I’ve visited Singapore a couple of times and have really enjoyed it. Even the heat & humidity - it’s so different from the UK that you just know you’ve got to do things differently. But I’m in awe of all the locals who never seem to break sweat, or at least never show it. I’m the classic pink-skinned perspiring Englishman....

thank you for the informative video. i know this is an older video but i would like to point out that using the phrasing "my english has gotten worse" when talking about adapting to another culture's dialect can sound a little rude. there are many variations of english around the world and them being different from british english doesn't make them worse, just different. i understand that you didn't mean that in a negative way, you seem like an open-minded and kind person, i just think it's worth it to be aware of the way you talk about other cultures especially when you immigrate to live in them.

Local here (*just watch your mustafa video) **For cable tie on plastic bag. The reason is to prevent shoplifting. If you wish to open, you can ask the security guard to open for you (they are allowed) Mustafa is the best place to get cheap branded, household and tourist stuff. Most of the branded stuff are 10% to 20% cheaper because they stock in bulk or off-season goods. (Eg: orient watch outside cost 220. But mustafa sells at 180) Dont worry, if you are unsure if is real or not. You can always ask the staff. (Been there my whole life never got scam) Another place to shop for your household items like shampoo or bodywash will be CK departmental store. (They usually stock their stuff a lot cheaper than supermarket like ntuc)

Thank you so much for all the tips! I may be moving to Singapore soon from San Francisco, due to their insane overobsession with everything else, rather than being productive and simply good people ... (Identify politics, I'm aiming at you, yeah!) Anyone else who moved from the Bay Area? What are your thoughts/experience?

Ive never been to Signapore but have a friend who went. I visited San Francisco, and for as liberal as they claim to be, I was turned off by the attitude of most people I met there. plus I am sure Singapore has much more to do..downtown San Francisco is small and reminds me of the stores in a typical mall. Singapore's combination of cultures makes it a unique place To visit.

Business (or "name") card etiquette is to present it to the other person with your name facing upright for the recipient with both hands. It's seen in the Asian culture as showing respect when giving or receiving something of yourself.

I love languages but Mandarin seems like such a challenge 😩 Do you think Malay is just as useful in Singapore, or do you think Mandarin would be best to learn if you’re living there?

I agree mandarin sucks 😭 but it is the most used language other than English (you can just don't learn it though, 99% know English)

You can adjust to the humidity somewhat, but it takes a little time and torturing yourself. Leave the air off and slowly begin to exercise outside, not in the air conditioned gym.

Love the title! Really looking forward to reading the e-book as I'm planning a trip there next summer. Partly going for tourism, also thinking about moving there for work perhaps. I've heard the summer is the nastiest time to be there because of the humidity, so I want to see if I can handle it. Congratulations on the new book! Cheers!

An informative and entertaining video - brought back lots of memories of living there. I wish someone had warned me about the epic proportions of the cockroaches and that some of them fly. 😬 And that it’s kind of normal to have a gecko chilling on your bedroom wall. 🦎
