Things to do in Belfast - My Favourite Belfast City Attractions that I recommend to all my visiting friends. Europa Hotel - 4 star and is known as the “Most bombed hotel in Europe and even the world” having suffered 36 bomb attacks during the troubles, it was such a symbol of Belfast and is today. It was opened in 1971 on the site of the former Great Northern Railway station. It has 272 bedrooms, lobby bar, a Piano Bar Lounge; great for tea and looking out at Belfast go by… Bill and Hillary Clinton stayed here and had a suite renamed the Clinton Suite!
Crown Liquor Saloon (opens 11.30 to midnight Monday to Saturday, 12.30-11 pm Sunday) AKA The Crown Bar - best-known pub in Northern Ireland - opened as “The Railway Tavern” and it was sold in 1885, renamed and refurbished in 1885 and only twice since then! Italian craftsmen were brought to Ireland to work on the many churches being built at the time and the pub owner persuaded these guys to work in the pub after hours (maybe paid in beer!)
Robinsons next door would also be very famous and is a large bar filled with Titanic memorabilia. It was opened in 1895 and has Fibber Magee’s with traditional music, lunch and more.
Golden Mile, stretches from Great Victoria Street, Dublin Road, Bradbury Place to University Road, includes the Crown Salon and Grand Opera House and would be a main area for clubs, bars, restaurants and theatres in Belfast. It would have been the main area back 20 years ago.
Queens University Part of the Queens Quarter of Belfast, which is one of 6 cultural areas. It opened in 1810, being granted university status in 1908. It is one of the largest employers in Northern Ireland and has a global reputation for research, attracting many international students. Famous alumni include former Irish President Mary McAleese, poet Seamus Heaney and actor Liam Neeson
Ulster Museum
Located in Botanic Gardens, it’s the largest museum in Northern Ireland, 8,000 sq meters of display from fine art especially Irish Art to archaeology to treasures from the Spanish Armada and walks through local history. A more recent addition was the Game of Thrones Tapestry, a temporary exhibition which was created from Linen from one of the last surviving linen mills in Northern Ireland. This dictates many of the famous scenes from the TV show and is a celebrate of the shows creation in Northern Ireland. ( • Ulster Museum Belfast;... )
Botanic Gardens - 28 acres opened in 1828, opened all year. It started as a private park and became public when the Belfast council purchased it in 1895. It has its own Palm House Conservatory which opened in 1840 and is one of the earliest cast iron glasshouses in the world. There are 2 wings, the cool wing and tropical wing and includes 400 year old plants! So anyone into plants will love this stop.
Belfast City Hall
Located in Donegall Square, opened in 1906 it stands on the site that was one the White Line Hall, an international Linen Exchange. The street from the back of the Hall is in what is called “the Linen Quarter” and the street name is “Linenhall Street”. ( • City Hall Belfast - A ... )
St Anne’s Cathedral or Belfast Cathedral is the Church of Ireland and was also completed in 1904. It was built on the grounds of an old parish church that existed since 1776 called “St Anne “. Originally only the nave of the cathedral was built with other sections added through the years. The “spire of hope” was added in 2007 which is a 40 metre steel spire. ( • St. Anne's Cathedral -... )
Brings you out to “Albert Clock” Completed in 1869 - another famous landmark of Belfast. It was built on wooden piles in Marshy reclaimed land around the River Farset, the top of the tower leans 4 feet to the side. ( • Albert Clock Belfast -... )
Walk through Queens Square to St. George’s Market, last covered Victorian market in Belfast. It was built between 1890 and 1896 and today up to 300 traders, crafters, musicians and amazing food are available on site. Free entry and open Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the weekend days the biggest. Holds events during the week.
SS Nomadic It was launched in 1911 and owned by White Star Line. It was a passenger ship to the RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic and is the only White Star Line vessel in existence today. It was built in slipway 1, Olympic was in slipway 2 and Titanic in slipway 3.
Titanic Belfast Opened in 2012 , a monument to Belfast maritime history on the former site of H&W shipyard where the Titanic was built. It tells the complete story of the Titanic which sunk hitting an iceberg in 1912. It has been voted one of the best tourist attractions in the world.

>My NOTE In The Bottle: To Ann that lived near the Boys school in Ban-gor. We met at Moloney's in Bangor on Sept 15, 1968. We danced until the club closed & I escorted you home & we sat in your living room for maybe 30 minutes & I had to return to my ship. Yes, I was in the US Navy. My name is Harvie. I made a date to meet you/Ann at the Train station in Belfast on 16 Sep, 1968. My ship departed & I was unable to keep my date. I have often thought of you & wondered what might have been. I now live in GA USA. Hp

We were with a CIE tour in 2018 and traveled to Belfast. Unfortunately, we were herded around and didn't get to see all the amazing sights you've showed us in your video. Now I want to go back and make sure we spend more time exploring on our own. You did an wonderful job showing us Belfast, it's history, wonderful places to see that aren't tourist traps, your information is interesting, and your presentation is very professional. Thank you for this truly great video!

