Correction when they went to "downtown York" it wasnt acusly downtown. It's called shortsands and it's a really fun place to go to. Downtown York is near york harbor beach with village scoope ice cream

There's York Village, Long Sands Beach and Short Sands Beach. Your first "walk" was at Short Sands, which has shops on either side of some of the streets. Long Sands Beach is on the ocean so basically there are only shops/restaurants on one side and not as inviting for browsing. York Village is a short distance from the coast and basically just a "pass through" to get down to the York beaches, etc. Water is ALWAYS cold even in the hottest month(s). And having clam "strips" is only half the clam...gotta have the whole clam, including the "belly" for the ultimate! And overall, there's NO better seafood than Maine. Too bad you don't like it. BTW, I lived 10 minutes from Nubble Light for 9 years...LOVED it!

My wife and I got married in York, rented a beach house on Long Sands beach, and had the family stay with us for 4 days....a "family-moon." It is both our 2nd marriage with grown children, siblings and we all enjoyed it so much. The beach at low tide just opens up with so much room.

Those mansions that they built near the lighthouse haven't always been there. My mother sister and I would vacation with our great aunts in York ME and stay at these cute little red cottages that were built right above the rocks on the shore north of the lighthouse. I'd do anything to visit them again, but some rich assholes had to demo them for some arrogant monstrosity of a house!

@@ALISHAJPOOLE it is a wonderful memory for me. My great aunts would vacation there for over 20 years in the same cottage! They knew the year rounders who fished off the cliff, knew who owned the lighthouse and everything. One time my mother and sis LEFT me at the beach when I was probably 13 and I had to walk ALL the way back to the cottages! Because I wanted to keep boogie boarding.
