A short video discussing the gear I always have in my day pack when out on the hill. Perhaps that should be most of the gear I always carry...well, at least some.

"What's the point if you can't have a brew?" Right on the money! Nice setup, covers the basics well. Cheers!

Compass? Map? Head torch? Safety/strobe light? Spare socks?

You clearly didn’t read the blurb, but no matter. Compass and map never in my pack but on my person. I will grant you a head torch, there always is one but I missed it in this instance. Never carry strobes etc and spare socks usually but not always. I appreciate your rigour and candour, makes posting videos worthwhile

@@fadingmargins I like carrying a small strobe (usually one made for a bicyclist) if I might be walking on roads at dusk or after dark. And...with a good adventure...I never know if after dark is an option. I pop one on the back of my pack so vehicular traffic coming up behind me knows I'm there. I tend to keep my compass in my pack, usually in the top pocket, but do often carry a small compass on a lanyard 'round my neck. That little compass has kept me out of trouble a couple of times. Had a good friend and hiking buddy who got stuck out in the mountains in Colorado in the dark without a torch. He used his mobile phone as a light for a while, until the battery died. Then he realized he had no light and no communication. He had brought a date along for the trip. I think that was their last date out. Not sure if he learned the lesson, but I sure did: you won't impress your dates by getting lost in the mountains and killing your phone. And, second lesson, it is always a good idea to carry a head torch or illumination or some sort. 😉👍
