I moved to Perth from Sydney in the late 1990s, primarily because my Perth-born wife thought it was a better place to raise a family. Somewhat reluctantly I moved from my hometown, but it was one of the best things I've ever done. Perth is a wonderful place to raise a young family. Its weather, laid-back lifestyle, booming economy, wide open spaces, excellent education and health facilities convinced me then, and they remain today.

They are going to love traveling south and north of Perth. WA has some of the most beautiful scenery in Australia. Feeding dolphins at the beach, Massive trees south of Perth and some beautiful streams waterfalls and beaches north of Perth.

Perth is probably the most British city in Australia. I grew up here, my family came from England. Most of my friends at school were either born in the UK, or their parents were born in the UK. Because of that, the sense of humour in Perth tends to be a bit different to what you find in the eastern states. There are a helluvalot of South Africans in Perth too. It is a very wealthy city but far cheaper than Sydney and Melbourne. The south-west of WA is one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Plus, flights to Bali and other parts of SE Asia are dirt cheap. And you can jump onto a non-stop flight to London and Rome.

I've been in Perth since the early 80s and only seen a snake a handful of times. There are usually caution signs if a snake has been sighted on a trail or beach. But snakes are afraid of ppl. Only strike when they feel threatened. If you stay away from shrubs and bushes you'll be fine. Queensland is the snake capital of Australia that they even have a tv series on catching snakes. Your kids will love Perth and exploring rest of WA and Australia. Definitely check out the pink lake and spend a few days in Kalbarri.

Lovely family! Must warn you, trying to find beach parking spot in summer is a nightmare! Good news, you won’t find a snake inside in Perth as long as the kids keep the doors closed. Lived in Perth 45 years before I saw my first snake! Red backs live in the high corners of eaves or garden fences. They won’t touch you. I’ve found the odd spider inside (not red back) but all small.

There are many Poms in Perth as it is closer to England. Little do many they realise, when they plan to live there, that Perth is the most isolated city in the world, far away from the rest of Australia. It's wealth is mainly built on the mining industry.

If it’s a simple vision issue go to the chemist/pharmacy they have a range of + vision from 0.5+ to about 3.5+ , also shop second hand we have pretty high standards for second hand goods to get you started go to op shops etc to begin with upgrade as necessary.

My son in law is from Coventry....when he went back to the UK to finish Uni( before he was SIL), when he arrived he rang me from Birmingham to let me know he was there safely.....his comment was..."I want to come home!" He now lives south of Perth with my daughter and grandson. He will not go back to the UK except for visits.

Ballsy move guys. My wife came over here from UK in 83. Hope it's all good for you. [She's still here 😄] OK, in Perth, you go to the beach in the morning during summer generally. Most afternoons the Fremantle Doctor makes it bloody unpleasant.... unless you're a wind or kite surfer.... Best beach? Mullaloo. imo... Ross, Perth isn't as much of an insular hicktown as you think. We did hear about Tina Turner, wall to wall coverage, we even get UK politics 😀

Same issue boiling over in Canada. We've had more immigrants in the last two years than in the last twenty. Nowhere to live, and what there is is ridiculously expensive in Toronto, Vancouver, even Calgary. Government acts stunned, then the provincial governments blame the federal government and nothing gets done. It's a population problem in the world's second largest country.

Welcome, I emigrated from Scotland 40 years ago, on my own. It’s the best decision I ever made. I married an Australian and have 3 beautiful children. I’m sure if you do a cost benefit analysis in 12 months the cost to get here will have been worth it. Try and make lots of friends it really helps. Travel to UK from Perth is less expensive than East Coast. I think it so brave of you to come with 4 children and offer them a wonderful life. Good luck 👏

I live in Perth and am staying in an Airbnb in Cambridge atm! It's lovely here. Great bicycle culture. I walked to Grantchester. Gorgeous walk and a beautiful spot. However I'm missing home. Tent doors and windows for camping are zip-up to stop the creepy-crawlies getting in. Travelling interstate in Oz will cost as you are living in the most isolated capital city in the world. Please remember to protect yourselves from the Aussie sun - slip, slop, slap, wrap and seek. The Earth's Southern Hemisphere tilt closer to the Sun for Australia makes the Sun's rays very harsh. Oz has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world for Caucasian skin types. Our Australian CULTURE is different to the UK. Also, in my city of Melbourne ,there are over 200 different ethnicities so it is very multi-cultural. My parents and two older siblings emigrated to Oz in the early 1950s. I'm sooo glad that they did ! Prepare to loose your English accents, kids, for Aussie ones ! Get used to long distance travel - Aussies do it all the time.

Tell the kids our chocolate tastes different cos its got stuff in it to stop it melting too quick. But its also cos our milk is different too and I guess the chocolate beans are different too. All sorts of reasons.. I guess we're used to it or dont know different. Ive had English chocolate too but I didnt really notice the difference

Like you my parents were always telling us we’re going to Australia. Years later we finally did migrated to Perth. 40 years later it was the best decision my parents made. I own my home mortgage free. I’m now winding down to retirement in a great jobs what more can I ask for. Went back to the UK in September 2023 I realised how lucky I am to be living in Perth.

Welcome to Perth. Hopefully it has been good for you. You have probably found houses and locations but I would say that it seems to me that many British ex-pats are in Mandurah (South of Perth) and i the northern suburbs. In case you have not been there yet, Lancelin is a good place to go for a visit as well as the usual spots south of Perth. I grew up in Geraldton (north of Perth) so heading north is probably better option for longer trips as the distances can be prohibitive. Enjoy and hope you have a great one.
