Made sure we got on the right bus to go to the castle area, had a great conversation with a bus passenger who had just come from Houston - they always said "cheers" when we got change back and were basically the nicest people. Thanks wee lass for the videos.

I was in Edinburgh on vacation and it was very easy to get around. We just followed the guidemap that our hotel gave us. We also brought books on Edinburgh with us from home. We loved every moment that we spent in Edinburgh and we can wait to go back! Some of the places we loved visiting are Edinburgh castle, of course! Scottish parliament, the Royal Yacht Britannia, Dynamic Earth was amazing, and lots of great restaurants and shops. We have nothing but good things to say about Edinburgh. It's a lovely and elegant city and the people we're so friendly to us.

I had a tooth crown break the last time I was visiting Edimburgh (many years ago, in 1980), and spent my Saturday morning waiting at the local hospital's walk-in clinic where they eventually repaired it. The hospital staff were tremendously apologetic that they had to charge me 2 pounds 50, because I "wasn't a UK citizen" - quite the bargain because a similar repair here in the states probably would've cost me well over $100, even way back then. I'll always have fond memories of all the nice people we met in Scotland, Wales, and England across our touring! We stayed in Loch Lomond after Edinburgh, where years later our B&B land lady sent us a snail-mail post card to tell us her new address after she had moved - so we could find her the next time we visited. You have a most beautiful country!

Got to Edinburgh a day ahead of our scheduled tour so we could dispose with jet lag, and to have an extra day to explore. We found it impossible to use the little start map we found in a tourist brochure. Three times we pulled that thing out, and before we could get it oriented with the streets we were on - locals came up to volunteer directions (!). Went into a pub to get my haggis neeps, and tatties and the local at my elbow wanted to help the bartender with my choice of brews by offering me a taste of his (!) These folks are the best!

We watched your video before visiting Edinburgh and when we got there we recited your tips all the time. The fake-beggar thing espacialy helped us out. Or once we wanted to go from Grassmarket St to George IV bridge. That didn't work out cause it is above and we didn't want to climb. Although we were really tempted by your description to ask a Scot on Princes street where the castle is and film the reaction... Thx a lot for your informative and funny video! It enriched our stay in Edinburgh.!

It's a good thing I don't live in Edinburgh, 'cause I'd have entirely too much fun with that whole "where's the castle" thing. From the simple - * points in opposite direction of castle * "20 miles that way... ya can't miss it." To the complicated - "Castle? Oh, we don't have it anymore... Seems Mel Gibson liked it so much, after he filmed Braveheart, that he bought it and took it back to the U.S." To the silly - "Castle? It's right where we left it... unless it's not. It's kind'a come and gone, ever since they had the "Brigadoon" festival there a few years ago. I tried to tell 'em that it was a bad idea to have it there..." Yes, I have a mean streak... especially when it comes to dealing with the stupid. 😈 😈 😈

10 things not to do in America. 10. Do not flash cash and keep it in your front pocket. 9. When you are in one state, do not rave about another. Americans are very patriotic about their country, but more so about the state they live in. 8. Americans are for the most part are very kind, helpful, and happy people, but do not do well with condescending foreigners. When you are a guest in our country, just try to fit in the best you can and go with the flow. Americans love different accents, people from other countries, and people who share their countries laws, their people, their customs, traditions, and just information on their day and life in their country. We crave knowledge. 7. Do NOT talk about religion, politics, abortion, LGBT or give any advice on the subjects because it leads to hostility. 6. America is filled with different cultures, languages, ethnicities, and is made up of just about every nationality, so if you do not understand diversity or it makes you feel uncomfortable, the America is not the country you will want to visit. 5. America is a huge huge country, but most people will visit only the east and western coastal regions, thinking they represent the entire United States. Most Americans cannot stand that because most all states are very different and most states really dont like NY and California except for tourism. (little note: If there is ever a threat to America, we all love each other and become a united front). 4. Do not be a picky eater. When someone offers you food try it. We love trying a variety of foods (JUST TRYING, NOT LIKING OR FINISHING A PLATE OF IT). 3. Do not be plastic or act like someone your not. We will see right through it. Instead, just BE YOUR SELF and people will love you for who you are. 2. Do not go into the ghettos or gang areas 1. Don't be arrogant nor condescending. Do not even try to hint that your country is better than ours. Again, be friendly, learn all uou can and take it back with you and leave some knowledge here about yourself.

What do Scots think of Americans of Scottish descent wearing kilts in Scotland?
@eccremocarpusscaber51597 жыл бұрын
jimmykicker7775 to be honest it’s usually seen as a bit silly. Most Scottish men do not wear a kilt. So it’s always obvious if you are an American (especially) walking about being proud of your heritage. But nobody is stopping you!
@Cheezsoup6 жыл бұрын
@ jimmykicker7775 First thought on seeing a kilt 'Whur's the wedding'. Second "Ah cute a tourist." Pretty few people have a kilt, most just hire, and it is usually only worn for weddings, funerals etc. But one thing, very few would take any offence to this as long as you are decent(/covered as my granny would say) no one really cares what you are wearing . This isn't school were you would 'have your head handed to you' if your bag was the wrong colour . No one comments .

As always Mosco, super helpful and informative. I now have a proper game plan for what to do if I ever make it to Edinburgh: Step 1: Obtain proper local map (or better yet a sweet local KZbinr who appreciates shameless flattery from some witty Yanks :) Step 2: Immediately find a knife shop and purchase a cane sword or similar concealable stabby object capable of inspiring pant-shitting fear. Step 3: Finance trip by sitting near an ATM, waiting for less savvy tourists to withdraw large sums of cash, and brandish aforementioned stabby object to inspire their generosity and donate the cash to my wellbeing. Step 4: Find out where the nearest optometrist (eye doctor if you call something else) is to Princes Street and amuse self by directing idiots there if asked where the castle is.

i thought that Edinburgh was safer than Glasgow, so if im traveling alone in Edinburgh i would be in danger too?

brad duffy Depends where you are. Glasgow is very rough in some parts and so is Edinburgh, there are some dodgy people here. If you are walking alone at night in town or wester hailes or Leith you may get mugged
