The first bride was an entitled brat expecting her mom and future MIL to pay $10,000 for her wedding dress. I am glad both of them didn't give in but instead told her no. If you want a $10,000 wedding dress, get a job and pay for the wedding dress yourself.

The bride should have discussed the budget with her mother. She should have been willing to pay the difference for her full budget. Not all dresses need to be really expensive. Kleinfelds carries upper price dresses.

I fell in love with the very first dress I tried on. My mom said I couldn’t get it without looking at dresses in other places first. We looked in other places and nothing compared to MY dress. I still get that thrill 33 years later looking at it. You keep that excitement in your heart. 🥰

I walk into my first bridle salon, waiting on my appointment and walk over to a rack of gowns 30’ away and found my gown. I really never looked at the bridle magazines, and was never one to “dream about my wedding since the first grade” either. I always knew that my gown would be shown to me. I picked out my bridesmaids dresses quick too, and they weren’t with me! That wouldn’t fly these days..😂

I think wedding shows and magazines have created too much emphasis on the dress so they can charge a premium for them. Like the jewelry industry does with the engagement ring. And the first time I was in a wedding, the bridal party's dresses came from Kmart.

No, my former friend did everything you said. She got her wedding dress on sale, her cake cutting gown and all of our bridesmaids dresses for wholesale price. She had her Chinese and Vietnamese one custom made for good prices too.

I like *SOME* Pnina dresses. But I do have over-the-top, extravagant taste. With that said, I am not a fan of the see-through bodice. I don't really understand why that's popular. It looks more boudoir than bridal. And not in a good way. That's just my opinion though.

The 1st. bride, surely to goodness, she discussed how much her mother was willing to pay for her dress? However, trying to embarrass her mother into paying more for her dress is disgraceful. To then say others will chip in for the dress without asking them first is incredibly rude and delusional. As the bride was unwilling to help pay towards her own dress, then why should anyone else! I do not think future mother-law was impressed by the brides selfish antics.

@@robynmurray7421 or it's traditional for the bride's family to pay? technically the tradition is the bride's family pays for the entire wedding, replacing the tradition of a dowry, but lately the bride's family just pays for the dress since that's the most expensive part.

My mom surpised me saying that she will buy me a dress, but after she told me her budget i not only was cerefoul to not to go over It and make her sure i will pay the difference if the dress was over her budget. How is that hard? This woman should be greatfull for giving her even a small procent of the money it's her dress, not her mom. Also, i kind off fell in love in a first dress, but i found It on the internet so i make sure they have It on a store, and still Made a few appoitments in other stores just in case. And after i fit the first dress It just make me sure It was the one.

Don’t bring too many people to your appointment and stick to your budget. If you’re not paying for the dress, respect the person who’s paying for it budget. The first dress that they showed it was overrated because it’s been seen over and over.

My best advice for dress shopping: If you’re not close with your mother and/or she’s not paying… DONT BRING HER! Especially if you think it’ll magically change the relationship. It ruined my entire appointment for me. I still left in the dress of my dreams but she didn’t like it, she wanted me to get a different dress, she started crying while I was in the dressing room because I was “taking to long and leaving her out” leading to my dad calling me to scream at me…. Just got alone or with a close friend. ITS NOT WORTH IT. Even if it is the “traditional thing” to do

Being close is one thing but do you have the same taste? My late mom and I were close but she was extremely picky and has different tastes than me. She always criticized me for even my regular clothes. But sadly, my mom has passed and I can’t bring her even if I wanted to. However, I would not strain our relationship and bond over a one time dress as my bond with my mom is way more important than a one time wedding dress. The dress should not even be that important and most people don’t even care what the brides wear.

She always tried to force this closeness and she guilted me into letting her come wedding dress shopping with me even though I wanted to do it by myself or with a close friend. Because “it’s a mother’s place to go wedding dress shopping with her daughter”…. She also kept trying to cause issues with my maid of honor because I decided to plan the wedding completely by myself and I didn’t ask for anybody’s help because nobody else was paying for it so I didn’t want anyone’s opinion. My mother kept telling my father and manipulating him into thinking I wasn’t making my own decisions and it was all my made of honor. “We were trying to leave her out.” At the appointment she pointed out that the dress gave me underarm fat, that it didn’t look good on me, and I probably didn’t have the right body type for it. meanwhile it was a size 6 (I’m like a size 8) it was a ballgown, and it barely showed any skin or shape at all so to say that it wasn’t good for my body type, shocked me. she also kept reminding me that on her wedding day she was a size 4… She’s a size 24 now. Completely unnecessary. She then insisted on coming to every fitting with me where she also kept making comments. She even showed up to a fitting. She wasn’t invited to just to make comments. She didn’t pay for it, she didn’t offer to pay for it, she ruined the whole experience for me.

If she did not like it, she would make me return it. It was a nightmare. I truly wonder if I would dare to bring my mom even if she were still here as she is extremely critical of what I wear. I hope you get past it as the wedding dress should not be that important. My sister in law rented hers for a few hundred and then returned it. Now over 22 years later, she does not even remember it anymore. She said it is not that important. My late mom used to criticize my looks and all too. I guess it is just a mom thing. She puts me down if anyone compliments me too. I don’t know if she is trying to be humble or not. But her words were hurtful so I know how you feel. I hope your relationship with her gets better while she is still around.
