One of mine is: When investing in relationships, pay attention to their values - especially watch how they treat others. If you think they are going to treat you differently, you're probably wrong.

Although I’m an older guy, trying to build up a side-hussle, there’s a lot of great take-aways here; knowing yourself, being authentic and building up genuine relationships - totally key

Building a relationship takes time. Talk to each other. Talking openly and honestly to each other is the most important thing in a relationship. You also have to be able to listen. As you said, be reliable. Micha from Germany

Daniel, this is one of the best of the videos that you published during past years, and I do believe Unique, Valuable, and Honest to listen to and implement. Although I am +60 years old but never is too late to follow true and effective advice! I have experienced all that you mentioned in this video, lost youth, money, time, and mind several and several times. As a professor, nowaday, as responsible for training my young visual arts students every day, still I wish I could have known these tips much earlier though, but this is life! however, I would share your video with my students for sure :) take care.

Always great Dan. I've been a huge fan for years now. Can you do a video about the state of the Photography industry right now? I'm keen to hear about what you think about AI as a tool, how to keep it new/interesting and what's next? All the best. - Jeff

Don't collect stuff, gear, books included. Be ready to bounce. And no debt. Default if you have to, who cares. Then you can walk. Just like in the movies. Keep a bare minimum of everything, and owe no one. Then, it's just you vs. the world. Learn to cook and don't go out unless someone else is paying you to, or if you want to capture something. Manage your addictions, we all have them. Cheers, and good luck. Get as many passports as you can too. And use them. Never lie, your character, brains, heart, and skills/vision is the only thing you have. Even if you disregard all the other shit. Know your limitations, acknowledge them, and work on expanding them. Never give up, and bill for your work. Love yourself, because no one does. Sorry, it's the truth. Props to Daniel for bringing this up. The solutions are not in an app. Really bad shit happens to everyone. Have a vision for that. Don't fake it ever, and be compassionate. Be a motivated bad ass person that wants to create, and you will. Just stay hungry and humble. That's it for the graduation speech. Meet the people you want to hang with in your mind. And listen to more jazz.

thank you Daniel, lovely way to share your knowledge. I will add sth that you mention but i will be a bit more specific. I think becoming a photographer is so much easier nowadays comparing to the analog times, that youngsters forget how much craft and knonwledge there is involved in being a professional. So my advice is to start by being an assistant, learn the craft rather than buying a camera and start making photos. In the long term it will be way much more valuable.

Experience boiled down to Wisdom! Not 20 anymore. But it feels good to come to similar conclusion. The one thing i would have to add in my list is always be ready to check if your "reality" is becoming a fixated believesystem. In worst case you might further believe it's the only truth worth defending and fight for the goals imminent as a consequence of the constructed "truth" in your head. It happens when one is identifying with the ideals, "the right thing". Issue is the question: "WHO am I?" Get rid of the "WHO" (not the band) and you can answer the remaining question with "yes!" We human need names to tell stories but we don't need names to exist. Unfortunatly most therapist i met dont get this one right imho. Occupied by the past memories and the future plans is when most miss the only thing true: the moment.

Thank you Daniel! Another excellent video which I will forward on to my 21 year old grandson Daniel. I really appreciate your common sense approach to building a career and life in general. Experience is the best teacher and it is very meaningful to listen to someone who has "walked the talk". Be well and all the best to you.

I'm a photographer who has been on and off photography for 15 years and I didn't have any good financial advice. I made at most 35k in one year and bought thousands of used gear and sold it and bout more and it's a cycle and I have fun with it all. I then started a handyman business because of all these cycles (it's working with my photography but I do think I should be focused on whAt I wanna shoot for. Id lo e to hear what I should be doing in like investing or basic models of selling or bidding. I learned that 500 events are too cheap and I should charge more along with portraits for 250. I honestly don't know what to charge beside if it pays the bills and buys day-cation (vacation) for my family on van trips. Though I'm paycheck to paycheck.... I dunno where to go besides buy more lights. Like right now I love scrims and shooting with the sun over my head or behind my back. Love to know your thoughts for people like me or in general we're going about things but not maybe seeing a retirement in photography
