I used to volunteer at a soup kitchen. I saw how they made soup/stew by dumping potatoes and canned vegetables and grey meat and junk into a pot, and I was like why don’t we just separate this into an edible plate and salt it a little less? She was literally enraged to the point of turning red at the idea that someone would ruin her passive aggressive attack on the poor. Like literally it would be CHEAPER to serve real food but they refused. Some psychopaths work in kitchens, I swear.

The sausage on bread is AMAZING. Here in South Australia we call them sausage sizzles. They are delicious and Bunnings (basically the Aussie Home Depot) would always have a sausage sizzle stand outside the building. They are a classic for Christmas barbeques (Australian Christmas is in Summer.) If you had a school barbeque, this would be all they would serve. Some schools even served both beef and kangaroo meat. They are cheap, delicious, easy to cook, easy to serve, and dont tick of any common allergies. These things are delicious (aslong as the bread is soft not slightly stale.) Everybody I know LOVES these. Deliciousness in 3 minutes and $1.28 aud.

I work in food service, and i have to say thay canned green beans are some of the best things I've ever eaten. I would honestly enjoy them with any sort of fancy meal because my palate processes them as fancy enough.

Bro, my old school used to have amazing lunch options. Looked good, tasted good and the desserts were probably the highlight. They had these caramel filled churros once and they were BANGIN! Then they took away all the epic desserts and the food overall became more and more depressing, aside from the pizza and these little pancakes you could get as a snack

In a Canadian Public Elementary School, we never had lunches like these, mainly because we are in our classrooms for the lunch break (And my school was practically in the middle of nowhere, so that could also be a reason why). The closest we got was hot lunches on Friday, it would always be hotdogs, pizza (ordered from a restaurant nearby), and one other item, most years it was 6-inch Subway subs, that would alternate every week, and every second lunch break would be when they served the milk (which would also be when the served the hot lunches) and when someone who was supposed to get a hot lunch or milk, most of the time it would be just given out (most of the time it was whoever was friends with the absent kid). It was fun just seeing every kid's hand shoot up as soon as they asked "who wants it." And I never ate anything from my highschool aside from a pizza slice and a large cookie. The cookies was good, and the pizza was also ordered from outside the school.

As a Canadian, we also ate packed lunches in our classrooms, but we didn’t do the Friday thing. Sometimes they would send out these order forms for like Subway, or these little pizza things, but usually it was just what we packed in a lunchbox.

This reminds me of the hard boiled eggs. They would just--change colors. Also the milk was WACK. I would have these weird sensations in my throat as if I'm swallowing cubes for like the next 10 minutes. The slushy part you mention was also true, except at our schools it's always with the juice.

Once my friend bit into her chicken tender in elementary school and found a bone inside. Needless to say, I never ate the school's chicken again. My school always had the juice and milk in a freezer sort of thing, and they were always halfway frozen so we'd get free ice cream and slushies.

From Elementary to the beginning of High School, a lot of the food they gave us were actually pretty decent, yeah it wasn’t great for us but for a long while our foods looked and tasted like actual food. …until my last four years of high school where everything just was sad excuses, there was even a broken piece of a corn dog stick inside the wiener, had I not noticed I would’ve likely I choked to death. The quesadillas looked like something out of a horror movie…and I’d always go back for seconds… 😂

honestly, props to lunch ladies though!! that cannot be a forgiving job, and because of all the mandates, they know that they can't serve appetising food, but a lot of them still try to make it fun! they work because they like feeding people! they also don't really have a choice because if they don't have a certain amount of lunches sold/got, it comes out of their paycheck, and sometimes they get let go from it. loves to lunch ladies all around!!!

Occasionally there was good food at my school but it was rare. The sausage was alright but the best thing they had were the hot wings. But they stopped serving them. My friends and I used to get them and in the group, we were playfully racist towards each other with them. The group consisted of me and my friend TJ (two of the whitest people ever), and my friends Alexis and Tori (Alexis was Asian and Tori was mixed). Me and TJ could handle the spice but Alexis and Tori couldn't and we used to give them shit for it 😂😂😂

My school food has always been decent, never any of these. Right now, I’m in high school and we have two different cafeteria lines, one side I swear all the food is burnt, and not good and crusty, but the other side you can make your own sandwich (kinda like subway?) or you could chose the special, which is always okay, a lot of the time we have nachos.

