I was in Ireland and asked a woman where the bus to Londonderry was. She said "I think you mean Derry". I said no my friends said Londonderry. She repeated but a little angrier. I then said, "yeah I'm pretty sure they said Londonderry". Her face turned beet red and she started to yell but a guy intervened and told me they were the same place and explained it. I apologized and said in America in New Hampshire there is both a Derry and a Londonderry which are two different places which is why I was confused. She didn't seem to accept the apology or my explanation and stormed off. She was also a redhead. I turned to guy and thanked him and said, that's probably who I was supposed to marry and I F'd it up. He said, "you might be right but you wouldn't have survived for long with that one".

@@resourcedragon I imagine there’s pockets everywhere. But in California where I live, there’s a lot of cussing. There is a generational separation on this as well.. there are moms and grandmas that you don’t cuss around, but my mother is in her eighties and I’ve never really held my tongue in my adult years and as she’s gotten older her usage of these words has increased. The kids are exceptionally foul mouthed and as far back as I can remember it’s always been that way.

lol one time I said "top of the mornin'" to an Irish person. That person got so mad. I'm from rural Alberta, Canada and my family is from an Irish community in Ontario. It's how we talk. I never thought of it as being an Irish greeting. Like if I go for a walk with my dog I often have people walk by and say "top of the mornin'". So if the person is from Canada and says it to you they might just be talking rural Canadian not meaning to sound Irish lol. I'm pretty certain the term came to Canada from England.
