alonelonely4ever That's the stupidest statement I've ever heard in my life. I feel like non binary is when one wants to be a hybrid of both male and female and wants to pick and choose which characteristics to display. Maybe wants to be both male and female? If one were really non binary then they would have be a totally different species. You can't really escape the two established genders and sexes.
@nevaeh83997 жыл бұрын
WRONG! There are only 2 sexes. There are only two types of genitalia. However gender is a whole different thing. it comes from more of a social standpoint and how you feel inside. Why should someone be forced to act like someone who they are not? Sometimes people just can't help feeling uncomfortable in their own body. I get where you are coming from. I was raised to beleive that "god" made you to be just they way you were born. Raised that being gay was wrong. Be i have seen peoples veiws on this and now am non binary and pansexual myself. i hope this helped.

@carsonfball46 жыл бұрын
@Jake Dean >> So how can you be transgender if you're also non-binary?! Trans is an umbrella term with many identities under it (including non-binary). Non-binary is also an umbrella term meaning any gender that is not the two that first jump into many peoples heads when they think gender. Many non-binary people (myself included) also use the term trans (because non-binary is a sub-label under trans). Some non-binary people do not use the word trans to describe themselves. I hope that was clear. If not, let me know.

Sabrina Avila Hi! I am non binary as well and I recently read a book by Marshall Rosenberg called “Nonviolent Communication” that has really been a game changer for me when I try to tell people about my preferred pronouns. What I usually say to close friends and family who still use she/her pronouns for me is this, “Would you like to know a way to better connect with me and support my need for respect and self-expression?” If yes, “Would you be willing to refer to me using they/them pronouns from now on? As in “they went to the store” instead of “she went to the store”.” I hope this helps! 😊💖

@truemakale8 жыл бұрын
Yasper Madmoon "trans" as a root word also carries the meaning of "across". For example, the TPP, "trans-Pacific Partnership" stretches across the ocean. So it would seem reasonable for someone to claim the "transgender" label if their gender experience stretches "across" the gender spectrum, don't you think?

D Thompson And there is only two genders, bunch of clothes and a personality! I identify as a male, I dress cool/badass mostly and I have a bubbly personality!♥ :) I do not have to use ton of made up labels for genders when I can show my true personality!
@truemakale8 жыл бұрын
Yasper Madmoon yes, helicopters, boats, planes, bicycles, skateboards etc are made in part for "trans" (across) "port" (carry) "-ation" (noun ending). That is, carrying an object across distance. Is that odd? As to your assertion that there are only two genders, it is certainly the case that most modern Americans until recently have used the word "gender" as a synonym for sex and, yes, setting aside the fairly rare instance of intersexed individuals the vast majority of people are born as one of two *sexes*. But more and more I think it's clear that many people would like to make a clear distinction between our biology (sex) and our cultural expressions (gender). And obviously there are many many different ways we can express ourselves culturally through our mannerisms and what we wear so I think it makes sense that as some people try to build communities among those who feel and behave similarly they will come up with various labels for themselves. Some labels probably will fade out of use, but some will probably stick. Language, especially language surrounding cultural identity ebbs and flows. You could deride the term "African-American" for example on the basis that all modern human species originated on the African continent, so if we could all trace our lineage back far enough all of us in the US would theoretically be "African-Americans", but to pretend that that is how most people use the term is to be needlessly and obviously obtuse. Basically, if any label succeeds at communicating a set of shared characteristics to those who hear it then it will be useful and persist, and if not, it won't. Of course, if you have a word besides "non-binary" that you think succinctly captures the idea of people who through their clothing, mannerisms, etc embody a contradiction in our mainstream notions of gender, feel free to use it and argue that others use it too. Through time society collectively will decide if it merits persistent widespread usage. :)
@yms43558 жыл бұрын
D Thompson If it's cultural, why did gays and transgender people in conversion therapy got themselves in great pain and suicide? If gender would entirely be cultural, those factors would be working.

Just because I'm non binary doesn't mean I have to be androgynous.. This all day this. I've always been seen as very female. Because my look is very feminine. But mentally I do not see my self as purely female. I feel I am truly in the middle .. not male fully .. not female fully. This has lead to issues in my relating to others as some people just don't get how I relate to them.. or I don't relate like they would expect me to.

Every time I hear someone say they’re non-binary and they get into it, all it boils down to is “I don’t fit the roles and expectations of being a man/woman. I just wanna be myself.” that is actually pretty backwards. You don’t have to be masculine and fill the “male role” to be a man, nor be feminine and fill the “female role” to be a woman. Being trans is a medical condition. Being non-binary is ideological. You can be a feminine man, a masculine woman, and inbetween, that doesn’t means you’re trans or non-binary. It just means you have a personality.

Hey I'm a trans woman and have been very open and really trying to understand non binary alot more , I understand the general aspect of what it means , a person who doesn't identify with being a traditional man or woman wether your cis or trans, the part I can't get my head around is if for example your a non binary person and you still identify as what we know as a stereotypical man or woman then how are you non binary? I know gender expression is different its beyond the clothes you wear and masculine and feminine are traits people have regardless of your gender or sexuality , I get it, but this concept of being a person that does not deem themselves as a man or woman but doesn't actively identify as such (non binary being a gender identity) authentically, I just dont understand why you wouldn't actively attempt to look like someone who isnt a man or woman cause the question then is ,what does non binary look like? I hope that makes sense and I'm not a hater or a bigot I'm a binary trans woman that's really trying so hard to understand I'm not trying to upset anyone I think you two are lovely people and the world just needs time to get there heads around being non binary it's not something that will go away so keep fighting, silence equals death I'm supportive all the way just still misunderstood about alot of it and I want to understand more ❤

But why non binary? Why not sexism? I am a woman who wore a shirt and jeans and studied Physics - something that would not have been dreamed of 100 years ago. Now if someone criticized this, people would say 'that's sexist! why can't a woman do these things?' My point is: If a woman can wear trousers, why can't a man wear dresses? Isn't that just sexist?
