Whether you arrive in Progreso on a cruise ship or make a stop here while exploring Yucatan Peninsula, this is an amazing destination with lots of great natural attractions.
We go swimming in beautiful cenotes, witness flocks of flamingos, check out Yucatan's pink lakes, and end the day by exploring ancient Mayan ruins!

Yeah next time I am going to try and record drone footage like that at a higher frame rate to be able to slow it down even more.

Yeah the salt lakes were pretty cool. The ones we went to are only there to help educate visitors. They actually turn pink when blue-green algae dies.

Beautiful content, especially the drone shots. Mexico is great isn't it? We stayed for about 6 months on the Yucatan peninsula and enjoyed the freshness of the cenotes pretty often.

Yeah definitely need to check it out. Yeah as I mentioned above to someone else, the water and therefore the salt turns pink because of the bleaching effect of the dead blue green algae. Weird but I guess people pay a premium for it.

What are those adorable fox-like creatures at the cenote? Some relative to the racoon?
@Drinkteatravel
@Drinkteatravel 7 жыл бұрын
In Costa Rica they are called Pizote, but I believe in English they call them Coati. They can pretty much be found from Mexico all the way down to South America. The furthest south we have personally seen them was at Iguazu falls. We captured heaps of them on our video on the Falls.

I was attacked (unprovoked) by a coatimundi. It lunged at me and I hit with a two by four across the snout and then it attacked me again. Next time the whack knocked him out. They are bigger than a raccoon and can be mean as 'H'.

We did arrive in Progreso on a cruise ship but we organized our own tour when we got off the boat. It was both cheaper and funner cause we did things we wanted to do!

I couldn't tell you exactly, but instead of going on one of the tours provided by the cruise ship. we decided to head to some local shops and go on a tour with them. We would suggest the same if you get a chance, it was a lot cheaper and you are going direct to the supplier.

Hi Luis. We just got off the boat, went to the Main Street (a lot of people come here for some Mexican food and coronas). We then just asked a few of the vendors for a custom tour. Told him what time we needed to be back for departure and off we went. It was 1/3 of the price of booking through the cruise ship

Where were those flamingos santuarios? I know there are some in Progresso but can’t remember location. The other location is Celestun but I hear from locals that it’s very touristy
@Edvectus
@Edvectus 5 жыл бұрын
The Celestun Biosphere Reserve is their favourite breeding ground, and Ria Lagartos is great for nesting. The best time to observe large populations of these pink birds is from December to April in Ria Lagartos Reserve, where they lay eggs and take care of chicks while they are too small to be left alone. You can learn more about them here, grat article: rove.me/to/mexico/flamingos
