Only been to Berlin once, also for my cliché Berghain visit, but I'll try to solve . 1. Wedding is seen as uncool at the moment, but which neighborhood is considered cool changes every couple of years. 2. poor people collect bottles for the deposit of 8-25 cents in every city in Germany. Leaving them beneath trash cans is just a nice gesture to ease the collection. 3. There's bubble gum everywhere as Berlin can be filthy. 4. Getting rid of stashes of your old stuff would require waiting for weeks until it gets picked up in front of your house. Berliners are filthy, so they often leave loads of unwanted stuff for poor people to pick it up and decorate their homes with. 5. Germans would say "Ich bin Berliner", the way it was said it means I'm a filled donut, but only outside of Berlin, so everybody still understood what Kennedy meant. 6. With many poor people there, many don't pay for public transportation and try to evade ticket inspectors. 7. The Matrix is considered a lame tourist trap. Cool Berliners dont want tourist to spoil the coolness of their preferred clubs. 8. People take a lot of drugs at parties and do it on the toilets on their phones. Most likely coke, since it's slightly funny when it numbs your gums. 9. The party scene is very extreme and sexual. Many women assumed I wanted to have sex instead of just wanting to dance, more than in any other city in Germany. Orgies are a lot more common there.
@captainsubtext74463 жыл бұрын
3. in the clubs you usually get a little sticker on your phones camera.... 9. is connected to 8. no one really goes to the toilet to pee, instead groups go together to snort. otherwise not bad.
@harrythej96833 жыл бұрын
@@captainsubtext7446 Daaaamn, of course. I completely forgot about the sticker on my phone in Berghain. Took it off my phone on the toilet to take and send a picture and somehow felt guilty about it. Was also really surprised that the bouncer checked me really thoroughly for drugs (which nobody had warned me bout), which I luckily had stashed in my shoe for the first time out of a unexplainable hunch. As for the snorting, I assumed it wasn't that, because you never have more than four people in one stall, but it does make far more sense. Thanks for the correction. For those that don't get it: (my guesses - I am German but not from Berlin) 1. The girl's part of Berlin (Wedding) is very far away from all the other parts of the city. It takes forever to get there, no one wants to go there. 2. Bottle collectors get 15 cents for returning that bottle. You leave them next to the bin so people can pick them up easier. Club Mate is a very popular drink among the young and cool. 3. Some clubs require people to put stickers on their phone camera so people don't take photos inside the clubs. You get kicked out if you remove the sticker. 4. Boxes of free stuff are often put out on the street. You don't want to be caught putting it out. 5. Berliner are actually edible pastries. See the one shown. 6. Less people on the other train, always nicer. 7. Always a debate going on about what the best and still somewhat unknown club is in Berlin. 8. Phones are generally used to take drugs and he had some drugs (prob speed or ketamine) left on his phone. Don't want that to go to waste. 9. Lot's of misconceptions here! I'm not German but have lived in Berlin for quite a while. Here is the truth: 1. There just are no clubs, restaurants, art or anything exciting to do in Wedding hence it's considered soulles. It is on the ringbahn so accessability is absolutely not a problem, there's just no reason to go, I've been there twice purposefully, motivation was a house party at my old colleagues party and I live two stops away on the ring in Prenzlauer Berg. 2. Club Mate is a popular drink in Berlin and you always leave the bottle next to the trash can so that it is easy for anyone in need to find (it is worth 15cnt because it has a pant) and it pick up. 3. All good clubs do this. There are many clubs that don't but they aren't the special ones, while not exactly unique, but characteristic to Berlin. 4. Is a bit weird as I'd say in general especially anywhere in East Berlin it's completely cool to leave a "Zu verschenken" (to give away) box onto to the street. Also furniture. If they are in anyway usable condition generally people collect all of it quite quickly. Many people decorate their apartments basically completely with things given away for free. Especially in the wealthy areas of Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg, people give away really nice stuff just by dropping it to the street or in the corridor of the building. And you don't always need to grab it from the street, people also post stuff online for free A LOT. People simply think it's a nice thing to do and they get rid of it faster as people are kinda relaxed with money, also the wealthy ones. There's also a lot of community spirit in general. Worst condition items are eventually collected by the city when they clean the streets at quite irregular intervals. I don't know anyone who lives far in the West Berlin but I've heard that for example in Charlottenburg for example this would not be acceptable as it is kinda the tidy part of Berlin. 5. The video is completely silly for a Berliner because the pastry that is called Berliner elsewhere is actually called Pfannkuchen here. 6. Most likely a tactical move to avoiding ticket inspectors without still interrupting your journey as they work in small teams and only check one carriage at a time. It is common for people who know the city to ride without a ticket as they work kinda systematic so you can minimise the risk effectively when you know their working hours and "hotspot" lines. But the risk is there so sometimes you need to react as the fine is quite heavy 60e, you have a lot of fun in this city with that money. 7. Matrix is literally the worst possible club in Berlin where no one who knows anything about Berlin clubs would ever go. Berliners troll turists who don't appear cool (note the polo-shirt) by recommending it to them so that they wouldn't slip through a door by accident into a good club. Even when faced with this initially, if you'd argue a Berliner and show knowledge about a good club and/or passion for electronic music (I don't say techno as there are also amazing clubs that are not techno focused, but more house, progressive, minimal etc) in general, most likely you'd then actually get useful advice on describing the music and the crowd, when the queue is the shortest and/or the club is the emptiest as the bouncers losen up the door policy at empty hours etc. 8. Yeah, basically helping to kick start the morning by microdosing the residuals left over on the phone screen from doing drugs last night, pragmatic as the screen needs to be cleaned anyway to operate the phone properly 9. Typically crazy and diverce Berliner crew is exiting the toilet after consuming drugs together. It can be surprising how many people can fit in a toilet. Also, basically in all house parties people are doing drugs. Sometimes there can be more conservative people around so the others do it in a toilet simply to be polite but still have fun as they prefer as taking most types of drugs is generally socially acceptable in Berlin. Berliners are skilled in squeezing the absolute maximum number of people into a toilet at once as it's convenient for many friends to go at the same time as it is considered a social event in its own right. A Berghain toilet fits something like more than 8 in my experience. This is how you also get to know new people better when partying.
