so having style is being yourself, trying something bold and don't care about if it's ugly or other people will like it? i think this is the healthiest and most fun approach to fashion i've ever heard.
@anthonyd984411 ай бұрын
Yeah! At the end of the day, thats what true style is all about. It's easy to get distracted by brands trying to say whats trendy or in demand in order to sell you product, but once you look past all that you see style is really about the self. It's not about what brand your wearing, its about thoughtfully sharing your personality or mood with others. The best accessory anyone can wear is confidence.

@@nagisakobayashiAGHHH I love red tights soo much, everyone who wears them instantly looks cool in my opinion. I 100% agree with wearing things that are “not flattering” sometimes the best outfits are the ones that are baggy on baggy and swallow you in the fabrics or skin tight ones that hug every bit of cellulite. Fashion is a great way to make your insecurities beautiful

so many of these speak to confidence! i recently bought a pink frilly top that my whole family hates (they're nice about it lol) and the realisation that i really didn't care made me realise how i dress for myself now. my approach to clothes used to come from such a place of wanting to blend in and mask my insecurities. my happiness in an outfit is finally beating my anxiety about what other people might think. here's to making other people stop and think "that's weird" 🥰

Talking about straight men comments, i sure have a lottt to say. Once i was told by a guy that i wouldn't die if i get pushed off a cliff as i can spread my oversized clothes to fly. The very same set of clothes got me a "oh she's such a model" comment from an older female. Another instance where i got asked as to why i wore a blanket to work (it was a long warm coat), the ladies having lunch with the guy jumped in to say i looked stylish in it. Another one where my cousin brother asked me if I'd borrowed papa's clothes, my fashion-conscious cousin sister told me she owns very similar clothing to mine. 😂

Is it just me, or have women (in general) gotten less catty toward each other? When I was younger, girls were a LOT more ruthless and quick to put other women down for their appearance. Feels like maybe the whole "women empowering women" internet shit has actually kinda worked? Yes ik there's still mean girls around, but feels like it's not as popular to act like that (AKA "pick me" girls, "one of the guys" girl, "cool girl" described in Gone Girl, etc) OR could just be that I'm older and not an immature teen anymore LOL.

I have a funny story related to the straight man thing. I've always dressed more conservatively and in slightly looser-fitting clothes because that's just what I like, and in a conversation about style I once told my mom "I don't dress for The Male Gaze." she just paused and went, "well no shit you don't dress for gay guys!" 🤣 but yeah, other girls compliment me all the time. even on things like my tattoos and makeup that straight men NEVER remark on
@alien_cult Жыл бұрын
LOL. Similar story here-- an ex-friend once said I was "too focused on the male gaze" and when I asked my parents if they agreed, they were like, "......She hates you because you think about gay guys too much?" Hahah. Once my parents understood what I meant, they said, "...But you dress in baggy clothes and have never been interested in dating..."

Delighted I hit every style factor you described and I even double down on those factors. For example, I not only have jackets in a variety of colors, often the variety of colors appear in one jacket. Or I don't just wear a hat, I wear the largest hat anyone can imagine on my small frame. So, thank you for affirming me hard in this video. Also, it's funny about the straight male insults. I'd add that the insults usually comes from people without style and I always chalked it up to envy :D That's why dressing for oneself and your supportive homies is the best.

my 2024 challenge to myself is to start dressing more for myself and less for others. last month, i wore a dress over jeans (i know its revival was a sort of trend in fashion for a while, but in my university everyone wears basics and so did i, so it was a huge step for me) and "gaudy" earrings. even though i was initially so self-conscious, i guess i found fun in dressing a bit differently from others... it kinda feels like trolling in a sense? for the longest time i had dressed as much as possible to be flattering but not to grab attention and offend other people's sensibilities. cultivating your own personal style, i find, is both an exercise in bravery (to not care about the opinions of others) as much as it is about self-expression
