As a Jordanian moved to Germany lately. I am surprised about the addressing system. It is so easy and understandable. You can find any place you wish to go to quickly. Although people in Jordan get used to that but I would really recommend a revolution in this part!

Awesome video as always! So my experiences with "odd things in Jordan": - small kids sitting in the back of a pickup-truck (on the load platform) and the car racing (had several heart attacks seeing this) - comically high sidewalks - people distinguishing chicken and meat (beef) lol never got that one ^^ - people being obsessed with Valentines Day? (while in Europe we think it's stupid :D) - people eating literally any random pill you'll hand to them if you claim it helps against an ache - leaving the grocery cart just outside in the middle of the parking lot or just outside the supermarket - children being wrapped in wool blankets in 40° temperature - the abundance of milk formula But there are also super puzzling nice "odd" things like everybody being exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The ease in which you can form friendships and get to know people, the bonds you form. The food (obviously), the beauty of the land.. it really made me feel like home. Sadly I no longer live there... inshalah one day :) Thanks for your videos, it's like a window to my former home

LOL yes!!!! I'm a vegetarian and whenever I tell people I don't eat meat, they're like "oh ok, so you still eat chicken??" I'm like "umm nope, that's meat" lol. I never understood that at all. Similar to you, I'm also so confused by children being wrapped in layer upon layer of wool clothing/blankets even when it's hot outside.

@@zaidal-khateeb8800 Hi Zaid, I think what she means is that when you say 'meat' here in Jordan, people often do not include chicken in that. For example, when I tell people I do not eat any meat, they still ask me if I eat chicken. Chicken and meat are classified as two different things here.

I lived in Jordan for 4 years... I was surprised that the electrical bill never gets issued to the renters but the owner of the apartment... So they end up having often tons of open bills and then renters take off and no one wants to pay the bills. The address /street name problem comes from the culture... Middle Eastern cultures are not moving /traveling cultures but about family and community... It's passed down through generations that you are mainly interested in your immediate family and neighborhoods (maybe a bit different in Amman)... My very good friend lived in Amman and she had never been to Madaba!! So I took her. You can see this mirrored eg in the word شمال, they use it for left AND north :) It's really interesting to see the odd things in your new culture but also about your home culture 😊

This is really interesting! :) for a Jordanian living abroad for almost 12 years now, I don't want to comment on each of the topics specifically, but generally speaking, these issues have been there since ever, and it does not seem that we are prospecting a change any soon. The underlying reason why these issues are persistent, I believe, is that we as a community do not see them as issues, or we got so overwhelmed and used to them that we cannot see them as serious issues anymore. it's always helpful to seek the outsider's perspective, whether from people who come from the outer bigger globe to the little lovely globe of Jordan :), or to travel outside and explore how other communities live and deal with this stuff. Of course, each community has its own problems, but this should not stand as a self-soothing justification - we are talking about basic safety stuff, basic family needs (family carrier), going easy with serious young couples who simply want to get under one roof with peace and love :) ... I'm so triggered now to think of how I can contribute to improving these things in Jordan, lovely Jordan, which still remains the warmest cuddling home that is bloodily missed! :)

Thank you really for your input and I hope it gets elevated to decision makers because it's important to have the other opinion if we want to improve , one word, over-complication, is the slogan loved by Jordanians, it starts with school curriculums and system, university curriculum where you study things you don't really need, and projects are usually done without a proper framework and future timeline planning ...

Also, about the address system, I've thought about this before and I think the reason it's difficult to implement may be the language barrier between the spoken language and technology. I'm sure you know by now that technically you do have somewhat of a formal address--the streets are named and the buildings are numbered--but more often than not, it's hard to spell it in a way that navigation apps can recognize. The only solution I could think of is to have an Arabic and English name to every street. The signs are written in both languages, may as well have two names.

