If you are a foreigner in Norway, I can't stress how important your point of ''taking initiative'' actually is. As Norwegians might come across mistakenly as ''reserved'' when what they actually are doing is attempting to be humble and respectful of your privacy as they don't want you to feel like they are ''bothering'' you or invading on your personal space or erands. In many cases you can probably find this mentality of ''standing open invitation'' in Norway, hence why ''taking initiative'' is a very good thing. If you want to tag along, join something or do something, be vocal about it. If you ever come across an instance where you feel left our or not included, it is 9 out of 10 times not because people don't want to include you, unless they have a strong reason to do so. It is most often because people assume that you are busy with personal and private erands unless voiced otherwise, because there is this mentality where people don't want to ''put you on the spot''. People want to avoid putting you in a situation where you might end up feeling bad or uncomfortable for having to turn them down. It's this whole mentality about that it might be difficult and people might feel bad if they reject or turn down other people. Norwegians are very humble and highly socially aware.

@@seramer8752 I don't respect her opinion. In fact, I find it stupid. She obviously has no clue about what it means to be foreign in an unknown culture. I do appreciate her warnings though - she makes some good points. For instance, Norwegians are indeed individualists and even anti-social compared to Danes. They think it should be hard to establish a new friendship and at this point, I do agree with the Norwegians. If it's too easy to be let into the warmth there's not much to lose. It compares to a forum where you get all privileges just after signup. This is doomed to be a rat nest like Twitter. The world has something valuable to learn from the Norwegians, even the Danes, and Swedes too. She's right about Norwegians don't have a priori hate for (new) people. It's much worse than that. They are indifferent - and it's a good thing.

@@seramer8752 kinda agree because the language is less of a barrier, and the culture is very similar and its shorter to travel back home, same time zone, similar temperatures (depends where she moved to in Norway). etc. Although danish people might be more outgoing and outspoken scandinavia is all very similar. But she might help others that are curious about this and wants tips.

If you are interested in exercise my biggest advice would be to seek out a crossfit gym. They arrange Summer and christmas partys and there is a much more social vibe than in normal gyms, people are there to socialize. the premium you pay is worth it in my opinion. Over 3/4 of my friends in Oslo i met initially at Crossfit

Hilarious! A Dane talking about having to learn a new language when moving to Norway? What you basically have to do is to learn a totally new pronunciation - Danish virtually IS Norwegian Bokmål (or vice versa?).

Why are scared lol? I’d be way more scared if visiting the US, which are nuts on all levels, and basically lawless compared to here. Modern 3rd world country in disguise. No universal healthcare, no free education, no working democracy, no equality and human rights. Corrupt, and religious nuts everywhere. I’d rather be scared of being mocked, as we don’t particularly like Americans here🤡🤡🤡

We have 4 seasons. It’s not just cold, snow and ice here. It also varies greatly depending on where in Norway you live, north VS south, west VS east, and die to climate change, winters are less cold, more rain, little snow, and summers are hotter, dryer and lasts longer. It’s all about being properly dressed and have the right attitude.

Interesting. You're from Denmark and consider yourself a "foreigner" in Norway. If you speak Danish aren't you more than halfway into speaking Norwegian? Norwegian's are actually very kind people but my father, a Norwegian, was heard to say that "Danish isn't a language at all, just an awkward way of expressing yourself." LOL.

It's not about appearance but about the cultural norms one is used to. Something more appropriate would probably be something such as "If she's from denmark, a country very similar to Norway, imagine how difficult it'd be for someone from a different continent 😂"
