Though it's a fun place to visit, here are a few tips. I lived there for 35 years. Even in the summer it can be cool at night, so be sure to bring a sweater or other outer layer. The ocean water is best in August when it can get up to 70 degrees. But generally it's much cooler. However surfing or water boarding keep you out of the water some.. Usually you you can get used to the coolness of the water. Buy some turpentine while there. Sometimes there will be tarry oil deposits along the water's edge that can get on your feet. Turpentine will take it off. Just be sure to wash your feet after. There are many music productions from its orchestra, Choral groups, summer time visit the Music Academy of the West. And the Santa Barbara Bowl will bring top artists from various genres. There is also a Natural History Museum that will delight the whole family. While there, pick up a book about various hiking trails at the gift shop.

Our taxes in Santa Barbara help to house the homeless and provide necessities. We also have many organizations that help people in need. You will still see people looking for a handout but encampments are mostly a thing of the past as of 11/11/24.