But you talked about the radio that most people do not own the radio and this is a strange thing and you are really right about this, but I have my own radio and always listen to it .. And my talk about the issue of marriage and the high cost of living I swear that you are right about this. Everything is very high. I am 34 years old and I am still single because if I applied to one of the girls, the girl’s family would take advantage of the situation and set incapable conditions for me and demand a very high dowry as if I am working as a minister or official in the state .. Thank you my sister because you spoke about this situation and all Something you are saying is 100% correct

With regard to electricity sockets in flats like the one you live in... It is the gready of the people who build these big 4 story buildings. They try to save in every item they put... That is why they usually put these 2 holes sockets.. They are cheaper. Another issue, the plug case can hold 2 swithchs and one plug and so they can save on plug cases and ofcourse on the money they pay to the electrician

The lack of a proper address system in Jordan is really annoying and should be fixed Also even though no one sends letters in the mail anymore having a mailbox can be very useful especially when you buy and order things online
@vanessa7566
@vanessa7566 3 жыл бұрын
Address system is convenient but with the way Jordan is set up it isn’t exactly necessary as it is in the states for example. Anytime we send something to family I’m Jordan it goes to the postal office and someone in the family picks it up from there and that’s for ordering anything you go pick it up. In the states we get our bills in the mail if you’re not paperless but also in jordan you just go to the offices and pay in person. So it’s something strange outside of Jordan bc it’s so common but within jordan it’s not exactly necessary. The only thing I really find annoying about it is when we are going to someone’s house, I still find that difficult lol but you always end up in the right place in the end.

And about the ringing and internet service I just buy monthly a card of 7. 5 JD ( about 10 US Dollar) which provide lots of speaking minutes and 20 GB of internet. Lots of pepole also tend to buy another internet router for there apartments so every body use it and spear the telephone internet for outside, hard times, or when the router internet is a bit slow

Regarding usage of radio... If you can go back in history 40 years you could see Jordanians carrying small transistor radios in their hands when walking, or pikninking,... Etc... THE AGE OF TV started in the 70's of the 20'th century, People stated to loose interest in radi for TV... Then in 1995 the Age of satellites started and people became less intersted in local TV to a more enjoyable, more trusty international TV station such as MBC and Aljazeera, CNN, BBC... Etc. Followed soon by the age of the internet and mobile phones and people started loosing interest in TV and gone into youtube, facebook,... Etc. However, still when driving we switch back to radio since it is the only safe media option

@@larkabroad yes we don't have mailboxes, and the only way to check what you received is by going to the post office..not to mention that most mailboxes are shared with a big group of people more like a neighbourhood of relatives or something..and don't get us started on never receiving packages if someone sent you a present through mail you only have 00.001% chance of receiving it because it gets stolen in the way 😂

@@leen_art Is DHL any better? I am sad that parcels are not received!

@@larkabroad it is but it's costly and you have to pay taxes that are just insanely complicated (the airport customs workers estimate how much you have to pay and it could be really crazy)..same goes for online shopping which is why most people avoid it. there are some companies that would help you send a package more efficiently but then you'll need to find a good and trust worthy one. I would rather avoid the drama personally 😂

I tried to send a packet to my friend in Jordan, and neither of us knew how and where and all that :D I ended up getting the packet back to Finland after 3 months :D

Years ago I lived in Mexico. You'd see whole families driving around with Grandma's in a resin chair in the back of a pick up with all the kids. You'd have to give directions to your house like pass the Cathedral, turn right were the guy selling honey is. When you see the taco stand stop. The only mail I got was my electric & phone bill under a rock st the bottom of 77 steps. Any letters had to be searched for at the PO. Fun video!

I don't mean to criticize much like you, I am a Muslim Jordanian, and many times I wonder about the same questions. They are rather more cultural than religious reasons that explain the situation there, unfortunately, there is no religion that encourages the old classical habit of early childhood driving lessons, and to make it worse, there were recent incidents where a kid stole the keys from the house to drive, and accidentally, stepped over his other little brother who was sneaked out too to wait out of the garage...Please don't freak out from hearing about such mishaps and remember that Jordan is a small country sometimes with loud social media. but don't worry, usually, classical fathers are patient about their children touching the wheel. That kid yous aw behind the wheel must've been well trained how to sit with minimal chances of causing a disaster. I know that highway following years driving there VERY WELL. Thanks for raising up all the good points.

I can't imagine anyone (in any country) having a radio inside the home nowadays... I find it weird that the british do! I actually grew up in Amman but I left 15 years ago. My family had a radio, and I feel like it was a common thing to have back then...
