All so true and it even applies to bigger birds as well. In my personal opinion after having owned 2 cockatiels, 4 budgies, a Senegal and a Blue headed Pionus, I can say with certainty that budgies are the best species to own ever. They are cheap to maintain, yes the beaks do hurt but not as much as bigger beak especially during hormones or moulting, they are quiet even though they constantly chatter and do not shut up but when you have a cockatiel constantly flock calling, a Senegal screaming because she does not want you giving attention to any other bird but her and a Pionus doing its ritual sunrise and sunset calls, you are greatly appreciative of the little budgies sound capability. They are every bit as interesting as the bigger birds and if I did have to restart my flock, I would go with only male budgies. They truly are the sweetest little birds and so colorful. A bite that will barely break skin as opposed to a bite from macaw/cockatoo that might leave you in the ER. Big birds are way to overhyped and more of a status thing. Truly the better pets are the little budgies with all their spunk,sass and attitude, you honestly don't need more from a bird.

Nooo I was enjoying the conversation. But yeah, I give mine a mix of harrissions and zupreem pellets, Amazon is a saint. It makes seed more valuable for the birdies so bonding, playtime, and training is easier. They love their pellet as well though, so it's not like they have a bad deal :p

Hi, I was just wondering how you got you budgies so tammed, like how they just trust you so much.I have just rescued a budgie and she's not very comfortable around us.We rehomed her as her previous owner wasn't treating her probably.But she's just not settling in she just doesn't trust us. It just takes a lot of time & patience. Slow as you can go. Look up on youtube Flock talk Marlene McCohen Parrot Wizard & RESEARCH all you can. Start very slow & find his favorite treats. The secret to *tame* is actually *trust* then comes the bonding. Wish you & your budgie the BEST!

My budgie won't eat anything but seeds. I gave him a strawberry. Nothing. Budgies like to shred paper towels? Nope. Not my budgie. How about a mirror or a swing. He's afraid of them. A cuttlebone? Won't go near it. Being sprayed with warm water? Maybe: he jumps around and gets excited, but after a few seconds he runs away. What does he like to do? He'll sit on my finger inside the cage, and he likes it when I move him around in circles. If I leave the cage open he will fly away to a corner and look lost and helpless until I put his cage nearby. Then he'll sit there for an hour and stare at it before finally going back inside. He likes music; starts chirping and trilling immediately. He likes to flap and molt feathers. Recently he's started going extremely puffy, almost spherical. I guess that's a good sign. He also acts like he wants to talk, but doesn't. He also won't play with any of the toys I put in his cage: he's afraid of the ladder and the colorful wooden thing with the bell on the bottom. He avoids them both. If I put him on his ladder, he'll freak out and go nuts.

I got my budgie to eat fruits and veggies by dipping them in water first then letting them drink the water off of it. Soon they will get curious enough to take a nibble of it ^^ Here's some other methods if that doesn't work.. 1.) Dip the food into water and then into either his/her seed mix or his/her millet. 2.) Get a stick of millet and mush up the food you want your bird to eat. Next, rub the mushed food onto the millet stick and eventually they will eat it :) 3.) (Not reccomend but works) Remove all food and treats from cage for 30 minutes to an hour-(do not go for longer). Their scavenging instincts will kick in and they will be more likely to eat the food of choice. I'd reccomend disguising the fruit or veg in millet or seed first tho. 4.) Chop the fruit or veg into small bits to disguise it as seed then, add it to their main food bowl or offer it inside your hand. *T I P S* 1.) Remove all treats from cage and save them for bonding time or when you're feeding fruits. Budgie nibbles at the fruit or veg? Give them a bite of millet and continue. 2.) (Only works if you have a strong bond) Eat the food in front of budgie. This will show budgie that the food is safe and they will get curious and take a bite. (WARNING: Don't let them bite off the area you did, human and cat saliva is toxic to birds and can make them very sick!! It is recommended to give them a whole other piece to dramatically drop the odds.) 3.) Pin it inside their cage or by their favorite toy. This also works if you remove the toy completely and put it in it's place (the fruit or veg being in reach of course!) 4.) If you regularly feed your budgie with treats to get them to perch up on your finger then try it with the fruit or veg instead of millet. If they still dont want to be any part of it then you can try covering it in water, millet, or their seed mix. *S T A R T E R F O O D S* _I started out with the following.._ 1.) Lettuce Lettuce was oddly enough my bird's first non seed food. He was obsessed with it and got agressive after I moved my hand out of reach though! It is reccomend that you only feed it in small amounts because it is a very watery food and can cause watery, messy droppings. It also has little to no nutritional value for birds, it's just good for it's taste. Method used: dipping it in water 2.) Carrot A great starter food with lots of nutrients and vitamins!! Method used: Chopping it up into small pieces 3.) Broccoli (both stalk and flowers) Looks kinda like seed and has amazing nutrients! By far my bird's favorite food! Method used: dipping it in water 4.) Banana (without peel) A good and tasty treat for your bird! My bird's favorite fruit! Method used: hang in cage 5.) Apple (no stems or seeds) Amazing new texture for their beak to bite into! Great for decreasing the odds of biting due to the interesting feel. Method used: chopped into small pieces Remember that your bird needs 60-65% grains (pellets, seed, etc), 5-10% fruits, and 30% veggies ^^ Hope this helps!