In Middle School, they serve us Mac & Cheese and a Biscuit. And first, the top of the Mac & Cheese had this rubbery sauce top, and below it was literally lava, because the cheese was so hot. And when they served us the biscuit, they would put it on top of the Mac & Cheese Bowl which made the bottom of the biscuit all cheesy. And the honey I had like one or two times because was like the lunch lady took candle wax and melted it and put yellow food coloring in it. I thought bees made honey, but apparently candle makers do.

School lunches in uk are... ok. We had these pizzas with these weird seasonings on them and they looked like an uneven and elongated normal pizza. I mean... at least we enjoyed them. I remember having this pie of some sort with a pea on top and as a reception kid (kindergarten in USA) I was disturbed, and I still am heavily confused. Then we had this chicken tikka curry which was flavourless, not much to say about that. A Sunday dinner that we had like three days of the week that was drowned in gravy so you could barely see what you were eating, and I remember pouring a plate of this down myself as a little kid and the lunch lady used one of those grimy cloths they use to clean the fold out tables with to wipe my pinafore dress. (One time I went into the old changing rooms nobody goes into and saw two full washing lines of these cloths all pink, green and blue, it was weird and smelt like bathroom disinfectant) The ice cream that was always in these little styrofoam tubs with a plastic lid that all of us little kids would fight for. And the water that was in these tiny plastic cups and this one kid always stacked his dirty cup with the clean ones, so all the girls would cry because they thought they would get rabies. And the amount of water spillages that happened on the tables, and the lunch hall would always run out of paper towels so the kids would have to run down the corridor and get some from the classroom, while the rest of us cheered and watched the water flow along the table, wondering how far it would go. It was always hectic. 😂

My school was very small only like 200 or 300 kids but half the school packed lunches unles it was Thursday. Thursday the school got pizza from our local pizza shop. And that is something I will never forget it was amazing! They were in business for over 60 years but just shut last year😢

Here in my school we can bring money and buy our food ranging from fried rice to curry noodles and we even had little snacks that we could buy for like fifty cents and we have a stall where we had fries, fried chicken, spring rolls, and fried dumplings and we have steamed buns and we also have a drink section where we can get juice, soda, and even ice lemon tea! I don’t know what schools you all are going to but if you compared the food from your school to mine you would definitely prefer the food from the school I go to, at this point I feel like when I go to the cafeteria they actually serve us restaurant level foods.

Here are mine 1. Pizza. Oh my god the CHEESE the CHEESE. It was so thick that my friends put all their cheeses on my pizza and I SWEAR i did not notice. Plus the sauce was like, frozen to the dough and it tasted like spicy tangerine water- 2. The EGG SANDWICHES. Idk why this is even a food. Like, Caroline would be complaining about the fact that it's ice cold, so they started giving it to us WARM. Aka, the bread is sizzling down and turning into juice while the egg is a FROZEN ROCK that haunts my throat and stomach with chills for years. 3. The rice. Straight up chunks of bird poop, solid and oh my god it was GRAINY. GRAINYYYYYY 4. The peas. I bit into one and it was white like PURE WHITE, and they would overload the plates with it LIKE WHAT, MRS AALIYAH MS KATRINA PLS FIX THIS 5. The beef. The same day Eva lost all her rubber band hairties we got this for lunch. And I ended up throwing about 95% into the trash cuz it was so rubbery-i can't 6. Zig-zag fries. Idk what these had in them, they tasted like all them recycled water bottles mooshed up together, mixed with snake shjt with -10000 salt level 7. The Snack Pack puddings. Okay I admit these were good at times, but at my old school, the milky juice was on top making a LAYER and we still ate them happily 8. The milk. It was colored water flavored with piss and spit. Once this girl Maria, took a dare to have two boys swish water in their mouths, and spit it all into an empty milk container, and the other was milk, and Maria would have to try and see which was spit and which was milk. She couldn't tell them apart. 9. The nacho cheese. I swear I took cheese and it looked like a DAMN BOOGER AND TASTED THE SAME I HAD TO THROW IT AWAY, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT COLE, THE HOT CHEETO KID, THREW UP

My high school had soda vending machines in the cafeteria, but they were time-locked so that they didn't work until after school each day. Not sure what the reason for that was. "We're okay with you drinking unhealthy crap, as long as you don't do it during school hours"?