That hotel has some amazing history. You can tell they have put a lot of time in remodeling the inside. Looks great. Same with the pub right after. I always love going to botanical gardens. Such beauty. The titanic museum looks amazing. I have a video up about the titanic cemetery here in Nova Scotia. After the titanic sunk, we were the closest big city to the wreck, so everyone was brought here. I didn't realize there was so much to do there. This really is the ultimate guide. Awesome job. Great travel video. So refreshing to see a real tour guide focusing on the destination instead of a pair of over the top millennials gushing about all the "amaaaaazing" places they've been with shots taken mostly of themselves for what amounts to one long selfie. I Love Belfast, it`s been like a second home to me. I spent best part of twenty years there and have been to many of the places shown. The Titanic Drawing offices were derelict, with the ceilings collapsing the last time I was there, that`s how long ago it was. The Crown is well worth a visit and as you said McQ`s does a fine pint of Guinness. Another good place for some Good home cooked food and a pint is The Morning Star. I have always wanted to go up one of those Great Cranes, when you used to walk down the bottom of the street where I stayed in East Belfast, they dominated the skyline. Belfast is a wonderful city with really warm friendly people and I Loved every second of my time there and look forward to going back soon 👍

@@ConnollyCove Hey! Thx for your nice note. Some recently discovered ancestry in Armagh, a round at royal portrush, and I'd like to stay for a stretch at a top new spot in belfast near the heart of activity. Some suggestions there would be great, and I'll for sure visit Titanic, ali5ng with a tour to the murals. That said, things have certainly changed in our collective landscape, but I'm still looking toward a late summer/early fall trip. I hope you and yours are making out ok during this time, and thank you again for reaching out.

@@ConnollyCove ah, where to begin! The Botanical Garden, the riverside area and the docks (I am interested in city / water interactions, as well as industrial and social history, though it is not my field of expertise); also, at the risk of sounding morbid, the political history and the art it inspired. :) I have this fantasy travel route that would combine Belfast with Northwestern England (Liverpool and Manchester). I am not sure whether the ferry service is the most practical way to go about it, but I would not mind the length at least.

If you want authentic Turkish Food (which is spicy and fresh); Go to Ventry Street in Belfast. There is a small restaurant there that is soooo good. Fast becoming an institution in Belfast: Turkey Street Food is so relaxed and calming. Most of all: delicious and the staff are friendly and unassuming.

I did the Black cab tour which was great. My daughter said this is because the Troubles is my favorite topic (and she is right) but I felt it was a great privilege to experience the Clonard chapel and the murals in these communities. Unfortunately there is still some concern over criminal activities in the Shankill area where shops are permanently closed because of extortion and threats of violence from the UVF and the UDA.

Hello, can I ask for opinion? I've been thinking to study in Belfast or Sheffield. Is Belfast a good city for studying? Which one is better?
@ConnollyCove
@ConnollyCove 5 жыл бұрын
Sadly have never been to Sheffield ( yet ) But Belfast is a small city - handy to walk from place to place which is great. The city is being transformed now for students - incredible new accommodation right in the city itself! Really worth coming to see and get a feel for it. Easily then to travel around and explore Ireland. I might be bias - but would definitely recommend here for the friendliness and history - plus the current transformation....amazing times! Any questions - do let us know :-) Good luck with the tough choice!

This is probably the best travelogue video on Belfast, although ONLY in terms of how many places of interest are shown. Unfortunately the narrative - for all its content - is appalling, There is such a thing as a word being used too much; in this 30-minute video the word "actually" was used no less than 81 times!! I know, because I counted them! Some of the information is incorrect, such as Victoria Square which dates a great many years before the date given; and such as the "Goliath" crane which I remember in 1967! "Nomadic" was a TENDER to "Titanic" not a passenger ship. The lady states that "an iceberg hit 'Titanic'," so that's a new one on me! Holywood was visited by King John in the 11th century, and is therefore is believed to be older than Carrickfergus by several hundred years! On that basis, Carrick' could not be "one of the oldest towns!" Looking at the text, anyone with a reasonably good education might be justified in thinking that it was written by an inattentive 10-year-old schoolchild, for the grammar and syntax would never be acceptable in any school of worth. It was obviously never scrutinised for errors, and never proofed prior to publication. I challenge anyone to read it and prove me wrong. Having said all that, I do hope that Cove Connolly produces more videos with equally as good content as this, but with much, much better and more accurate narration.

@@dmck7347 I have a very good life, and much of it spent trying to educate the morons (perhaps like yourself) who can't put put more than a few words together without spelling and grammar mistakes, but are still capable of passing false information in a home-made video; and there is no word in the English Language that qualifies for use 81 times in thirty minutes. There is nothing like a good education D McK; give it a try, as it's amazing the benefits it can bring!

@@TheBriceKennedy You label me "professor," yet stand to correct me, so that must make you a professor in extremis. It's rather curious though, that you don't point to an example of where my structure was wrong. Might I suggest that if you're going to make a point, be specific - just as I did! Since you imagine you must be some kind of expert in English Grammar, you really should know when and where to place your diacritical marks. Beyond these comments you presume too much, for I have no wish to "talk" with you!
