All the ones I’d grown up watching on tv. They were all so sweet! I don’t think much of them got eaten
@rubyred88458 күн бұрын
Ann with the excess toiletries maybe you could donate them to food pantries? Or pass them to family members if they'd like. I get you, I am not a minimalist but I don't like clutter or too many things. These days everything is becoming more expensive, so we all have to cut back were ever we can.

Great video Ann! As you look forward to retirement, make sure to check out your social security statement to see a snapshot of your benefits and you are hitting the 40 credits needed. It will help you in your planning. Isn’t funny how we collect things in our younger life and once you hit 50 it’s time to purge? I know the feeling and am right with you! All the best to your downsizing journey!
